If ever your N8 failed to boot up (mean pressing the power button but no response), do as follow:
1. Verify is it a SW hang by long press the power button >7.5 seconds to force shutdown the N8. This is for SW hang scenario 2. Plug in the charger and wait for AT LEAST 15 minutes, then try to boot up. This is for depleted battery scenario 3. If you are SURE the battery not depleted and got the DEAD N8, send to NCC for checking as it might be defective hardware related issues.
From experience, the N8 can't be Hard Reset once it's failed to boot up normally or so call "DEAD N8".

2. Open these files with the default photo viewer.
3. Go into an enclose place (total darkness needed) wait for a while (to let our eyes get use to the darkness) and view into the phone screen.
4. From what I've observed the phone AMOLED will start to turn off start at "ST BLACK-04.bmp", "ST BLACK-03.bmp", "ST BLACK-02.bmp", "ST BLACK-01.bmp",
"ST BLACK-00.bmp".
5. The screen dark "stains" will sufface as well during these few color cards.
6. Start from "ST BLACK-05.bmp" onward the dark "stains" will be not so visible.
7. All these have to be done in total darkness room as these defective "stains" are not visible at all when the surrounding are bright.
After you seen these result DO NOT simply bash N8 straight away as we're not sure why/how the AMOLED display technology work and how it perform on other

03. Default browser randomly crash and causing an auto soft reboot. (CONFIRMED) - when surfing mostly on those heavy site the browser will crash for no reason (confirm not cause by low resource). - try disable the "Java/ECMA script" might help on some heavy scripted pages.
04. Call Logs missing even set to keep for 30 days. (CONFIRMED) - Logs over flooded by network connection logs. - Logs having limited overall entry although set to keep for 30 days.
05. Screen won't be fully turn OFF after the charging complete popup message. (CONFIRMED) - Plug in the charger and let the phone to charge. - After the charging complete, a message will popup, do not disturb it and let the phone to turn off the screen as usual. - Turn off the surrounding light (a total darkness needed to observe the screen). - When look the screen in total darkness, you can see a grayish screen with some dark spots (dirty stains).
06. Silence Profile together with Power Saving Mode will result in TOTAL silence phone without any vibration alert. 08. Rapid charging with Nokia AC-8X charger intermittent stop charging in the middle. 29. FM Transmitter RDS - The FM Transmitter now send RDS "Nokia N8" and not just "Nokia".
30. Video Call FPS Improvement - Slightly change the video call setting fps from original min/norm/max of 5/10/15 to 10/15/20. Not tested as not really use video call.

Please follow below steps to get the 6 home screen mods into your beloved N8/E7/C7/C6-01 (All S^3 devices):
01. Download the attached file 200159c0.zip, extract the folder into your PC (keep all the subfolders info intact). 02. Backup your phone contents for emergency use if anything go wrong. 03. Connect the Nokia N8 to the computer through USB MASS STORAGE Mode (very important). 04. From the computer, go to E:\Private\200159c0 folder in your phone (create it if it's not there). 05. Copy all those EXTRACTED files (both "import" & "install" subfolders) from your PC into phone E:\Private\200159c0 folder (replace/overwrite all existing files). 06. Properly disconnect your phone. 07. Wait for 1 minute. 08. Change your phone profile to OFFLINE Mode. 09. Now on your phone, go to Menu> Settings> Phone> Phone mgmt. > Factory Settings > Restore
After the phone will auto reboot, you lose all your settings (location of widgets, icons arrangement). All applications and files will still keep intact (photos, videos, music, messages, contacts).
For users who used my S^3 Multiple Mods V6.00, you will need to reinstall the mods then reboot your phone after the factory setting restoration!!!
Who ever facing Ovi Store, Social Apps and Nokia Battery Monitor issue due to QT issues either after Hard Reset or after some mess up QT installations... please follow below instructions to Restore the QT apps:
1. Install qtdowngrade.sis to C:/Phone Memory (Important to install to correct drive!)
skipped steps 2 & 3 if you can't find the "QtExamples" folder to be delete 2. Go to application grid and select Options -> Organise. 3. Long-press on QtExamples folder and select Delete.
4. Go to Settings -> Application manager -> Installed apps 5. Long-press on qtdowngrade from the list and select Uninstall 6. Reboot
1. Uninstall both "Social" & "Social Installer" from the default Apps Manager. 2. Reboot the phone. 3. Download "Social Apps.zip". 4. Extract the zip and transfer the .wgz & .sisx to the phone (using file manager). 5. FIRST!! Install "Sosial Mixer v1.02.144.wgz" into E:\ drive then 6. Install "Social Networks v1.03.143.sisx" (wait until the Widget installation popup done!!)

I noticed that when I plugged the phone into my laptop to transfer songs, the phone went on a permanent "Media Transfer in Progress", even though the media was already supposedly transferred on Ovi. Is this normal? or did I just buy a broken set
Edit: More than 3 hours have passed, and I only transferred 3 songs

I noticed that when I plugged the phone into my laptop to transfer songs, the phone went on a permanent "Media Transfer in Progress", even though the media was already supposedly transferred on Ovi. Is this normal? or did I just buy a broken set
Edit: More than 3 hours have passed, and I only transferred 3 songs
when u connect ur phone to pc, it states that it's connected in wat mode?

Blue red dots? Is it noise? If it is , then its not the camera problem. Its because your picture your taking doesn't have enough light.

If i use mass storage, it becomes a permanent USB connection active, even without files being transferred.
This happens when I try to open the Music Player while the phone is connected to the PC.
There u have your answer because u transferring u open the music player. Wait you transfer finish unplug only open the music player and u wont face this issue. Remember to refresh the library for it to update

has any1 sent their n8 to ncc to fix the purple tint display and succeed?
i think better wait few more months for Nokia to get a better quality and QC AMOLED display first for now. Still too new for NCC to handle this issue, scared that their spare part display all also got same issue. Unless right now we got some dare devils here willing to send to NCC as guinea pigs Btw, the colour banding issue on the AMOLED will be more obvious with Dark Grey N8 with the original theme. And when watching videos or when u taking low light photo, sometimes very obvious also the issue

for browser experience...erm n8 is not a BEST choice, okay okay la . for camera... yeap..n8 can do decent shots. for GPS...yes i think? well i rarely use GPS so not really can review that... but speed quite fast la, but detail term not sure...but got other choice like garmin haha. for Gaming... well seems n8 starting have more and more decent game...but still not the best gaming device for n8... but n8 now have angry bird, fruit ninja...etc.

Desire HD and N8 both compare spec side by side, lose kao kao. Got a big screen but not AMOLED. Camera no custom modes. Bluetooth 2 only. No tv out. HD recording oso cacat. Good side is the *Gween Lobot* OS good only. Price sumore at RM2.1k
damnit, my 4 year old nokia n70 refuses to totally die. but I guess the N8's camera is a good investment. its crazy having to spend over rm500 for a phone lol, personally for me.

from N8 launch till now...N8 camera still the best amount all the camera phone available on the market
for price...try search at "Mobile Phones and Related Accessories" section, saw few forumer selling at RM14xx (ORI)

I think it would somewhat consume more power as more tasks are running. And if you fill it up with active widgets I would think that the results on battery life would be quite noticeable. Any users out there would care to share?
same here... sama saja the batt usage... but with the PR1.1 it do seem the batt usage been extented a bit...
I have tested 6 HS with at least 3 to 4 live widget each HS....battery life suck and if using 6 HS I unable to change default wallpaper. it say error widget memory full something like that and the phone a bit slower...and i lost about 20mb ram with 6HS vs 3HS.... btw reboot also slower and sometime hang when set 6 or 5 HS with 3 to 4 live widget...
now using only 4 HS only...so far look good..speed better almost same like 3 HS...
In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday, Nokia laid out the threats it faces as part of its planned deal with Microsoft.
There are many, according to Nokia. Some have already been identified by critics of the agreement, under which Nokia will phase out use of its Symbian operating system in favor of Microsoft's Windows Phone software. Publicly held companies routinely disclose all the possible risks of their businesses to shareholders.
The immaturity of that software, just released in phones in November, is one serious risk, Nokia said.
"The Windows Phone platform is a very recent, largely unproven addition to the market focused solely on high-end smartphones with currently very low adoption and consumer awareness relative to the Android and Apple platforms, and the proposed Microsoft partnership may not succeed in developing it into a sufficiently broad competitive smartphone platform," Nokia wrote in the filing.
While the companies have signed a "non-binding term sheet," they still have to negotiate the final contract, a process that might take longer than expected or might not happen at all, Nokia warned.
By choosing Windows Phone, Nokia may forgo more competitive alternatives that would let its phones reach greater and faster acceptance in the market, it said.
Also, the transition to Windows Phone might take too long to allow Nokia to compete, given the ongoing development of other platforms, Nokia said.
In the same filing, Nokia said it expects to take two years to make the transition to Windows Phone as its primary platform. During that time, it will continue to support Symbian in the hopes of transitioning the installed base of 200 million Symbian owners to Nokia Windows phones, Nokia said. It reiterated its hopes of selling an additional 150 million Symbian phones in future years.
Nokia pointed to other threats as well, such as the danger that the deal could erode its brand identity in areas such as China, where it is quite strong, and fail to enhance the brand in areas such as the U.S., where it is currently weak.
Another challenge will be building a profitable business model around a platform like Windows Phone, for which Nokia must pay royalties, Nokia said. While Symbian is a royalty-free operating system, it didn't come without significant costs to Nokia, which spent more than US$400 million in 2008 to buy the half of the Symbian company that it didn't already own.
In the filing, Nokia also warned about the challenges it faces internally as it implements the new plan for Windows Mobile. For example, it may not be able to change its mode of working or culture to work effectively with Microsoft, the company said. Because Nokia anticipates laying off a large number of workers, the remaining employees may lose motivation, energy and focus, thus reducing their productivity, Nokia said.
Because of all of the uncertainty resulting from the proposed deal, the company said it will not provide annual targets for 2011, although it expects its devices business to grow faster than the market.

im having a problem with my ant egg. I have recorded a video and when i go to main menu>photos and when i try to open it there and it will show loading and it just disappear itself. when I try to open it at main menu>videos and it can be played normally. either restart phone or restart modem then it'll be ok... common prob.. our N8 is the cause.. Tested using all diff wireless device have no prob, only N8
the question is how soon for nokia, currently the only timely release was the valentine session update... the 1.5.x update still not out for angry bird...hope rio will be fast fast...
on other note my ovi store problem still not settle, they haven't even replied me yet...sigh...use money to support them also get this sort of customer service...

though i like the qwerty split screen keyboard, it seems the keys too small. as soon as i saw the key i thought thats not gonna be good the photos goes strait to photo gallery is quite useful. the browser seems improving a bit wait n see i suppose

Just called up the number and got automated voice message saying that the line is closed on 14th for special function and reopen on 15th. But today is the 15th what.
BTW, advanced booking for Package 2 is 3 days in advance. So everyone who wants to participate please confirm early early ah.
Tickets are RM20 for Mykad holders for both Observatory and Skybrige visit. If he's confirming then he will have to pay in advance RM40 then I pay back RM20 deposit on him showing up.

but i found that my N8 also very clear under sunlight with CBD. Last time 5800XM cant see anything under sunlight

yup and that ovi syn sometime will syn old data and overwrite ur new data... so better do more "physical" backup for safe...
can any1 told me what to do with this? my n79 get hang when open menu.. typing numbers/msg.. i already format using *#7370# & *#7730# (only sometimes can type) but still same.... donno what happen. >.<

u can go to settings->connectivity->setting->destinations
here u press any access points long enough then menu pop out just delete those u donwan(i delete my 3g cuz i no use them), this method solve my problem maybe others got better suggestion so wait them reply first

nop it's not... when u enable this mods it will remove these "critical" system apps from protected... which mean u can fully close it...

Dun worry, there are plenty of senior members and junior members here who owns an N8 willing to help u anytime.
For the dead issue thing, I rarely or sort of haven't heard of any incident anymore lately. If there is any now, it usually happened on the older batch of phones. Some speculate that the newer batch is more stable. But regardless the risk is still there and it's less than 5% so it's up to u n ur luck.
If you are looking for a phone with a good camera then it is definitely a good buy if u minus the fact that a normal basic digital camera just cost slightly cheaper.
There's no "jailbreak" here but there are something called "mods" and "signed certificate" We'll teach u more bout it once u got the n8

1. I'm not so sure bout this but an orange N8 in M'sia is definitely newer considering M'sia did not have orange until a "very" long time after that
2. N8 is definitely the best camera phone in the market now hands down without contest. Just look at Aspire's picture and you'll know why
3. Well, we prefer not to use the term jailbreak since it's "exclusively" for ifags
4. Get Ori, no point getting AP since the price is not even much different. Some AP is even more expensive than Ori. And becareful with shops in Sg Wang. I'm not sure why but that day I went to get 2 phones from Sg Wang, the sales person told me out of 100 N8, 60 of their phones get returned. And for the 2 phones I bought which is Ori (BB and Nokia), I found out they are both "underwater" sets but yet it's definitely Ori warranty.
5. It's available long time but rare. It's a beautiful colour which I originally wanted but it was not out in M'sia till very much alter on

1. N8 launch in malaysia 16/10/10, if u get ORI set from nokia, should be new batch ady, but if get AP set, that depend on their old stock, but chance of getting first batch is very very low

Think really hard before you make this purchase. If you want a good camera and a phone, go for it. If you want internet, games, good e-mail, and good apps, looks for an android or iphone. Simple

Those sign cert to make your life easy just pm me your imei and it's done already. If you like photography n8 is a good starting point. It helps me at work, clubbing, family portrait, close up, low light, and with some 3rd party u know how great it can be

If you own a Nokia phone before, N8 will be the right phone for you. Actually, signed certificate is not the same as jailbreak. Signed certificate is very easy and will not harm your phone. I believe all Nokia user (smartphone) need to get their phone certificate key to install most downloaded app. Another way to install most app by not using certificate signing is firmware mod or jailbreak for *phone.

Then inside u see got word backup. Backup then save the file o Else where. Format di restore back. Then make sure format mass storage to fat32. So for butt head know this just my opinion don't google it.

Lol , seems like PR1.1 doesn't really improves much. Since i got it , i got quite minor problems here and there.
the stereo only in encoding but the source still in mono... to get real stereo recording u need to use video capture as only this way both mic will be activated...
mean the screen will rotate follow the hw sensor... (experiment mod to overcome the current un-turnable call screen) this mod actually do not much as the default PR1.1 already have those landscape dialer BUT with only 1 lag is the Call Screen (the screen when u call somebody) it still stuck permanent in portrait...

one of the member previously face such issue. Try use the contact us in ovi store and inform your problem. Last time i tried my MY stuff was empty. I fixed it by uninstall ovi store and reinstall then relogin then all appear back.

Today i called NCC to complain about my n8 bad reception. The lady told me this could be due to corrupt img/mp3/vid files thats saved in the phone's INTERNAL memory. So she advise to delete or buy extra micro sdcard and xfer the files over.
