Touch N Go Prepaid Visa, GBP 1 = RM 5.3336
Big Pay prepaid card, GBP 1 = RM 5.36972

It looks like the Touch N Go Prepaid Visa card has more competitive exchange rate than the Big Pay card. However, the Touch N Go may not have updated its system to charge foreign exchange fee yet.

Have you factored in 2% bank fee?

I suspected TnG will charge 2% later in your statement upon settlement later in 2 days

Just use pbb vs at a japanese website

Transaction date 5 jan
Posted date 9 jan
Transaction amount 24600 jpy

Pbb charged rm848.68
Visa website rm836.03

Therefore bank fee is 1.5%

I thought pbb charged 1.25%?

Hi, wondering if you used the Visa Exchange Rate on the Transaction or Posting Date? I believe that the banks normally confirm the Exchange Rate on Posting Date - that's when the merchants actually claim funds from the card issuing banks.

If use the Visa Exchange Rate on the Posting Date 9th January
24600 JPY = 821.427363 MYR

Public Bank charged RM 848.68

This suggests a total fee of 3.32% unfortunately

Comparing several cards. It is surprising that the Maybank Visa Infinite's fee is even higher than the Maybank AMEX. I could not find the official exchange rate for AMEX but one would normally expect it to be less competitive than Visa International.

The Touch N Go Visa has 0% fee as of now.

The CIMB World Travel Elite is advertised as having 0% foreign exchange fee but there is still a de facto 0.94% charge.

*Note that Visa/Mastercard Exchange Rate on the Posting Date was used. Meanwhile, the Exchange Rate on 21th and 22th January was the same due to weekend.

Visa charge at Yen 34.65, amex 34.14 , 22th January transaction

After reading honsiong's post on 25/2/2023, I applied for the TnG Visa card and immediately proceeded to test the forex rates with my other cards. To do this, I topped up one of my online services with USD1 using each of the cards. The resulting list shows the final amounts in MYR.

CODE
TnG Visa                    RM 4.44
BigPay Visa                 RM 4.47
RHB Multi Currency Visa     RM 4.45
Wise Visa                   RM 4.46
Hong Leong Pay&Save Visa    RM 4.47
HSBC Everyday Global Visa   RM 4.53

It looks like TnG Visa has come out on top with the best exchange rate for now!

Out of the three cards you have, BigPay should offer the best rates. And please keep in mind never withdraw cash from your credit card.

Thanks for your advice senpai. Since i might need some cash, is it better to withdraw cash from Bigpay as well? I have debit card from ambank (and maybank too).
