COSC is overrated. My quartz Seamaster runs more accurately than my COSC Submariner biggrin.gif
My Speedy is non-COSC as well, no issues on accuracy (although it being a manual, it rarely runs more than 2 consecutive days).

Personally, I feel that all these accuracy issues are secondary. First and foremost, you should always like a watch for how it looks and how it feels on your wrist. Everything else should come after that.

I know of guys who buy new watches and complain that their new automatic has lost/gained X seconds after Y days. Seriously, who gives a flying rat's behind about a few seconds :S

Don't miss the forest for the trees!

wait.*noobie alert* i have a stupid question. how would i know if my watch wasnt accurate and it ran off by a few seconds? haha
*flame suit on*
*
Reference it against an internet clock and a pc clock I guess? I used to use www.time.gov

Helps if you can hack your seconds hand. And then monitor the deviation over a certain period of time. My Swatch once had a weekly swing from +18s to -40s tongue.gif

patryn33,

I do not see it as an issue, especially if it's a mechanical watch on rotation. With a 44-hour power reserve, you probably have to set the time again once every week/fortnight anyway, hence the time will be correct again then.
But then again, I'm just speaking from my own personal experience and I don't use a winder.

QUOTE
would U get a watch if it is super nice but no way to get the accuracy better to +-20secs a day?
or better yet, today +20secs, next day -10sec, the day after that +15day all random?

for ppl like U that wears it only for a day it is certainly not an issue.
so what is the explanation for ppl that wear it on a daily basis?

Well I did use to wear my highly erratic quartz Swatch (one day +time, one day -time) everyday for 7 years on the trot, but never once was bothered by the (in)accuracy. But it probably helped that the time swings were back and forth and not just in one direction, so maybe that's why I never realised.
Anyway, this is purely personal, but accuracy always takes a back seat when I'm considering a watch purchase. Getting a watch to fit my small Asian wrist, that's the main issue really.

QUOTE
point taken . thanks for the explanation. i saw too many watch salesman tried to lure their customer with automatic wristwatch rather than quartz watch ...anybody can explain more ?

I suppose often time, it is because many people relate automatics to luxury, hence salesmen are able to get better margins tongue.gif
I do feel that there's always room in everyone's collection for a quality quartz - for those mornings where you're in a hurry and don't have time to wind up that auto!

My boss has a beautifully patina-ed 5513 superdome which he restored himself. That one cukup poison man biggrin.gif

But those things cost more than a brand new 14060 sigh.

Just to share. He documented the restoration process. Time to crank up the poison biggrin.gif

He has since found a matching replacement dot for the bezel.

moomoosan,

Get a divecom and use your watch as a secondary timing source man. That's why you have two wrists tongue.gif

ivanswk,

Have you considered the SD 16600 instead? Used ones can be had for pretty good prices I believe. And I personally feel they look less tacky than the DSSD =/

Worth is subjective. Go with your heart. Can never go wrong that way smile.gif

Although I absolutely cannot stand the 6 o clock date window on the cal 1887. Would've been such a handsome looking watch otherwise sad.gif

For 10+k, I'd totally go for the Speedy though biggrin.gif

hey guys i saw a pre-used 2006 Omega Moon Watch (3570.50.00) in pristine condition going for RM6800... i reckon i can haggle it down to 6200-6300rm...

u think this will be a solid purchase? fair price?

I intend to use it as a daily beater
*
Can't go wrong, esp if the condition is good.
I personally feel such an understated, timeless and versatile chronograph for anything under 10 is a steal.

Keep a bottle of polywatch handy at home if you're gonna daily the Speedy biggrin.gif

In general, not recommended to adjust the date between 8 and 4 o clock. This is because the date wheel/mechanism might be in motion then and you don't wanna screw with it while it is doing it's thing.

Advisable to move the time past 4 first, then adjust the date. Applies to all movements I believe.

Also, don't operate chrono pushers while watch is submerged unless manufacturer explicitly states that you can do so.

P/s just saw ck77's post. plus minus 3 or 4 hours is subject to debate. I prefer to play it safe.

He must've seen the one on the 14060 Sub. That thin sheet of metal looked seriously sad for such an expensive watch haha. Of course purists will argue that it is "classic" and "simple" and "less prone to failure". Thank god for Nato straps anyway tongue.gif

Anyway, I believe that Omega too uses SS 316L on their divers.

Haha kesian nando, so much for trying to be friendly and helpful, it never pays I tell ya laugh.gif

Anywho, does anyone know of a good place to look for vintage/used watches around town? Shopping for an IWC Mark atm, still can't decide if I should go for the XII, XV or XVI...

nando,

Saw the Mark XVI over at MWF, but the price wasn't exactly enticing.

Thanks for all the links though. Will check it out biggrin.gif

looking at omegas pref ..coz of the rumoured hike in prices after this month biggrin.gif

Ps. IWC (retail/ pre -owned) under 10k?

That's the Bond you're referring to I take it? I have the quartz one (2221.80) and I think it's a great watch. The blue hue and the wavy dials make it a very interesting watch.
However, the looks of the bracelet is a bit of a love/hate and is not for everyone. It is super comfortable though I must say.

The bezel can be a pain to rotate (especially when dry) but I found it to be easier when submerged. Not sure how it'll be with gloves though. Definitely not as good as the Sub or the PO.

Mine being a quartz, the seconds hand don't always line up with the markers on the dial. Some people are utterly irked by this, some are not.

I do love the hour quick-set feature, makes changing timezones while travelling a lot easier (pull crown to position 1, rotating it leads to hours hand jumping in 1-hour steps).
But that means no date quick-set, and to forward the date, you have to keep moving the hours until you reach your desired date (ie 1 day = 24 steps).

Just FYI, I popped by IWC Pavilion a few days back - Mark XVI was going for RM11k. A used one was recently sold on MWF for RM9k.

Hope it helps. Happy hunting smile.gif

Boss brought his Mark XII to the office today, had a chance to handle it and see how it fits my wrists. Surprisingly, for a 36mm watch, it was OK. Took some getting used to though as all my other watches was 40mm and above.

Feels better than the XVI, but I do miss the crisp dial and the AR coating of the XVI. Decisions decisions...

Hi guys. Wanna to check with you on watch winder, recently I bought 2 automatic watches.. Is that a must to put them in watches winder? If yes. Which brand is good.
*
Not necessarily. But some people like the convenience of not having to set the time on their watches plus all the other associated complications that comes with it.

One school of thought argues that keeping it running all the time induces unnecessary stress/wear&tear on the parts. Another thinks that it is good to keep the parts running all the time to keep them lubricated.

My personal take on this is to wind them up once a month at the very least. Also, I find enjoyment in winding my watches and can live with a wrongly set date, so it takes like 20-30 secs tops for me to get a watch up and running.
Besides, since you only have 2 auto watches, you should have no trouble rotating between either to keep them constantly wound?

I heard that Wolf Designs and Orbita makes good winders.

Its Friday afternoon, so maybe i am allowed the leisure of day dreaming...

if I have endless supply of cash....i think the theme of my collection will be complications......JLC, Pateks, IWCs...busy dials, the more complicated the better.....moon, PRD, perpetual, date, chrono, 2nd time, etc, etc, etc..

i sometimes wonder..if one of them malfunction, how much will the trip to AD for repair will cost...

Nando, you better have a large enough winder to keep them all running. I'd hate to have to re-set a perpetual calendar or a moonphase heh.

Too much. I think it was about 16 or 17. But it was definitely gonna be a keeper for me so I took the plunge.
