Well the result slowly but surely improves under KD. Only mistake in defending corners and unlucky strike denied us 3 points. After Blackpool game, KD demanded improvement in final third and the players responded positively especially in the first half.

Btw is Meireles the best player to take the corner? I think he is better stay in the midfield to capitalize on loose ball and unleash his thunder bolt.

I would sum up the performance tonight, 2 sloppy defence cost the game.
Unchallenged header on 1st goal
CB out of position on 2nd goal.

Skrtel is very shaky this season, rarely win header in the penalty box during opponent corner time.
Krygiakos is average in defending.

If Carra not coming back soon, a CB is needed in the transfer window, Agger is too injury prone.

Changing the CB during half time, straight away conceded 2 goals. sweat.gif

Good thing, more football play on the ground.
and Kelly know how to send thru pass to Torres, this is something missing quite sometimes.

if you just want to support the team during their ups and keep on complaining while they are trying to regain their form and confidence, plus your constant banter for "beli la pemain yg bagus...kalau x boleh beli xpayah tukar pemilik hari tu..sama je" BS, then you're better off supporting those mega-rich clubs(i.e. City, Chelsea, Man U etc) geez...

back to the game, Our defense was ripped apart the moment agger left the field. poor defending by Skrtel costs us the 3 points today. He's way below his best, most probably negative football that's being employed for the greater part of this season affected his confidence level. I still have faith in him and in KD to instill confidence back into Skrtel so that he could perform to the level that he used to be. Kelly on the other hand has been doing his job quite well, and his overlapping is quite promising. A great prospect for our future.

On the engine room, while we have a bunch of dynamos in our team in the form of kuyt, meireles and lucas, today's game clearly shows that we are lacking in creativity. we can't keep on depending on gerrard for some dose of creativity. and both maxi and kuyt, they should stop trying to dribble past defenders at all time. a simple 1-2 passing will do much better in this kind of physical game.

Upfront, Torres finally looks hungry for goal, something amiss from him for most of the first half of this season. He fights for the ball upfront, he closes down the opposing def almost all the time, and his touches, almost at his best. with better support from the midfield in supplying quality ball up front, he could be back into his scoring self.

Looking at the games ahead, I'm still waiting at how the current team would play with Gerrard and Carra commandering them with KD at the sideline shouting instructions. The players need to take one game at a time and regain their confidence.

p.s. am thinking, how would KD utilize Joe Cole? somehow, I do have this feeling that negative football during RH's time put a limit on Cole's efficiency upfront. who knows..

he never try to head the ball, only wrestle with the opponent and not dangerous at all during offensive corner

Our defense is pretty bad...I think our defense is worse than Wolves' when Carra or Agger is not around (esp. Carra)! Very bad marking and awareness in the box...I've supported Liverpool since about 10 years ago but I've never seen our defense so shaky and lack of confidence to win headers. Everytime Everton take a corner or free kick my heart is pounding...

No wonder we are terrible under Uncle Woy, he's trying his best to play a defensive approach with counter attacks and long balls/hoofs....but our defense is the one causing all sorts of problems to ourselves and losing confidence in the process.

I think all the other EPL teams will know how to break down our defence...by simply delivering high or long balls with or without set pieces. Sigh...we need to get a CB fast. Agger has issues with his injuries and if it continues, It will not do us any good. We were too reliant on Carra's shouting and instructions, and hell break lose when he's not around.

Skrtel still doesn't seem World Class to me, I've seen him day in and day out...and he's just an average mistake prone CB. We could get rid of him or injury prone Agger and get another proper CB please. Someone who can shout and command in case Carra isn't around.

In our attacking department, things are looking not bad. Even when we are missing Gerrard, we still have shots on target and Torres just lack a bit of luck today to nick at least one goal. I hope Gerrard returns and make the whole team stronger by supplying more passes, make more forward runs and open up more spaces for the others.

No need to further elaborate on our defensive frailties I see. We just collapsed in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half. Skrtel in particular has been looking out of depth in the heart of our defence. He had a good first season but since then, has looked distinctively average. Now Skrtel isn't a small bloke at 6' 3" but he seems to have lead in his feet and isn't as strong in the air as one would expect of a bloke his stature. He looks increasingly uncomfortable dealing with players who dance over the ball as well. Daniel Agger on the other hand I can see staying. King Kenny clearly sees the importance of having a centreback who is composed on the ball and can build from the back ala Alan Hansen. It's just a matter of finding him a defensive partner to complement him. No wonder Kenny's looking.

All in all, I have to say that it was a good derby game despite us dropping 2 points. We had chances which we failed to convert most notably Torres smacking the ball of the post, Kuyt missing the follow-up and Maxi hitting his volley straight into the arms of Howard. I think Phil Dowd did an excellent job last night so props to him. Derbies aren't easy to officiate and I think he was fair and clean in all his decisions. Props to him especially after Mr. Webb's poor outing in our last match.

I just have to give credit to the young lads as well. Jay Spearing hasn't played too many games this season but he took to it like a duck takes to water. He gave away a cheap ball at the start but other than that, had a spotless game if you ask me. I can't see why he's been shelved for Poulsen all this while. Maybe it's because he is a local lad that Kenny chose to start him but he repaid the gaffas faith in him with interest. Anyone remember that full blooded challenge he made on Leighton Baines was it towards the end of the second half? Here's a tiny guy (he's only 5'6") that plays with a giant heart and with his inclusion, not since the mid 80s have we not fielded at least one local lad in the Merseyside derby.

Jonjo Shelvey did well coming on late and showed a lot of maturity in the way he played his teammates into space. He clearly has a creative mind and I think its only a matter of time before he blossoms and plays for the England U-21s. Lets not forget that he is only 18 years old at the moment.

The best performer for me however was Martin Kelly. A natural centreback but playing at rightback, you'd think that's where he starts each game for the ressies. He got forward well and unlike certain fullbacks who forget they need to defend, he is a pillar of strength at the back as well. In the opening 10 minutes he beat Feillani in the air, and that doesn't happen often. In the game against the mancs, Fergie clearly wanted to take advantage of the fact he was raw and played the ball down our right flank frequently only to find a formidable opponent in Kelly. It was the same last night and as much as Kelly got forward, he got back when it matters. Lets not forget that he's 6'3" but did you see the legs on him as he raided Everton's left early in the second half? He got by 2 defenders before reaching the byline to play a cross him. Heck with him an Agger in the centre, we'd have the quickest (and certainly not the smallest) central defensive pairing in the league.

Ah well, a frustrating result but a good game nonetheless.

Progress of Aquilani. Caution with the sound though. You might want to lower it down a little.

Spearing did well last night, some of his tackling was very rigourous (but fair).
Kelly was good in the first half but he was left a bid exposed in the 2nd half when Everton had more possession.
Jonjo impressed with his passing when he came on.

Lucas impressed me in his deep-lying role. He just needs to toughen up a bit.

Might as well salvage something from this season & play the young boys including Wilson & Pacheco. It would be worth finishing mid-table if some young came players came through to the starting 11.
