Faster (2010)

Here's the sad part - this is another downfall for The Rock.

This movie ain't "FASTER"... it's S-L-O-W-E-R and completely one too many unnecessary plot fill-ins...

What to expect from this movie? Well, it is a revenge film... but one that ends so sadly, from a dark and gritty cold revenge to... hope?

Seriously, Hollywood just don't understand what the audience wants... or its the script writer that do not understand what we want.

The action here is terribly minimum - you get to fill in on a S-L-O-W ride of why The Rock gets revenge, who are the people he wants to take revenge upon and... why is there even an assassin with an ego trip?!?

This is not a come back for Dwayne Johnson on action genre... this movie just fails.  doh.gif

Rating:- 2.5 out of 5.

I like this movie even the pace kinda S.L.O.W..but at least not like Drive Angry or some other movie juz boom here boom there..at the no story to tell juz a popcorn flick movie

True Grit

It starts of with a bang, ends with a flash. Spectacular performance by Hailee and Jeff in this one. Worth the ticket price alone. Josh Brolin, TOTALLY UNDERUTILIZED.

The Fighter

Christian Bale deserves his win alright. Scene stealer in every one of them. Melissa Leo also deserves for her role. Too bad Marky Mark was still not up to par.

[●REC] (2007)

One of the best movies i ever saw, and definitely best horror flick. While it maybe similar to Paranormal Activity, it's much much better. Its movie-making genius in various aspects. Definitely A MUST WATCH. The movie is Spanish though, but don't let that stop you from watching it, get the dubbed version or at least with subtitles

Last 10 mins is the scariest I've ever felt watching a movie.

1. Black Swan

9/10 - Definitely a must watch and definitely one of the best movies in 2011 (and its still early in the year). Superb acting by Natalie Portman and superb portrayal by both herself and the movie itself.

2. The Fighter

8/10 - This movie definitely felt real. Nothing was over the top. Christian Bale was really good in this. Look at all the muscle he lost. haha... Marky Mark, though one of my favourite actors (he's not great, but he's okay) still gave his usual 'average' performance.

3. The Kings Speech

8/10 - Brilliantly told story. Well-paced. Not for those who doesnt enjoy long scripts and dialogues. Witty and serious at the same time. Who knew a movie about a stuttering king could be so good.

4. Fight Club (yes, i know, i slowpoke)

8/10 - Superb movie. It is fun in its own way. Slightly Mindf*ck. Great plot development. great acting. enjoyed every minute of it.

5. Youth in Revolt

7/10 - Your typical indie teenager movie. Michael Cera has become somewhat of an indie icon. With his usual role as a dork-ish guy in love with a pretty girl and goes thru shit trying to win her heart. A good and fun watch (if indie is ur thing). smile.gif

6. Date Night

6/10 - pretty sub-par and farfetched storyline. Tina Fey was great but Steve Carrell was kinda annoying. enjoyed this movie but didnt really laugh my ass off.

7. Brothers

7/10 - A sad, depressing and overwhelming movie. The emotion when Tobey Maguire got back from his ordeal was overwhelming. The mistrust, the depression, the hurt. Phew.

8. Hot Tub Time Machine

6/10 - Only worth for a good and mindless laugh. But Good laugh nonetheless.

9. Exam

6/10 - Could have been smarter and better in its presentation, but failed to deliver the killer twist.

10. Dead Poets Society

7.5/10 - It was great how the story tried and succeed in developing each character to a certain extent. It ticked all the boxes in the emotion department. Great movie, definitely.

I know the bluray rip of Black Swan is out, I just watched it again last night, but I really suggest watching it in a cinema. I know there probably isn't a big hall anywhere in the country showing this, but you can catch it in GSC Pavilion- small hall, but the screen is pretty big, and unlike all other GSC/TGV cinemas I've been to, the Pavilion GSC has excellent picture and sound quality. The picture isn't dim.

Watch it in a cinema not because it loses its effectiveness on a small screen (I can assure you it's still every bit as powerful at home), but because Black Swan is one of the finest cinematic experiences I've ever had. From the mesmerizing opening dance sequence filled with foreboding blackness, to the jaw-dropping, head-spinning, soul-crushing final 30 minutes, this film will grip you like no other... provided you give in, provided you are willing to... lose yourself in it.

The following may contain small spoilers, and I recommend not reading until you have watched it.

The plot isn't that much and could be called perfunctory, but what Aronofsky does, how his darting, stalking camera pulls you right alongside Nina and right into her psyche... what he does with human flesh and skin looking so vulnerable to being violated in a very evil manner... and the insane images that manifests all about the film... my god. A long as you're not occupied trying to discern what is real what is not, and accept that it is the intention of the director to keep things blurred, to make Nina's experience yours, it is impossible to turn away from it.

And I can assure you, when the finale finally reaches its climax, you will be so utterly transfixed by what is happening that I could set fire to your dog next to you and you wouldn't move. I was watching this last night and the music (which is f***ing brilliant) was so loud that my mom was yelling for me to turn it down, and I didn't move a muscle. In a way, Requiem for A Dream has a similar effect, but while that finale was singularly bleak and destructive, Black Swan's finale moves in two opposite, incongruous directions simultaneously. You know it's going to be a crushing ending, but you also feel... glad for her. It is STUNNING.

Yeap. A masterpiece.

Sorry if I hyped it up too much, but that's how I feel.

The Tourist [2010]

plain stuff.

weird nomination on last Golden Globe Awards (Musical /Comedy)

Funnily, if u all watched our own Malaysian movie Belukar [2010] (Daphne Iking, Bront Palarae), u'll find the storyline are very identical. totally co-incidental certainly..

Ever After (1998)

Next to Princess Bride, I believe this is one of my most watched movie...

Drew Barrymore deserve some kind of award for her role here.

Also interesting this is Dougray Scott first feature film...

Interesting how he gets pass over for roles like Wolverine and James Bond!!

Retelling of the Cinderelle tales but with women power!!

I cannot find any fault with this movie

It is perfect as it is, acting, script delivery!

If you love a story driven drama movie with a dash of comedy, by all means give this a try!!

You Will Meet A Dark Tall Stranger [2010]

star studded British comedy-drama film (Antonio Banderas, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, Gemma Jones, Freida Pinto, and Naomi Watts)

similarities are far fetch, but this film kinda remind me of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, maturer version.

not as good as i expected, but i can assure you its not boring stuff. the pace are good, the characters are colourful though the story are cliche. 6/10

Still, a bloody wonderful double feature from Darren Aronofsky. rclxms.gif Let's enjoy before he may do a potential turkey in "The wolverine" sweat.gif

^i read somewhere, The Wrestler and Black Swan are actually an idea for single film. a couple of wrestler (considered as lowest form of performing art) and ballet dancer (considered as highest form of performing art)..

both great films. Black Swan are definitely better, but if im given a choice to re-watch it again, ill pick The Wrestler..

The Chronicles of Merong Mahawangsa (2010)

I rarely watch Malaysian movie period. The last Malaysian movie I had watched was $ellout. Something has to be said about the marketing for this movie, it had done enough to peak my interest.

I am pleasantly surprise.

Very surprise that with a budget of RM8,000,000 the amount production quality appearing on screen is staggering!!

Please do NOT compare this movie with USD100 Million movie. It is NOT a fair comparison. A more fair comparison would be to compare this with a high budget Thai or Singapore movie, and it does shine.

A word of caution, it is a pretty "bloody" (literally) movie. So might not be suitable for young'uns...

In short I found it entertaining, and from that point of view, it fares well.

For serious history buff, please note, if you don't pick it, you'll enjoy the movie better. (Actually, I did less history picking in this movie, compared to movies like The Mummy and Mummy Return!!)

And there as some blatant boo boos in the movie (please refer to spoiler)

There are certain scenes in the movie that is actually the throw back to old P Ramlee movies!! And THAT is NOT a bad thing!!

Impressive, IMPRESSIVE work KRU. More please?!

If you want a locally produce movie that is highly entertaining, here it is!!

Apart from both lead characters willing to die for their respective art, Black Swan and The Wrestler couldn't be more different. One is a film utterly reliant on acting and devoid of its own character, the other a perfect balance of bravura acting and the director unleashing his full insane vision.

Le Concert [2009] aka The Concert - French

a former Russian top orchestra conductor working as a cleaner at the concert hall where he once directed. one day, he intercepts an official invitation from the prestigious French music hall. he assembles his old pals musician and try to re-live his dream in Paris.

its pretty good movie, powerful music and nice bit of comedy (though im not fully understand the jokes because its in French and Russian). i give 7.5/10.

This isn't POTC alright, but this is certainly a LOT better than the movies. Very fun, not so kid friendly but fast paced and very punchy. Recommended! biggrin.gif

World Invasion: Battlefield L.A. (2011)

Watched this on Wednesday evening and was total a zombie for the next two days... (old already... *Sigh*)

Please note that I really REALLY like Aaron Eckhart's works.

Notice him in Erin Brockvich (2000)

Always though he would make a good Thor.... Cest La Vie...

Okay back to the movie

Yes, if you play first shooter game and get nausea... this movie is NOT for you.

Think Clovefield (Not as bad), Paranormal Activity or last Exorcist.

Would like to add, the above are exaggerations, but you get the idea.

I'm never a fan of war movie. I usually avoid them like the plague. There are exceptions, namely Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan.

The reason I went to watch this movie is the war is with Aliens, not human and the Aliens started it.

This movie is exactly the movie Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise avoided to do, while they made War of the Worlds

I'm not sure if there are "persuasions" from certain quarters in American for movies makers to "justify" the wars that US is involve in.

On an international stage, the wars America had been involve in the past few years, aren't seen as "justifiable"

So, in short this is a feel good war movie?!?

It is entertaining, no question, just not sure if I like the "America can do no wrong" message being shove down my throat....

Bring medication for nausea and lozenges people.
