i need it to be fast. camera power is the last thing i need. and the battery life is not the main consideration point. i have no problem with weak battery since i always brought charger anywhere i go and in-car charger too.

SE xperia x10. Good xenon flash + 8mp camera, web browsing can be improved by using Dolphin Browser HD, battery life is above average, 1ghz proc with Adreno 200, but to track your phone, i think you have to download an app to it. You can seach for security apps and if you download Lookout defender, you can make your phone release a shrieking noise at the maximum volume if you lose it in the house.

SGS has a promised Gingerbread update and also tons of custom roms whereas gaming can be done from light games to the most demanding ones. Your requirements are pretty simple so any of these phones are fine. Incredible S can only be temporarily rooted so you can't consider it yet. DHD has bad battery life.

Can anyone tell me whether galaxy ace is a good deal for that price range? really considering this phone but i read in this website that there are issue with SOD.

ace no flash support how play flash game o.O

no doubt, se x10 is better sga
however, i not sure flash game can play anot
as now x10 is 2.1, not 2.2 hence no full flash support, hope the 2.3 update will bring it for x10~

probably the top cameraphone in android & top lowlight camera performance in phone world...
BRAVIA engine display is awesome(can compete head to head against S.AMOLED)

honestly, for what your wife need, i recommend you leave the android land & go to the blackberry land

blackberry bold is better for what she use & need
email, sms[typical spammerheavy messaging]
long battery life[blackberry]

Angry Bird is not demanding so no. Games like NOVA will though. I recommend you get the SGS though. SL is not a good choice with the nerfed RAM and proc. DHD has bad battery life. Ace's processor is not Flash10.1 capable. 2x has a few issues so i wouldn't recommend it.

yup it's led flash. whats the downside of having the bootloader locked?
i read the x10 thread. it says something about ROM, rooting, flashing, etc. do they mean the same thing? 
also, people talk about the gingerbread update. does it come with the phone if i buy later this year?

The specs on galaxy s > optimus black but its thinner, lighter and should be priced around galaxy sl since they have similar specs

SGSL & Optimus Black basically runs on the same 1GHz TI OMAP 3630 Processor
SGA is out from your choice because no flash & people say it got possibility of SOD occurs

the cheapest choice would be SE XPERIA x10/Acer Liquid Metal S120 [around 1k+]
but they dun hav gorilla glass though..
x10 is probably the best cameraphone to date with in Android [yes it is, before Arc arrive]
promised 2.3 official update[hopefully will bring full flash support], mediascape UI will be replaced by the SE latest UI for 2.3 though

Acer Liquid Metal is officially 2.2, there's full flash support ready, but the camera is sub par [below average o.O]
unlocked bootloader, but seems like not much ppl supporting this device?

u might as well consider DEFY if u want something tough & can even go bath with your phone, record video under water 

if u consider SGSL, u can get SGS/captivate/vibrant AP set though which has Super AMOLED
why Super AMOLED?
SGSL has SCLCD [not SLCD], its quite decent but not as good sunlight legibility/battery efficient as Super AMOLED
also, SGSL is noticed for the much heavier weight compare to SGS & slightly weaker GPU/chipset

for HTCs, you got Desire S, Incredible S & Desire HD as choice
3 of them are pretty much the same except...
Incredible S got bootloader locked(Desire S also?) but better battery, much compact than DHD also has S-LCD
Desire S is comes with 2.3 while Incredible S comes with 2.2 & wait for update
Desire HD for those who like superb big screen but just LCD display (4.3"), unlocked bootloader but much weaker battery, heavier/bulkier than DS/IS
camera 5mp/8mp AF+LED Flash
so after all, its back to own preference between those 3

but i will choose SE XPERIA Arc > HTC IS/DHD/DS
reason: best cameraphone in android + best low-light camera performance, good outlook - SE XPERIA Arc with the Exmor R sensor + BRAVIA Engine display
arc runs on the same 1GHz snappydragon processor, comes with 2.3, better camera & screen display, nice outlook, slim & light weight
got HDMI port etc.

not really possible for all phones to always able to get the latest version [can get custom ROM though if official don't provide]
as hardware will get better & better, then will start to have hardware limitations
even you got the latest version, some feature might not available
like android 2.2 full flash support, has a hardware limitation [at least VGA, 550MHz dedicated Cortex A8 processor etc.] & the HTC Sense 3.0 UI needs dual core or [1.5GHz single core for the HTC Flyer tablet]
