Going to China soon. Just wonder money changer change the CNY better or use Maybank Visa there?

isn't everyone using e-wallet in China ? do you have MBB 2 cards ?

my colleague went to china, planning to use alipay too. but china only recognized credit cards which were issued by banks in china. so he still need to use cash at the end. i am not sure whats the reason of this failure, which could be due to didnt inform bank here about his overseas trip or its real that only cards from china is recognized when using alipay in china.

I managed to use Wechat Wallet and AliPay back in 2016, sorry I didn't visit China last year. Not sure now.

Cannot bind AmEx.

Just charged 100usd to my maybank visa cc today, I'm trying to understand how maybank calculate the 2.5% forex charge. Based on the table in the link, which usd rate does maybank take to calculate?

It's based on the rate on Visa's website as at the posting date. For Visa, Maybank would add 2.26% I think (not 2.5%).

I'm wondering if the bank publishes their charge rates instead of us trying to do the math ourselves? 1%, 1.25%, etc.

usually is 1% + 1.5%, and it is step-by-step charges: admin fee + forex charge, so it will be total 2.515%

some banks will clearly indicate in their T&C on forex rate, like MBB, but some bank you can call them to get exact rate.

most of the time cash is cheaper. but there is chances you changed your cash at higher rate, and forex is cheaper when you are travelling. so, hard to say.

VISA and MASTERCARD has their own website to check. check with the posting date. so far, I still don't know where to find AMEX link.

Just to confirm the exchange rate is follow posting rate right?

I compared both my Maybank2kard AMEX and Maybank Visa Signature used in USD & KRW, it seems AMEX exchange is even lower.

That is exactly what I found too. Used my Maybank FCB VISA Signature and MBB2 AMEX a few times in Japan last month and I found the final posted rate for Maybank FCB VISA Signature is higher than MBB2 AMEX.

Then again I had used the Maybank FCV VISA Signature in Hong Kong in December last year and the exchange rate for HKD for this card was still ok. Not the best but definitely very competitive.
