normally coz of superlux driver range can go very high and very low, ppl tends to dislike the extreme high end of the spectrum that cannot be heard previously with other headphone.

but with 681, that shouldnt be the case. so maybe your setup not sync with 681 or they are bright.

hihi, just wanna to share the opinion,
as XSI mentioned, the sharp is much for him int he treble.
extreme high end spectrum actually dont provide " treble is too harsh ", it is the tuning part they can perform, how well the handle on that part, high end cans provide controllable and nice gripping on the extension on treble, with the borderline of reaching sharp/harsh, if 681 providing this type of sounding, it's considering a bright headphone will less control on the treble part, with the enhance power by the E9 amplifier, it will amplify the treble even more sharper.

the reason i said those because 681 is not a bright headphone. andd my first paragraph is not referring to his prob. just merely stating that alot ppl misunderstood in that way.

fyi, alot of ppl regard bright headphone as harsh because they do not like/able to stand the brightness. Eg 668b

Oh yeah, 668B is bright indeed... they way I like it. But it is in no way harsh.

And 681 will take some time to burn in (a few hundred hours to tame it down).

Finish burning, then do the Frans Filter mod to reduce the treble if you still find it too bright.

However I tried using the Maverick D1 tube out to my secret amp then hooking it up to my 668B, it seems to have "calmed" the harshesness thanks to the tube's darkness. Might be worth a try with the 681 as well.

I also find the 668B bit too bright/too harsh but depends on the music listened to I guess
But I'm still okay with that cos I hear lots of details now.. plus how bad a song can be too if you ask me! blink.gif brows.gif

Yes, i love the details too.. Especially when playing dark blues/jazz songs. Its outperforms my IE8 as it is simply too dark. Also, it's soundstage wins over by a huge margin. However, singers such as Olivia/Fish Leong where their voice are crystal clear to begin with, sometimes will become a little too harsh esp. the highs....

Not the headphone's fault at all. It is just doing its job.
Many Chinese pop songs aren't recorded & mastered with great care, so they sound harsh.

And a lot of those artistes aren't actually that good a singer themselves. What you are hearing is their voice reaching the limits of their capability... especially some of Olivia Ong's songs. OMG! I totally can't even listen to it on 668B---everything is just wrong: sloppy pronunciation, weak voice, fake falsetto on the trebles, and a million other little details that annoy the sweet bejeezus out of me. How is it possible for her to ruin those great songs?

She's damn lucky her bossa nova songs are all superbly arranged and very good songs. Nasib baik I can still put her album on my parent's mediocre home system, where she sounds absolutely fine. sweat.gif
