QUOTE(daron @ Mar 10 2010, 05:20 PM)
so the explainatory note saying that insurance paid for husband/wife is only relevant for joint assessment?

and what about the medical/education insurance for self, spouse and children? is it the same?

QUOTE(acougan @ Mar 11 2010, 03:28 PM)
correct me if i'm not mistaken, but in a separate assessment, a husband/wife is allowed to claim deduction for buying (& paying) life & medical insurance on the spouse's name, no?

Yes.

sorry for not fully understand this. doing this for 1st year..
but how do we determine who is the payer? i can always say i pay for my wife and my wife paid for mine?
receipts are not going to say who paid for it and the tax relief cert only mentions the insured's name..

You need to sort out yourself about this issue, and explain to LHDN with proof and documentation.

That's why the guide said, it is could be hassle when dealing this kind of issue.

Tax relief cert only mentioned the insured name, so to be simple, stick with insured name relief. No point husband pay for wife, and claim relief from the wife insurance, then wife pay for husband then claim relief from husband insurance, just like what had been suggested previously. As you may save a little as previous suggested example, but could be hassle afterwards and also LHDN might not agree this kind of doing.

Where in the e-Filing do I put this figure in?

LOL.

RM13. not worth my damn time to go all the way down there and stress myself up tongue.gif

Anyway, salary below 2.5k is not taxable right? or it's counted as 0% taxable? tongue.gif
The moment you have PCB taken off, you need to file tax. It's not the RM13 refund that's the problem. The problem is that IRB will, based on the PCB they receive, estimate your yearly income, calculate your tax with no deductions, and then send a letter to you asking to pay.

Personal experience biggrin.gif

exactly. agree on his statement.

When it's written "dikecualikan cukai" or "tax-exempted", it has been deducted from the total income as well. you can check your EA form to see if it's tally.

Just fill total at penggajian - no need to break up your employment income.

For most of the companies, all the allowance has been calculated in the EA form. Under Total taxable income (i suddenly can't recall the exact name. don't have my EA form in this computer).

But it's advisable to go through your EA form carefully.

Thanks. Just clarified this with my HR as well and the amount they put in there was basically all my claims - travel, petrol, etc etc, that isn't income and so isn't supposed to be taxed.

Finished my e-Filing! Getting a small 200-bucks return of tax this year, yay!

I believed we are over-taxed for year 2009 so mostly will get refunded.

yes. I'm not sure this is a company-thingy or government-thingy scheme. I received an email once saying that for 2009, they will actually deduct more from our salary as PCB. This is to ensure that everyone has paid their income tax.
It's like the government would rather prefer to "have your money first, pay you back later", instead of "wait for you to pay".

You should get a confirmation mailed to you when you first opened your tax profile at KWSP office. Else, a call to them will be good.
