Hi,

for me, calculate the differentiate between bank and visa rate, then divide by visa rate.

example

amount: SGD 39.71

amount charged: RM 114.79

114.79 /39.71 = 2.8907 <<<< bank rate

bank rate: 2.8907 posted date: 09-Jul-2015

visa rate: 2.827021 <<<< go check visa currency rate on posted date 09-Jul-2015

fee: 2.252% <<<< (2.8907 - 2.827021 / 2.827021)

pls correct me if im wrong rolleyes.gif

Please forgive me that I'm not using the prescribed format and did not compare to Oanda or Visa official rates. I recently traveled to Europe for 2 weeks and used quite a number of credit cards. When I compare the actual rate for the different cards on the same transaction date, this is the ranking I got:

In the order of best rates to worst rates:
1. Public Visa Infinite
2. HSBC Visa Signature
3. Maybank Visa Infinite
4. Citibank Premiermiles Visa Signature
5. Maybank Amex Reserve

The variance between 1. and 2. is almost 1% while 2&3 is very close to each other, 4. is rather close to 5

i've purposely used both MBB 2 premier amex & visa in gallery lafayette last week. Both transaction in same date and same posting date.

Maybank Visa Infinite
transaction date: 22/07/15
posted date: 23/07/15
amount: EU 108.42
amount charged: MYR 463.55
bank rate: 4.2755
visa rate: 4.1793
fee: 2.30%

Maybank Amex Reserve
transaction date: 22/07/15
posted date: 23/07/15
amount: EU 245.00
amount charged: MYR 1046.52
bank rate: 4.2715
oanda rate: 4.1447
fee: 3.05%

from here u see the amex reserve charge higher fee at 3.05%. visa infinite just 2.30%
but the amex bank rate is lower at 4.2715 , compare to visa bank rate 4.2755
at the end u get cheaper by using amex, even with higher bank fee.
suspect because of oanda rate is too low...

good day guys, so i was preparing for US working trip soon and found out about this foreign transaction charges and got myself a bit mindfk biggrin.gif

please enlighten me as MYR - US is pretty bad currently.

i got to know from MBB customer service, my amex/visa admin charges are 2.5 and 2.25% respectively.
then OCBC 1%

but when i read thru the pages here, i noticed that most of the ppl use MBB ? is there something i don't see here?

i just have below card, so if you can help me decide which one to use and which one prepare for emergency only smile.gif thank you!
1. OCBC (Master and Visa)
2. MBB (Visa and Amex)
