check the visa rate from here: https://usa.visa.com/support/consumer/trave...calculator.html

if we look at your transaction posted on the 17/10/16, i presume it's for usd, and usd7.94 was converted as myr34.20...

a myr cc paying in usd is charged by visa (17/10) at 4.221578.

on the same day, a usd cc paying in myr is charged 0.238526, or a usd/myr rate of 4.192415....the median rate is thus 4.206997....giving a spread of 0.3466% both ways...that's visa's "profit"...

you were charged myr34.20, and that gives a rate of 4.307305...

calculating based on visa given conversion rate, the extra you paid is (4.307305-4.221578)....divide by the visa rate, gives you 2.03%....that's what the bank charges....

calculating based on visa median rate (ie the REAL rate on that day). you get 2.36%....that's the REAL extra charges imposed, by all parties involved...

Bro,

When i Logged into the visa link, the bank fee I placed 0% and got 4.221578.

How do you get rate of 4.192415? Thanks notworthy.gif

Sharing for one of the payment via New Aeon Gold Visa.

Transaction date: $8.43 18/10/16 (US time)

Posting date: MY36.08 20/10/16

Visa rate at website on 20th: 4.199580

Bank charges: [(36.08/8.43) - 4.199580]/4.199580*100 = 1.91%

Seems Aeon Gold Visa bank charges not low as well..

i think limeuu is right, the same bank and same card may charge differently on different day on the foreign transactions.

tried many times d, PBVS is at 1.25%

I got one transaction, PB only charge 0.69%.
and I found out master gives better rate than visa. So was initially thinking to use RHB master card rather than PBVS. But, after few round of transactions using RHB master, i then realised the bank charge from RHB vary from 1% to 2.x%. Which end up, the converted amount in RM is more or less the same using RHB master and PBVS. I think I will use PBVS for my following transactions. Thanks for your information on PBVS.

Hi. Normally I will not have any problems using credit card for online purchase. But this website keep reject my cc/paypal, perhaps because of they want US cc. Is there any chances to solve this without having US cc?

hi all,

i am starting to look into cost of my cc for overseas purchase

i see on post #1 there are some fees in % which are different from bank to bank

does this mean if we use cc to buy something overseas, bank will charge fee (in %) + exchange rate of that time?

yeah you are right, the difference is 1.51%

i should try with my Aeon Gold one day to see if it's the same nod.gif

I wish this is the same to other bank master cards. From what I noticed, master rate is better than visa. unfortunately some times my rhb master card yields 2.x%. ends up the converted amount is similar to using pb vs.

Hi guys.. I need urgent help here. I bought something online using PayPal with bank conversion rate. I bought at 375 usd but bank charges my debit card rm1.8k. How could this be when direct conversion is RM1675. That's about nearly rm125 more.

Paypal has charges nearly 4%.

You need to know the total USD fee charged to you?

or USD375 is the amount billed in your statement? You can see that figure. Then, use MYR converted to divide by USD. If it is, 4.8 is too high and you should question your card issuer.

- Maybank American Express with Maybank logo on top : 2.8-3%
- American Express : 2.8 -3%
- CIMB Bank : (cashback plat) 2.53% (should be ~ 1% + 1.5%)
- Public Bank : 1.25%, (visa signature) 1.0125%
- RHB Bank : (master plat) 1.02%
- AmBank :
- Hong Leong Bank VISA/MasterCard:
- EON Bank :
- Affin Bank :
- Alliance :
- Aeon: (gold) 1.5% (watami) 0.8-1.2%

Foreign Banks
- HSBC : (visa plat) 2.27% (should be ~ 1% + 1.25%)
- OCBC bank :
- Standard Chartered :
- UOB Bank :
- Citibank : 1% + 1.4% (= 2.414%)

yeah, genx's reader (or iFriend) wrote an article that his AM World MC has just 1% (refer here). But it is unknown on AM VI, but should be also just 1% since both are enjoying equivalent benefits? (since their AM VI Priority is only available in VI, no master)
