This time around I use maybank visa debit to make online purchase in Sterling Pound. So what I recognise is Maybank Visa Debit charges is a lot lower.
Here's the drill.

Maybank Visa Debit - charge 1.25% of transaction date Exchange rate at 0% commission.
CIMB Mastercard debit - charge 2% of transaction date Exchange rate at 0% commission.

Next time I'll use maybank for sure. But unfortunately, yesterday my maybank got not enough money. sad.gif

for overseas spending, can i confirm that it is based on these 2 factors?
1. foreign exchange (based on exchange rate by mastercard, visa, amex)
2. overseas transaction fees (imposed by banks)

1. for foreign exchange - it is generally accepted that mastercard offers better exchange rates compared to visa?

2. for overseas transaction fees
- public bank > aeon > maybank > cimb - for same type of card
- what about hong leong bank, ambank ?

Rule of thumb is to always pay in the payment currency which in your case is NZD.

my experience recently is buy something from ebay just last month
before this i think there is an option or something that let paypal just charge your credit card in USD or any non local curreny instead of using paypal predetermined rate
my last transaction straight get paypal rate without any choice or i got really bad eyesight during the selection screen and the charge rate is facepalm worthy
make 100% sure that it's gonna charge you in USD instead of RM not sure how... i rarely use paypal anyway will consider avoid using paypal

anyone has experience with refund in foreign currency?

does it follows the rate that was charged previously (as if reversing the transaction) OR it follows the rate of the date of refund (possible gain or loss due to fluctuation of exchange rate)? icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

UOB Visa, YOLO.

Transaction DatePosting DateAmount in foreign currencyAmount in MYRExchange RateVisa Rate Fee %
12/03/201714/03/2017TWD 6116899.870.1471340.1439392.21%
26/12/201628/12/2016SGD34.951113.1759663.1071312.21%

Visa rate is based on transaction date/one day after transaction date, as both cases are the same.

If based on posting date, SGD is 2.5% and TWD is 2.25%. I dont think posting date is the key here.

Would be glad if someone can provide their input.

Used my HLB Wise VISA a few times overseas just a few days ago. On Day 1 I used the card at a Ginseng Chicken Soup restaurant and later at a shop selling pearl milk tea. On Day 2 I used the card again at a restaurant and the same shop selling pearl milk tea. The transaction at the shop selling pearl milk tea on Day 1 was first posted to my account. The other transaction made at the Ginseng Chicken Soup restaurant did not appear for another day together with my second purchase of a pearl milk tea at the pearl milk tea shop. Though the transaction at the Ginseng Chicken Soup restaurant and the pearl milk tea was made on the same day with just about an hour apart, the final exchange rate is different as the posting date for these two transactions are different. The final exchange rate for the transaction made at the Ginseng Chicken Soup restaurant on Day 1 is almost the same as the one for the transaction made at the pearl milk tea shop on Day 2 as these two transactions carry the same posting date. Therefore I believe the final exchange rate is based on posting date.
