Does this mean that AEON Visa is the best card for foreign currency transaction considering conversion rate + admin fee as well as rebates, points etc?

if you want instant rebate and best exchange rate - Aeon Watami but pls note 3% rebate only kick in if you spend more than 3k within 3 months. My gf also told me that during her trip to Japan in some shop she also get 5% additional discount for using Visa card.
If you consider points then it is a complicated case, like bro Gen-X mentioned if you have premium cards like Alliance Visa Infinite / Maybank Visa Infinite that offer 5X points for oversea spending then that is absolute value to redeem business class flight ticket the effective cash back in form of air ticket is even higher in value but if you don't need this and look purely on rebate and good exchange rate, go ahead with Aeon. |

Actually I kind of completed an article on overseas spending but need some touching up and it shall be my first article for 2014. In this article I thanked you, ronnie and persona for the very beneficial info posted/shared.If you consider points then it is a complicated case, like bro Gen-X mentioned if you have premium cards like Alliance Visa Infinite / Maybank Visa Infinite that offer 5X points for oversea spending then that is absolute value to redeem business class flight ticket the effective cash back in form of air ticket is even higher in value but if you don't need this and look purely on rebate and good exchange rate, go ahead with Aeon. QUOTE(parsona @ Dec 4 2013, 04:37 PM) parsona, in my article I have however revised the info you shared as follows (i.e. divide by Visa Rate and Spot Rate and not effective rate so that the base is the same):Citibank Premiermiles Visa 30/11/2013 RM 53.02 1640 yen effective rate: 0.032329, 2.117% over visa, 2.7483% over spot Maybankard 2 Amex 30/11/13 RM 116.23 3591 yen effective rate: 0.032367, 2.869% over spot This post has been edited by Gen-X: Jan 2 2014, 10:37 AM |

Even you calculation for Effective rate is wrong... 61.42/20 = 3.071 (why extra 0.0005 appears ?) This post has been edited by ronnie: Jan 2 2014, 07:43 AM |

QUOTE(ronnie @ Jan 2 2014, 07:40 AM) Visa's website shows Bro, yes it is very odd. But if you refer to bear bear earlier postings, he got conversion rates less than Visa's for his JPY transactions too and maybe NZD also. Same case for parsona transactions. The rate shown is effective for transactions submitted to Visa on December 27, 2013, with a bank foreign transaction fee of 0%. 1 United States Dollar = 3.300443 Malaysian Ringgit Unless AEON did a boo-boo, you are one lucky dude. Edited: I just published an article on overseas transactions comparing my Maybank Visa Infinite vs Alliance Bank VI vs UOB VI. From my findings, my Visa Infinite conversion rates are like more than 3% above Visa's rate and that would make it above 4% over the spot rate. But with the 5X reward points, I get like 2% cash back with the MBB VI and ABB VI but not the case for the UOB VI. The article also includes a sample calculation as how to determine one's credit card overseas conversion fee over Visa's. And I also included overseas transactions shared by ronnie, bear bear and parsona with their RHB Visa Signature, AEON Gold and AEON Watami respectively. And those of you who do no visit the Foreign Exchange Rate Thread will be shocked to see AEON cards exchange rate.
