I found something interesting. The hold amount for petrol purchase via cc at the pump varies according to bank. Not pre set by the station I initially thought so.

I tested my SC card whether it is activated or not and then went on to pump with my Amex.

Today used my MBB2 Amex @ Petron Sri Damansara Jalan Kepong.
Price of petrol = RM90.00
Amex 5% weekend rebate = RM4.50
Amex 5X treats point (about 2.5% if converted to cash)= RM2.25
Petron give 1.5X Smile point = 90 X 1.5 = 135 point (3000 point = RM45) = RM2.025
Total rebate = RM8.775
If converted to % = 9.75% for RM90.00 fuel
Not bad for this combination.

The maximum cash rebate you are entitled to in a month.

Cool yah!

This combination make me feel good coz it's like having a discount on fuel price.

Add a free tissue box too.

I guess so.... Maybe Klang Valley's Petronas stations has been "upgraded" to accept & approve AMEX transactions at the pump.

May I know how the calculate for the Amex card cash back for pumping petrol at Petronas ? Weekend cash back 5% + extra RM5 ?

On weekend, 5% cashback + 5 time TP.
On weekdays, 5 time TP only.

Hi guys, i am looking for new credit card to apply.
As this is my first credit card, i wonder if its really beneficial for me if i use it rarely. let say, once per month?

1. Annual Income: RM3k per month = RM36k per annum.

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Preferably yes.

3. Card required for: Most of it for petrol and bill payment, sometimes movies and sometimes grocerries.

4. Existing credit cards if any: Nil.

5. Looking at CC from: Any

6. Others: Currently i only have two debit card which is Maybank and CIMB. mainly used for petrol and grocerries but no discount +_+

imo, i guess SC current promo (15% rebate) is the best for petrol, though we cant assure its continuity after 6 months...
for more balanced, alrounded, should be ocbc, or maybank 2 cards (for weekend spending).

alamak. I think i will stop pumping at Petron Sri Kembangan, opposite South City liao. At first its for the tissue, but now they ran out liao. Start to give free 500ml bottle water oni. Plus that station posting date is slow. 2 days later oni posted. Few time liao miss the weekend cashback on MBB2 Amex
