thanks..

i need some help here.
below are the detail
Trans date:3rd July- exchange rate (without admin fee) is 0.038099
posting date:6th july- exchange rate( without admin fee) is 0.037979
swipe Amount is 7410 Yen. Actual billed amount in RM is 284.37

Taking the posting date exchange rate + 1% admin fee AMbank CC:- RM286.34, which is more than the billed amount of RM284.37

so, did i make mistake on the calculation?
if not, then the admin fee is probably less than 1 %.
pls help.. thanks ya.

just to confirm, is your card WMC?

I don't know where you get the exchange rate.... but from my checking, it is RM284.24 at 6/7 transaction date

for transaction exchange rate for mastercard: https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html

Noob Question.

Did a transaction last week, on a world master card.

Using https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html

IF I set the bank fees to 1.9%, it will match the cost of item and what is shown on my statement.

Does this already include the 1% foreign exchange charge by mastercard?
So it is 1% + 0.9% bank charge?

Seems decent enough? (Not as good as ambank WMC i know)
*
i think we take the
online mastercard rate+ bank charges= amount shown in statement.
in your case, the bank charges is 1.9%.

Pls correct me if i'm wrong.

hmmm
i made a transaction on 19 July for USD $ 50.39 on aliexpress using CIMB CR MC
today i check cimb clicks -> 21-Jul-2017 19-Jul-2017 WWW.ALIEXPRESS.COM LONDON GB RM220.27

21 july is the posting date
19 july is the transaction date

https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/consumers/g...t-currency.html
using the above website

for transaction date of july 19, bank fee of 2% USD50.39 = RM220.27 (exact amount charged to my cc)

if i use July 21 posting date,
bank fee of 2% amounts to RM220.50
bank fee of 1.89% amounts to RM220.26
bank fee of 1.90% amounts to RM220.28
cant get the exact amount of 220.27

did i get the calculations right?
so the calculation should be based on the posting or transaction date?

edit : typo
*
based on your calculation, it looks like it is based on transaction date.
but.. if you read the previous post by MilesAndMore
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=84178914
, you will see his case is based on posting date.
i'm confused too.. smile.gif

So bank charge 1.9%
Mastercard 1% (already built into the exchange rate)?
Effective 2.9%?

Like that quite high....
I'm trying to convince myself to use this card overseas.. As compared to using local card.
Weighing the value of the points this card as it gives decent miles for overseas spending.

i think over here, we take all charges as bank charges. No extra charges from Mastercard.
i could be wrong.

Going Europe in Oct 17 and have to use a lot of $ .. which bank and credit card type is cheapest?  Was reading this blog  rclxub.gif  and seems like AEON or Public Bank's VISA card charge the least %.        Is my understanding correct?    Please advise.

Thanks.

ambank world mastercard is another card you can consider. 1% admin charge is considered one of the lowest.

I didn't apply for the card. Just saw it appears in the bank rakyat website stated no additional charge for any oversea transaction

the best way to check is to perform the actual transaction. i remembered last time when i called HLB to ask about the charges, i was told 'no admin charge, no whatsoever additional charge'.

I dunno where to find the hond leong bank rate.
You are right, HLB Essential is Zero rate using paypal, it calculate on the posting date.

Transaction Type: HLB Essential
Transaction Date: 25/10/2017
Posting Date: 26/10/2017
Transaction amount: TWD1000
Amount charged: RM140.14
VISA rate 0.140144
bank rate:
Difference: 0%

i checked both rate on 25/10 and 26/10. It must be 26/10 rate because the rate for 25/10 (0.139950) is lower than 26/10. So, it should be 0% bank rate.
good info sharing.. let me try when i go overseas , using HLB essential.
