It has now become clear that BigPay and TnG Visa have declined from the best to the worst, time to let them go?

any idea among credit card, debit card and prepaid card, which give the best exchange rate ?
*
Credit Card- OCBC 365 Mastercard
Debit Card- Standard Chartered Jumpstart Mastercard/RHB Multi Currency Visa
Prepaid Card- Wise Visa

Among all these, my absolute favourite is SCB Jumpstart as it has absolutely zero markup from Mastercard rate and free withdrawal for foreign cash outside of Malaysia. I find this to give the best rate.

RHB Multi Currency is good too, better rate than even Wise. It is just that you need to convert MYR to foreign currency beforehand to make it worthwhile. Transactions in 16 foreign currencies have zero fees, but if you have insufficient balance in foreign currencies, it will deduct Ringgit balance and attract 1% fee.

SCB Jumpstart no need to convert anything, zero fee, it will deduct the ringgit balance at the exact mastercard exchange rate at that time.

Generally, is the overseas spend points reward worth the 1-2% fee charged by credit cards? Or better to exchange foreign currency before i go overseas?

Currently using SC Visa Platinum and Maybank Shopee CC.

Hi recently I got my AMEX plat KF from Maybank.
i tried to buy something from e-commerce in Indonesia.

my purchase is Rp3107905 which is when I converted real time using XE apps was RM919.94.
But after purchase i check on my card transaction, it just take RM917.41. Which is cheaper than in XE apps.
Check it by calculate card balance before and after purchase.

Do it miss something about foreign transaction fees as what I read AMEX will take 2.5% fees.

A bonus feature of the RHB Multi Currency is attractive interest rates on forex balances, similar to fixed deposits, motivating you to convert currencies.

Paid RM 3991.68 (In Ringgit-MYR) at Hotels.com Malaysia.
Charged RM 4031.60 by Touch N Go Visa Prepaid - (inclusive of 1% cross border payment fee - even when the currency is in MYR Ringgit)

Is this an error by Touch N Go Prepaid Visa?

not cross-border fee. it's forex markup imposed by tng visa

also, it depends on where the merchant is registered.

what is the full description of hotels.com?

Here is my card usage during my europe trip recently
9/5 TNG 1 euro to RM 5.0127
BigPay 1 euro to RM 4.9640
PBB VS 1 euro to RM 4.9871
MBB KF 1 euro to RM 4.9938

10/5 TNG 1 euro to RM 5.0016
BigPay 1 Euro to RM 4.9527

11/5 BigPay 1 euro to RM4.9589
TNG 1 euro to RM5.0113
Citi CB 1 euro to RM 4.9106

12/5 MBB KF 1 euro to RM 5.0007
TNG 1 euro to RM 5.0145

19/5 Aeon Big 1 CHF to RM5.1304
Ambank VS 1 CHF to RM5.1179

interestingly
18/5 MBB Amex 1CHF to RM 5.1807
MBB KF 1CHF to RM 5.1471

conclusion, really can throw TNG debit card away liao. bigpay also not offer competitive rate anymore. some cards with miles or cash back is better than bigpay. citi CB rate is quite low, quite suprise. and mbb amex got 2 diff rate...

RHB MCA didn't work well for me in Indonesia. I have converted to IDR in my MCA account, but when I used the debit card in Indonesia, it still deduct from my savings account. My MC Debit link both Savings and MCA.

The Visa debit card only support transaction in the following 16 currencies. IDR not in the list.

I mainly use RHB MCA for savings. And SCB JumpStart for all purpose general transactions overseas.

You can convert 24 currencies inside MCA account. But only 16 currencies are usable with the visa debit card.

The balance 8 currencies only exist inside the account (and get interest) or if you wanna TT out. Not usable with the debit card.
