Hi Guys
Just back from US few days ago below are my MBB Master and Amex transactions

Posting date Trans Date Amount
(MC)
23/9 21/9 USD 59.31 190.42
23/9 21/9 USD345.86 1110.35
(Amex)
24/9 22/9 USD28 90.96
29/9 27/9 USD255.18 843.13

After rough calculation, Additional charge for MBB MC and AMEX is about the same. So MBB MC no longer so call lowest Bank charges cc

What is KRW? RHB Visa Signature 2% better than the 2.5% stated in my MBB Visa Infinite T&C (but as I posted earlier, MBB charged me about 2.25%)

Yah, good question. I would like to know he used MasterCard or Visa. Most of us know from previous postings Alliance Visa rate higher than Alliance MC.

Nowadays if we use Visa we are like paying 3% or more than spot rate. Visa's rate add about 1% and then add our bank's fee of 2%

I just check AUD/MYR conversion rate for Visa and MC using the links in post#1 for 4 October 2013

Visa: 3.036173 >>>> MasterCard: 2.98787!!!!

Visa is about 1% higher than MC. No wonder Visa cards can offer up to 1% cash back for overseas transactions.

The next time I am overseas, I must go use my DA WMC and MBB VI on the same day as see the diff.

Sorry...its Mastercard!! Which is why i am very surprised because i read Gen-x comment that rate should be quite reasonable for Alliance MC.

The rate at mastercard website is NZD1 to MYR 2.67, they are charging me MYR 2.77!!

I called the CS and he couldn't explain as well and told me they have no clue, insisted them to gv me an explanation only he is willing to file an investigation.

Some rates for comparison on Alliance MC

1/10/2013
MC rate: 1USD to 3.258MYR
Transaction amount: USD14.55
Amount charged: MYR48.37
Effective rate: 3.324
Additional Charge: 2%

2/10/2013
MC rate: 1USD to 3.2375MYR
Transaction amount: USD18.72
Amount charged: MYR61.83
Effective rate: 3.303
Additional Charge: 2%

MC rate: 1USD to 3.2375MYR
Transaction amount: USD29.16
Amount charged: MYR96.32
Effective rate: 3.303
Additional Charge: 2%

MC rate: 1NZD to 2.6764MYR
Transaction amount: NZD306
Amount charged: MYR848.23
Effective rate: 2.772
Additional Charge: 3.57%

KRW = Korean WON
Currently RHB Visa Signature offers 5% Cash back for overseas transactions.
So far all my CC swipes in Seoul has been lower than Moneymaster's KRW cash rate doh.gif doh.gif

Bro, well, with 2% using MC it makes me feel that my MBB 2 VI rate not so bad, hahaha.

And Bro, next time you overseas use MBB 2 AMEX for one or two transactions on the same day with your other VISA/MC to compare. I will try to do the same next trip overseas.

You are one lucky fellow smile.gif Sep 20-21, SG rate was at lowest for that month.

And I thank you for sharing. From above, the conversion rate for the swipes almost same for all the cards. But the odd thing is the refund OCBC TMC gave you much much more than MBB. Too bad you are smart not to use a single Visa card and as such we cannot see the diff, haha

I am assuming your posting date is 10th Oct

Your transaction conversion USD/MYR = 3.261905

If you check MC rate for 10 Oct 2013 (post#1), USD1 = 3.2085
and for Visa (for comparison) USD1 = 3.215

Therefore your OCBC fee about 1.66% on top of MC's rate. Not too bad compared to my Visa 2+%.

I checked for 9/10 - 10/10, hourly chart the rate between 3.196 to 3.2096 (if use Bloomberg 1 mth chart, 10/10 rate is 3.19)

So if spot rate was 3.19, MC charges 0.57% thumbup.gif vs Visa's about 0.78%

But to be frank, I am still blur if we should adopt our Posting Date same as Visa and MasterCard Currency Convertor Tool Date because US is like 12 hours behind. So maybe we should also check MC/Visa rate one day behind. And if you check for 9/10/2013 MC rate 3.21 >>> Visa rate 3.189!!??? Go figure.....
