Just got my statement.

Using Cimb Cash Rebate Platinum Credit Card
Transaction date: 29/1/2017
Amount: £225
Paid amount: RM1277
When I calculate in Mastercard exchange rate I put in all the numbers, it was roughly around RM1264. But somehow I was charged RM1277.
Is there any hidden charges implied to the card?
Kindly advise me thank you.

This time around I use maybank visa debit to make online purchase in Sterling Pound. So what I recognise is Maybank Visa Debit charges is a lot lower.
Here's the drill.

Maybank Visa Debit - charge 1.25% of transaction date Exchange rate at 0% commission.
CIMB Mastercard debit - charge 2% of transaction date Exchange rate at 0% commission.

Next time I'll use maybank for sure. But unfortunately, yesterday my maybank got not enough money. sad.gif

Based on calculation,
Bank charges 2% if use transaction date.
Bank charges 2.1% if use posting date.

Kindly confirm which one is correct. Thanks.

This time around I used Maybank Visa Debit to purchase from UK online site.

Transaction TypeMBB Visa Debit
Transaction Date25/11/2017
Posting Date26/11/2017
Transaction amountGBP 29.53
Amount chargedRM 164.78
visa rate @ 0%GBP 1 = RM 5.511135 at 25/11/2017 so total should be RM 162.743817
bank rateGBP 1 = RM 5.58008805
Difference1.25%
*

I was torn whether to use CIMB CR Mastercard or MBB Visa Debit for the purchase.

MBB Visa Debit charge 1.25% consistently based on my few overseas spending before this.

CIMB will give 2% cash rebate for foreign currency online spend but the charge would be 2% on top of Mastercard exchange rate on transaction date.

And one more thing usually Mastercard exchange rate will be lower than Visa for the same date;

i.e for 25/11/2017 Mastercard £1=5.504709 whilst visa £1= 5.511135.

I ended up using MBB Visa Debit in the end.

So still a bit blurry which card is better on this. doh.gif doh.gif

Posting Date 27/11/2017
Transaction amount Turkish 48.90
Amount charged RM 52.50
bank fee 2%
2) Bank Rakyat Debit Cards
Transaction Type Bank Rakyat Mydebit MasterCard
Transaction Date 24/11/2017

my bank rakyat card had 0% foreign exchange fee. anyone else had use one?

It should be 0% based on their campaign. So far I have not seen that they withdraw the campaign.

I think not many of us here ever tried to use either Bank Rakyat Debit/Credit Card. Perhaps you can try and then let us know about it.
👍👍

This one I just tried M2C AMEX since someone just posted that AMEX rate these few days might be lower than Visa/Mastercard. The AMEX rate at 0% above is just assuming that 2.5% AMEX charge applies for my transaction.

Now compare if I use MBB Visa Debit/Visa Credit.

Visa Exchange rate @ 0 % at 19/02/2018 (posting date) GBP 1 = 5.537834

If I pay via MBB Visa Debit, I would pay RM 134.57 (1.25%), 1 GBP = RM 5.60708

If I pay via MBB Visa Credit, I would pay RM 135.90 (2.25%), 1 GBP = RM 5.6625

Definitely I would pay less if I pay using MBB Visa Debit, but since this transaction is on weekends, might as well use M2C Amex. And looks like AMEX have low FX rate based on this case. smile.gif

Is there any VISA based prepaid or debit card that has 0% transaction fees?

If I'm not mistaken bank rakyat debit card is Visa. Maybe you can try get one from them. But this card got annual fee of Rm8 (waived for first year). Now it got promo whereby 0% mark up rate for overseas transaction. But none of us here have posted their transaction using this card. Maybe you can be one 😂😂😂

I think their cards are all Mastercard? I will call to enquire.

I recently used the below cards to receive money.

Charges applicable
- Maybank Barcelona Visa Signature =2.3%
- Public Bank Visa Signature = 1.37%

I am still trying to find a Visa card that can receive money with 0% charges.
I've used a mastercard before that has 0% charges, but I need a Visa instead sad.gif

Not really sure what do you mean by ``receive money``. Usually cards are used to spend, not to receive money. ie debit cards are attached to savings account, credit card is used to spend within the limit of your credit card.

So I'm not sure what do you mean by 'receive money' here...

An example...
When you claim back Value Added Tax, VAT (we call GST in Malaysia) when leaving Europe, you can choose to receive VAT (GST) refund in cash or direct credit to your Visa/Mastercard.
Refund to a Visa/Mastercard enjoy better exchange rate and more convenient than refund in cash (long queue)!
*
Alright noted. Never experienced that before. But I've had a few refund to my MBB Visa Debit due to no show from airline and usually the rate is quite favourable since sometimes rate at the time of refund issuance is higher than the time you make the purchase.

However, I am not sure about such cards that have zero charges on receiving fund though. My experience on refund is the difference is quite minimal which is around 1 to 1.5% due to exchange rate fluctuations. In other words you'll not get the full amount you expect😊😊
