Post Beta 2 Vista ImprovementsAs we come into the home stretch in the Windows Vista development cycle, we've got a lot of stuff left to do to make this the best Windows release ever. As we do this, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for your feedback and give you an idea of the ways you're helping. We've gotten feedback from all types of people - general consumers, IT Professionals, enthusiasts - you name it -- from all around the world. Some of the development teams came to me and asked that we share a sampling of the changes that we've made based on your feedback. While some of these changes may seem small, when you realize that they will affect hundreds of millions of people -- and in some cases, those people will notice the benefit every time they use the operating system -- well, in all it's really pretty awesome. Here are just a few of the changes we've implemented as a direct result of your feedback from Beta 2. Many of these changes are in recent post-Beta 2 builds, and all will definitely be included in our RC-1 release. http://blogs.technet.com/windowsvista/arch.../28/443839.aspx

I want to ask whether anyone have an idea of what's going on. Situation: My vista is running great and I have both XP and Vista at seperate partition. When dual boot options appears, and if I select previous version of windows(XP), my boot screen will flicker and welcome screen will be black. Most of the time, everything recovers after the taskbar etc is loaded. But recently, XP fails to recover from graphics distortion and it just turn irresponsive(not hang, just explorer and a few services does not work). Vista is perfect. What a waste if I cannot have both XP and vista installed. Anyone can help me?

QUOTE(samurai1337 @ Aug 5 2006, 08:54 AM) Are you sure this problem exists because of your Vista+XP dual boot or is it just solely your WinXP problem? It is confirmed to be the dual boot. No such problem will exist without vista dual boot and the problem can be resolved by removing vista. New update: XP's explorer.exe will sort of hang now. For me to boot in XP, I need to end explorer.exe and restart explorer.exe

now hear some news from the black hat community. QUOTE While Microsoft talked up Windows Vista security at Black Hat, a researcher in another room demonstrated how to hack the operating system. Joanna Rutkowska, a Polish researcher at Singapore-based Coseinc, showed that it is possible to bypass security measures in Vista that should prevent unsigned code from running. In the second part of her talk, Rutkowska explained how it is possible to use virtualisation technology to make malicious code undetectable, in the same way a rootkit does. She code-named this malicious software Blue Pill."Microsoft is investigating solutions for the final release of Windows Vista to help protect against the attacks demonstrated," a representative for the software maker said. "In addition, we are working with our hardware partners to investigate ways to help prevent the virtualisation attack used by the Blue Pill." source: ZDnet via msfn

QUOTE(cylon @ Aug 10 2006, 06:03 PM) Longhorn is the codename for next version of Windows Server. Longhorn is the codename for Windows Vista, not specifically only for the server edition.

M$ has stopped releasing CD keys and has also ceased providing downloads of it. Any distribution of it by other means would be illegal.

Via Neowin"According to sources at Microsoft, the company plans to ship Windows Vista Release Candidate 1 (RC1) in early September. More important, perhaps, is that Microsoft still plans to release Vista to manufacturing by the end of October as previously planned, defying rumors that the company would delay Vista yet again. Although I'm not at liberty to divulge the full contents of the message, Microsoft has placed build 5520 into escrow as the RC1 of Vista. This build will be released to testers and the public after the Labor Day holiday in the United States, which falls this year on September 4. Currently, Microsoft expects to ship RC1 on or after September 7. Meanwhile, the release to manufacturing (RTM), or final, version of Vista is set for a September 2006 escrow and final release on or before October 25. We can expect a Longhorn Server Beta 3 release in first quarter 2007, an RC2 release in second quarter 2007, and the final release in the second half of 2007."

Some works, some partially and some just dont works. There's a trial offer of PC Cillin antivirus for Vista, and for NAV only the newer Corporate Edition version 10 compatible with Vista. U can try here!

QUOTE(cylon @ Aug 24 2006, 10:17 AM) ....and January next year for consumers. Great... That roughly means March for something like a Vista SP1 to come out then I can bother myself with major hardware upgrades. Let's not even start on the darn dx10.Satu bendalah yang buat aku berbulu betul dengan dx ni is the fact that EVERYTIME its version changes, so does the WHOLE core PC components to go with it -/-*. Thank God nowadays I'd usually wait for the whole PC games environment to keep up in releasing dx10 driven titles en masse before I'd even think to upgrade stuff.
