I'm in the same boat like you and just got the Bank Rakyat Platinum mastercard for my recent overseas trip. With the 0% markup on all overseas transactions it's really worth it. It's mastercard so it's accepted worldwide.  rclxms.gif

Wow sounds like a good deal! Thanks SamD, is this the card which you’re referring to?
https://ringgitplus.com/en/credit-card/Bank...#ReadMoreReview

By the way, is it due to they’re having some kind of promotion now?

Thank you notworthy.gif

Yes, it's the Platinum Mastercard you referred to from RinggitPlus link. However, I applied directly to the branch.

The 0% markup on all overseas transactions is not a promotion, but it's one of the card features according to Bank Rakyat's website.

going to overseas soon, may I know which cards should I use
1. Public visa signature
2. Citi premiermiles (new member, got promotion spend rm5k to get back rm500)
3. Maybank(amex,fcb VS, mastercard)

I check from previous thread, PBB vs is 1.25% and Citibank is 1.4%?

I think still better to choose the foreign currency rather than RM.

Your bank rate of 3.901955 is not correct. It should be 3661.54/936.48 = 3.90989 (or 3.9099 if you round to 4 decimal places).

This would match back with the Mastercard rate @ 0% as at the posting date (not transaction date) of 3.9099.

End result is still same, BankRakyat Platinum Mastercard does not charge any forex fees. rclxms.gif

Thanks Bro for pointing out the mistake in my calculation. Nevertheless, as you noted the end result is the same and most importantly BankRakyat has no markup on forex, couldn't be happier thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

I tested. PBB VS win
PBB = 1.25%
Citibank = 1% + (1.4-1.6%)

So if can avoid citibank at all cost

Easy, just tick the first option for all. In simple terms, the credit facility they provide to you is tied to a fixed amount of commodity value, hence your liability is limited vs conventional credit card where it's not. BankRakyat follows the Islamic principle, the officer should explain this to you better. In regards to credit limit, you can state your preference but it's all up to the bank's credit assessment. They will then assign you the suitable credit limit. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Would like to know how can you see the visa exchange rate..when i go to visa website need to input bank fee..if using Hongleong..it is 1%?

need someone help me on calculation..

Transaction Type Hongleong debit visa
Transaction Date 31/3/2018
Transaction amount USD 45.47
Amount charged RM 183.33

so 183.33/45.47 : 4.031..so high?

another 1..
transaction type :paypal using hongleong debit visa
transaction date 30/3/18
transaction amount: 1.40usd
amount charged :myr 5.54

so 5.54/1.40 :3.957

are my calculation correct?

hard to say. forex varies from time to time. you may purchase at expensive rate at money changer before you travel, and forex drop when u sign with CC.... haha.... if you are looking for lowest charges for spending overseas, AmB WMC would be best, no forex charge, only admin fee... and RM1 earns 1airmile points (asiamile, enrich, krisflyer)

5% is limited to RM50 only (which means max spending RM1000 for 5%CB).

you would need to look at posting date. 1% is bank admin fee, there is another forex charge. you can put 0% to get the exact VISA charge rate, then figure out forex charge %

okay..for example

transaction type :paypal using hongleong debit visa
transaction date 30/3/18
posted date 30/3/18
visa rate @0% : 3.871113
transaction amount: 1.40usd
amount charged :myr 5.54

5.54/1.40 = 3.95714

3.95714 - 3.871113 = 0.0860/3.95714 x 100 = 2.174% charge.

i thought maximum would be 2%?..1 % bank + 1% visa charge?
