thanks..

i need some help here.
below are the detail
Trans date:3rd July- exchange rate (without admin fee) is 0.038099
posting date:6th july- exchange rate( without admin fee) is 0.037979
swipe Amount is 7410 Yen. Actual billed amount in RM is 284.37

Taking the posting date exchange rate + 1% admin fee AMbank CC:- RM286.34, which is more than the billed amount of RM284.37

so, did i make mistake on the calculation?
if not, then the admin fee is probably less than 1 %.
pls help.. thanks ya.

50% of my credit card transactions are in Euro and 30% in JPY.

My experience so far is that roughly 60% of the times maybank amex reserve is lower than maybank visa infinite, I'm not sure why though...

I'm currently applying for a Ambank WMC which would be useful for non online transactions outside of Malaysia (almost the same amount of miles as maybank 2 premier but lower exchange rate)...

Even with the exchange fee, it's still a better deal to use my malaysia cc than a credit card in euros considering the amount of miles I get.

what do you mean by lower? how much lower comparing % to %? blink.gif

just to confirm, is your card WMC?

I don't know where you get the exchange rate.... but from my checking, it is RM284.24 at 6/7 transaction date

for transaction exchange rate for mastercard: https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html

The visa infinite is often around 2.5% higher than the exchange rate I can see on xe and the Amex is often around 2.2% higher than the exchange rate from xe.com...

There's variance, but from what I can see, usually amex tends to have a slightly lower surcharge when paying in Euros.

for VISA, please use https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/trave...alculator.html/

for MASTERCARD, please use https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html

VISA and MASTERCARD uses their own rate, which usually slightly differs from xe.com.

xe.com is just general exchange rate for everyone to refer, but won't be the final reference rate. final reference rate shall refer to banks or money exchanger.

btw, weird that your VI rate is higher than AMEX rate.. others reported here looks like the other way round of your rate... hahaha..... blink.gif

Seriously? Not taking effort to read through eh?

There is a list in between the discussion updated from time to time..... Why not take some effort to view through?

Noob Question.

Did a transaction last week, on a world master card.

Using https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html

IF I set the bank fees to 1.9%, it will match the cost of item and what is shown on my statement.

Does this already include the 1% foreign exchange charge by mastercard?
So it is 1% + 0.9% bank charge?

Seems decent enough? (Not as good as ambank WMC i know)

i think we take the
online mastercard rate+ bank charges= amount shown in statement.
in your case, the bank charges is 1.9%.

Pls correct me if i'm wrong.

So bank charge 1.9%
Mastercard 1% (already built into the exchange rate)?
Effective 2.9%?

Like that quite high....
I'm trying to convince myself to use this card overseas.. As compared to using local card.
Weighing the value of the points this card as it gives decent miles for overseas spending.

hmmm
i made a transaction on 19 July for USD $ 50.39 on aliexpress using CIMB CR MC
today i check cimb clicks -> 21-Jul-2017 19-Jul-2017 WWW.ALIEXPRESS.COM LONDON GB RM220.27

21 july is the posting date
19 july is the transaction date

https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html
using the above website

for transaction date of july 19, bank fee of 2% USD50.39 = RM220.27 (exact amount charged to my cc)

if i use July 21 posting date,
bank fee of 2% amounts to RM220.50
bank fee of 1.89% amounts to RM220.26
bank fee of 1.90% amounts to RM220.28
cant get the exact amount of 220.27

did i get the calculations right?
so the calculation should be based on the posting or transaction date?

edit : typo

i think over here, we take all charges as bank charges. No extra charges from Mastercard.
i could be wrong.

ambank world mastercard is another card you can consider. 1% admin charge is considered one of the lowest.
