Btw i have a question. I took PTPTN loan for my degree, and the total interest is around 13 to 14k (15 year loan). Is this amount deductable? I declared my 2009 income tax already, and wonder if the interest is deductable? I heard it is.

thanks guanteik, beside kwsp, are transport allowance got tax exempt rm2400 per annual?

If you are talking about petrol allowance from home to work, then yes, it is tax exempted up to RM2.4k per annum. However for official use, it is tax exempted up to RM6k per annum.

Those with business income should be the June 30th deadline.

Employer must state 2'two' kids of transport allowances
1. Allowance for expenses from home to office - RM 2400 exempted
2. Allowance for expenses for official purpose - RM 6000.00 exemped
MUST be documented clearly

should rectify with your employer, this amount should be in Part G of your EA form (exempt income) and should not be included into your total income

you deduct from total annual income. Be sure that your total annual income has not yet minus the transport allowance maximum coz sometimes HR dept already considered the allowance and did not add in into the total annual income like leongal mentioned (they put under part G), do your own calculation to confirm. Bonuses also go into total annual income.

never heard bout the loan interest deductible, at the moment only interest on housing loan is deductible..correct me if i'm wrong. The degree fees are deductible if you did it in 2009, up to a maximum value of rm5k. Others deductible if you open SSPN account up to rm3K and also if you have any education insurans.

it is not tax relief

it is under the "Aggregate Income" call - Less: Donations and Gifts, in the section "Statutory Income and Total Income"

(-)Reliefs
=Chargeable Incm
First amount
Next remaining amount x rate
