Damping Malam (2011)

And again, another Malay movie that did not live up to my expectation.

5/10.

Paranormal Activity 2

To quote my GF, "As Shitty as Shit".

Overuse of sound to give frights. Too much overuse.

4/10.

Khurafat.

Too much technique on "Calm before the storm". Over reliance on sound. No chemistry between husband and wife. plot holes as usual. And sorry guys, Liyana Jasmay is still kayu here in this. Syamsul lagi bangang.

2/10.

You shouldn't be watching Green Hornet. It should really be Kato and the Green Hornet as it was. The name title means a whole lot.

And here we have Seth Rogen being supremely annoying. Never have I thought he would go to this length to be annoying. Its totally unbearable.

Here's a Mix malay and Chinese Guy doing A chinese Movie review and No Strings Attached.

Mr. And Mrs. Incredible.

Aside from a typical flat movie at the end, the ticket price was worth it to see the chemistry and bond between Louis Koo and Sandra Ng. Sandra being bubbly and Louis being charming has always been great for me and truly is a wonderful sight to be seen.

No Strings Attached.

Sigh... Why did Natalie even do and produced this? Flat acting, flat performance, hampering ending, shots were not right, and music was... wonderfully awkward.

True Grit

It starts of with a bang, ends with a flash. Spectacular performance by Hailee and Jeff in this one. Worth the ticket price alone. Josh Brolin, TOTALLY UNDERUTILIZED.

The Fighter

Christian Bale deserves his win alright. Scene stealer in every one of them. Melissa Leo also deserves for her role. Too bad Marky Mark was still not up to par.

QUOTE(QuickFire @ Mar 7 2011, 09:38 PM)
I know the bluray rip of Black Swan is out, I just watched it again last night, but I really suggest watching it in a cinema. I know there probably isn't a big hall anywhere in the country showing this, but you can catch it in GSC Pavilion- small hall, but the screen is pretty big, and unlike all other GSC/TGV cinemas I've been to, the Pavilion GSC has excellent picture and sound quality. The picture isn't dim.

Watch it in a cinema not because it loses its effectiveness on a small screen (I can assure you it's still every bit as powerful at home), but because Black Swan is one of the finest cinematic experiences I've ever had. From the mesmerizing opening dance sequence filled with foreboding blackness, to the jaw-dropping, head-spinning, soul-crushing final 30 minutes, this film will grip you like no other... provided you give in, provided you are willing to... lose yourself in it.

The following may contain small spoilers, and I recommend not reading until you have watched it.

The plot isn't that much and could be called perfunctory, but what Aronofsky does, how his darting, stalking camera pulls you right alongside Nina and right into her psyche... what he does with human flesh and skin looking so vulnerable to being violated in a very evil manner... and the insane images that manifests all about the film... my god. A long as you're not occupied trying to discern what is real what is not, and accept that it is the intention of the director to keep things blurred, to make Nina's experience yours, it is impossible to turn away from it.

And I can assure you, when the finale finally reaches its climax, you will be so utterly transfixed by what is happening that I could set fire to your dog next to you and you wouldn't move. I was watching this last night and the music (which is f***ing brilliant) was so loud that my mom was yelling for me to turn it down, and I didn't move a muscle. In a way, Requiem for A Dream has a similar effect, but while that finale was singularly bleak and destructive, Black Swan's finale moves in two opposite, incongruous directions simultaneously. You know it's going to be a crushing ending, but you also feel... glad for her. It is STUNNING.

Yeap. A masterpiece.

Sorry if I hyped it up too much, but that's how I feel.

Rango

This isn't POTC alright, but this is certainly a LOT better than the movies. Very fun, not so kid friendly but fast paced and very punchy. Recommended! biggrin.gif

QUOTE(dundermifflin @ Mar 31 2011, 08:36 AM)
watched (and re-watched) some of the 90s last night (and nights before)

Leon: The Professional [1994]
fancy 13 year old Natalie Portman?  wub.gif  damn, she's very talented (and proven today). the girl have odd love relationship with cold looking hitman (Jean Reno) and looking for vengeance against corrupted policeman (Gary Oldman).
love it, very good movie. never heard about this until recently.

The Silence of the Lambs [1991]
watched it in my teen days, and im really appreciate it this time. Anthony Hopkins was awesome.
shame the sequels /prequel are totally disappointing.

The Usual Suspects [1995]
re-watched it. its good for 2nd time. always like Kevin Spacey as antagonist /villain.

The Big Lebowski [1998]
it supposed to be a comedy. its OK at few times, but im not really enjoy it.

On Usual Suspects, the revelation in the end is still one of the best for me in this whole world. biggrin.gif

Limitless

They shouldn't have used this title. It just felt unsatisfying for me in the end. And seriously, opening up 100% of your brain, should actually teach you to be INVISIBLE. Sheesh.

Thor was good fun IMO. Of course, Fast Five does a better job, but I like this as a popcorn muncher.

I would've love for more Anthony Hopkins screentime. And I think Tom Hiddleston does not understand what it means to be Loki. Or is it just not clear to him. Huhu.

Kung Fu Panda 2 (Normal Edition)

Ah... the fat panda greets us back in what he calls the year of Awesomeness. Well, is the movie awesome?

Not so much as the first, but still a good charm. Jack Black still delivers his chops in this one, and we get more of Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen and even Tigress. Standouts however, were the new casts of Gary Oldman and a supremely wonderful Dato' Michelle Yeoh.

Surprisingly, its a good Father's Day movie. and still a fun time with the kids, even if the whole movie downplays abit with the stories, beefs up the action and uses easy to expect jokes.

Still good fun. 8.5/10

Let The Bullets Fly (2010)

Jiang Wen, Chow Yun Fatt, Ge You. No doubt Jiang Wen wanted this to be a brawl of wits and it seems to be a truly fantastic one too. Highly entertaining, funny at the right moments (i have never cringed in laughter when someone uses a curse word as emphasis to a subject laugh.gif), and completely possible in all fronts.

One of the best Chinese Movies I've seen in a VERY LONG TIME.

The only other Chinese movie I felt had a great feeling towards was... God of Gamblers. The charisma Chow Yun Fatt puts in is just astounding.

I even like it better than Hard Boiled.

Sucker Punch was supposed to be some sort of Matrix-esque movie. Which I think worked, but Wanted and Matrix itself did so much better.

Mindless sadly.

50/50 shows how Seth Rogen can be from super horrible to super Awesome. Its a must watch for a very serious subject, being made into a comedy. I even cried in this. haha

Happy to have caught Tsui Hark's Flying Swords of Dragon Gate. A good flick with a nice execution. Its just a little annoying that my cantonese is a little bad and reading the subtitles can be tough to enjoy the whole movie.

Not as awesome as Let the Bullets Fly though. That's fantastic as hell.
