Can't remember who said that every movie starring Michael Keaton is watchable , that's so true. Watched it and i like it very much especially the ending. The funnist line from Michael Keaton "for god sake, can you listen to my direct order for once." rclxm9.gif

BAD GENIUS! (Thai flick)

Gotta admit, thoroughly enjoyed this film !
Can't remember a movie which got me so thrilled and filled with suspense without any of your typical gun-blazing action.

Really intense film, not just about exams but the repercussions of ones action.

I don't know if many people caught on to what they were trying to reflect at the end, where Bank falls to the "dark side", but what he says rings true in how the world works.

Survival Family (JFF'17) - 7/10
What happen if electricity suddenly stopped working for unknown reason. This movie will shows you that. Not exactly will teach you how you survive but we follow a story one of the family without survival skill(like majority of us) surviving their lives without electricity. Kept me hooked.

ReLIFE (JFF'17) - 7/10
Never read the manga or watch the anime but this show was heartwarming and tickling. Actors and actress were very pleasant to the eyes. I heard this is one of the best manga adaptation out there.

I believe every JFF movies are good.... too bad for the timeslot. Otherwise I would have watched all of them.

American Made (2017)

Tom Cruise is an... enigma.

He is in The Mummy (2017) that is Universally accepted as a lemon and than he is in this! (In the making of, you will be amazed at how much attention to detail was taken by Tom and Alex [director] during the making of the movie. And it did not show in the movie)

Which shows you what a risky business show biz is.

Again, like the movie, Nightcrawler (2014), this exemplifies how "effective" and damaging the American can do spirit.

Having a can do spirit is NOT WRONG.

It is the original intent that determines if the outcome is good or bad...

I enjoyed this movie immensely.

May not be for everyone, and have to add again, I enjoyed this movie immensely.

Who would have thought that having so much money, is an... annoyance.

It (2017)

Time, how fleeting are thy....

This Stephen King novel, was publish in 1986.

I read it during 1989, because a friend recommended it.

I don't remember liking it (due to Stephen King's writing style) and was mildly amused by the 1990 miniseries because John-Boy (Richard Thomas) from The Waltons was in it.

Again, I was not overwhelmed with "OMG I luv this so much."

Just watched this earlier, and I am tickled pink!!

Why?

For those who is "used to" my reviews, I do tend to "go on and on" about nonsensical reminiscence. I apologise, if I am reverting to my normal style of writing.

The reason why I am tickled pink in, in the book, the story (when the kids were young) took place in the 50s (about the same time as Stand by Me)

In this iteration (this movie), the cleverly moved forward the timeline of the kid to the 80s?

Again, Why?

I have a feeling, they (script writers) sneakily, brought it to the 80s, because alot of people would remember reading IT during the 80s. So they can relate very substantially, because they live it.

Smart S.O.B.s..... (pardon my french)

All the 80s references, were NOT lost to me, and as I had indicated, it added to my viewing pleasure.

Production Designer Claude Parรฉ did a fantastic job (bringing back the 80s). Same goes to Set Decoration, Rosalie Board.

And of course Costume designer, Janie Bryant.

Script, was great. (I did not appreciate the books going back and forth between the adults and children)

Cast, strong (poor Georgie.....)

And, I totally agree with the R rating. Kids, please do not watch this until you can handle it.

Great Movie and the fact it is horror, heaven....

American Assassin (2017)

There are several ironies in this movie.

What do I mean?

1) Michael Keaton takes an angry young chap Dylan O'Brien (thirsty for revenge) under his wings????.... Batman and Robin much?? tongue.gif

2) Taylor Kitsch, in 2012 was in Dylan O'Brien shoes. In that he was in 2 major big budget movies, namely Battleshio and John Carter. Both bombed in the box office.... After several year of hiatus from big budget movies, he is back in supporting role.... One can only wonder what goes thru his mind.

3) Dylan O'Brien who is second fiddle in Teen Wolf TV series, seems to be even more popular compared with this other cast members. And After smashing his face while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), he popularity seem to only increase!!! laugh.gif

Okay, back to the movie.

For an actioner, it works.

Pacing is right

Casting is good. Taylor Kitsch seems more relax without having the stake of the movies solely on his shoulders.

There are issues

I say this with john wick chapter 2 is definitely best sequel of the year

I don't mind kingsman 3 as long as MV directs again but I think ending with TGC will be better in preserving this special gem hahahaha

love the regular American supporting casts...jeff bridges (true grit remake) julianne moore (assassins) halle berry (that movie wins her Oscar) and channing tatum (never liked his filmography oops)

Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)

Long story short, do I like this movie?

I give it 5 out of 10...

The best thing about the first Kingsman is how non American-centric it is...

The same cannot be said about this...

And then the last scene.... *Groan*

Has Channing Tatum not spoiled enough franchise (G.I. Joe)?

my greatest beef is that they didnt bring up anything that happen during the valentine incident from the first movie. perhaps i took this spy parody movie abit too seriously and had high expectation. totally agree with your rating m8

Just saw Wonder Woman. What's all the fuss about? A pedestrian superhero movie if there ever was one. It plays it so safe, and is basically a less good version of the first Captain America. The other DCEU movies are bad, but most of them have some parts that are at least intriguing. This is almost completely boring from start to end. I wouldn't rate it higher than BvS to be honest.

There seems to be a lot of comparison between Wonder Woman and Captain America

The Wonder Woman comic started decades b4 Captain America

To reduced the comparison, the script writer of Wonder Woman actually brought Wonder Woman appearance to World War 1 instead of World War 2 (as it happens in the comic book) to make a distinction

There are several other distinction although subtle

As I had stated, subtle

I like Wonder Woman, it kinda balance out the male testosterone heavy comic book adaptation movies...

I have no experience with the comics so I'm merely making an observation on the movies. This feels like an attempt to emulate Marvel's success by... emulating their movies. And clearly it worked for DC.

Not for me though. I mention Captain America because it felt closest to that in style and tone. But Captain America had a much cooler retro-futuristic vibe, better villain, better action, shorter duration (I think), all while maintaining an emotional core not dissimilar to WW. CA isn't exactly great but I prefer it over this.

Were most of the positive reviews swayed by the hero simply being a woman?

Anyway, I can't wait for Aronofsky's mother! Hopefully no cuts when it opens here next week.

Think the biggest accomplishment of WW was having Patty Jenkins front and center in the usual sausage party of film directors that operate in the summer blockbuster arena. Prior to her...Kathryn Bigelow only the other female film director that usually associated with having success in the action genre. Not here to point out how good the movie was or not...just a baby step progress in Hollywood giving female directors a fair shot at the big boys table. Perhaps taking chances in female centric projects that can do the equal if not better.
Am looking forward to Jenkins back at doing her own passion project and her older stuff pretty much the dark and disturbing tales of broken people.

Lego: Ninjago The Movie

This movie is primarily catered for Lego lovers as well as kids and, those who're fans of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu series that's been aired on TV since 2012 iinm...

Plot:
This movie gives off the star wars episode 5 vibe right off the bat, where the main protagonist had a huge dilemma in confronting his dad, who's known as the overlord. The story takes a nice shift in breaking the old father-versus-son-till-the-very-end thing, and instead gives us a huge portion of characterization on why the antagonists is the way he is and always been. It's a nice mix of comedy as well as adventure(especially for those that followed the Ninjago series like I do).

And I like the way on how the climax in this story is resolved, instead of the usual plain route where the good guys find a way to achieve a mega superpower to take down the evil, I quite like the idea of the main protagonist uses his ways in order to bring things back to balance without the use of overly-hyped power or strategy.

And last but not least, those who followed the Ninjago TV series will caught up to bits of trivia that ties into the series itself, even though this movie is a spin-off.

The Verdict:
Overall, from the perspective of casual fan, I'd give it a 5.5 out of 10 with the light humor and simplistic storyline. Nice movie to watch when you wanna simply chill. But, as from the perspective of Ninjago fans, I'd give it a 7/10 simply because the way the each characters portrayal is quite different from the series itself, but it brings a fresh new air for the characterization and storyline, overall.

The Book Of Henry

Good god this movie is stupid and weird. The best way to describe the whole thing is "awkward" ---- the dialogues are awkward, the characters are awkward, the situation is awkward, that twist in the middle of the movie is undeserved and frankly, awkward. But worst of all is the ending or rather, the message at end. This movie is basically a whole lot of nothing. Save your time and just read its wiki if you're curious how stupid the story is.
