Thank you for the info. I am still a noob.

If the difference is more 10 to 20%, is it worth to buy from grey. Is buying from grey also lose the service support from the local authorized service centre?
*
all depends if this grey is reputable.
so long it is not a fake and serial number is still intact local authorize service centre will still service/repair your watch.

I thought boutique in Pavilion was giving 15%? That was what I was told when I enquired about the Mark XVI and Portuguese Chrono last month.

Not an optical illusion but simple real estate. The guy cannot wear anything larger than 36mm. The lugs are jutting out from beyond his wrist instead of following its curvature.

Sadly my DNA has pretty much sealed me in the slim wrist category I'm afraid.

consider buying the IWC portofino automatic (new one just launched 2 months ago)

thinking of also getting the bracelet instead of leather because the bracelet design is unique.

what are the sifus comment? good watch to start with? entry level?

this is my first big watch purchase, previously owned rm300 seiko tongue.gif

this? if so this is the 1st IWC (IWC Caliber 35110) which is base on Sellita! the older is base on ETA 2892. SW 300 is a clone of ETA 2892. no display back from my understanding. imho I rather go with a Zenith Elite for the price U'll be paying

Beating inside this beautiful watch, is the well-known IWC Caliber 35110 automatic movement, which, to my knowledge, is based on the Sellita SW300 self-winding ebauche

sifu patryn, appreciate your feedback. now you've got me thinking again!

could u elaborate why u recommend another option based on the price i would be paying? is it because for that price, IWC offers a watch which has lower "specs" compared to others in that price range?

to be honest, i don't understand all these ETA 2892, Selita, IWC Caliber 355110...they sound like Da Vinci codes to me! I've never been a watch enthusiast before! sad.gif

I wouldn't say it is lower specs.
with a well marketed IWC, U are contributing to the marketing.
IWC used to buy their entry level watch movement from Swatch Group and have them modify them to their specs, much like Longines. Other company such as Ball, Tissot also get to buy their movement.

ETA 2892 patent has expire and Sellita is a new movement company making the same movement but giving it a different name. Some ppl question their quality but it is a cheaper alternative to ETA (Swatch Group).
Sopord also make movements but they are not clone.

usually ETA 2892 are supplied to big brand name such as IWC, bell and ross, Bulgari, Omega sometime Ball get them too.
they maybe mass produced but many big names modified them to their specs, how much changes took place in most case very little.

some watch enthusiast go for manufacture movement, brands such as Rolex, JLC, Zenith, Girard-Perregaux, A Lange and Sohn are manufacture.
They do not buy movements from Swatch Group what they do buy are generally hairsprings and shock absorbers.
not all manufacture movement are great, however the above brands have proven manufacture movement.
to go into the biz of making manufacture movement is costly, heavy cost of R&D is involved.

Zenith EP maybe 1 of the most famous chrono movement (high speed too). Rolex Daytona uses the movement for ~10yrs b4 coming up with a inhouse replacement.

nomos - a brand not well marketed makes inhouse movement too. movement are usually well decorated. U are getting alot of watch for the money.
there are alot little things they do to make it distinctly Glashutte (not just German)!
ie
http://www.nomos-store.com/en/Watches/2000...-indicator.html
http://www.nomos-store.com/en/Watches/2000...ystal-back.html

it really depends on U. When U get a watch do U want your friend to go wow (plain show off) or U happy when U you learn to appreciate the work they put in. or combo or reasons.
