Bisik Pada Langit (2017)

Simple premise, story revolves around a Malaysian student involved in an accident in Australia and how her poor family particularly her father is coping and anticipating her news on everyday basis.

Not your typical gangster / love story / ghost Malay movie.

Great casts overall, with strong and believable acting.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Managed two movies today, and this is one of them.

I had been looking forward to this and...

I am actually disappointed.

I am not familiar with director Taika Waititi and have to add most issues I have with the movie is due to his direction.

Peeve 01

I understand that Marvel took alot of liberties with theirs original myth of Thor, and this movie is based on Marvel Comics... And If memory serves, I do not remember they deviating SO SEVERELY!! I was expecting terms like the serpent Jörmungandr (which had been reduced to Surtur's [who the heck?] pet), cosmological world tree, Yggdrasil (reduce to a background image) and they even spelt Ragnarok (Ragnarök) wrong!!!

Peeve 02

Peeve 04

Chris Hemworth seems to think that with his good looks and if he acts goofy (funny?), he could carry the whole movie by himself.... WRONG!!!

Peeve 05

What the HECK was director Taika Waititi thinking, channeling James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy....

Peeve 06

Jeff Goldblum'a character... *Sigh*

and on

and on

and on....

Oh, if you want to wait for the mini movie right at the end of movie, there is one and IT IS A BLOODY WASTE OF TIME!!!?!

My head hurts and my two sen...

Geostorm (2017)

Frankly, I was hoping to catch Blase Runner instead, but the cinema I went to was not showing it anymore.... So this is actually plan B...

The master of disaster is back (Dean Devlin), and he has written and directed this little movie, which had at least 3 different release dates... which usually spells trouble...

And in this case the power at Warner were right about trying to fix whatever that is wrong with this movie before the release... And unfortunately, whatever corrections they did... did not help it.

Apart from the bad writing, I think casting is also a huge issue.

Gerard Butler & Jim Sturgess (whom I had never... appreciated, and still don't)? Brothers??? Really?

Daniel Wu (who will also be in the new Lara Croft) looks like he wandered incorrectly into this movie (One other note, did anyone notice Edison Chen wandering incorrectly into The Dark Knight (blink and you will miss him), it was after the scandal and they pulled his credit)

This shows how important the Chinese market is to the American film company now (I did not notice any Chinese company being involved in the production).

Bad writing, BAD SCIENCE. The destruction of Earth.... is getting tired...

And the "twist" at the end... not so twist...

Maybe it is my mood, did not enjoy this...

Happy Death Day (2017)

After the debacle, called Wednesday (25th Oct), my faith in movies, were shaken (not stirred)...

Two HUGE budget movies, BOMBED (for me).

Some time opened up yesterday... And I found myself looking thru the movie ads...

There was a dilemma, watch something close by, or goto far far away One Utama for Bladerunner.... decisions... decisions...

So, at the end, the laziness in me, got the better of me, and I went to watch... this!

And I do not regret it.

This movie is produced by Blumhouse.

It cost 4.8 million to make.

And from an entertainment point of view, ran rings around Geostorm and Thor: Ragnorak....

You do the math...

Story, although borrowed heavily from many sources, the writers were able to make it their own.

They even blatantly state the movies they are paying homage to!!

The twist in the end although again not original, did throw me into a loop for a sec.

To quote Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)

QUOTE
Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.

It conforms to this, for sure.

Casting (no big names) is actually quite good!

And when the main baddie is reviled, it is actually surprising to me!

I have faith, once again, in the media called movie!

This movie had plenty of conflicting tones and it is not what the trailer trying to sell you as. It took itself too serious to a point aping a John LeCarre novel but the premise and set-up just pure boring. I was watching it by skipping one scene after another. If you are there solely for the kicking butts segement think you are ok to start the movie at 45 mins which you have no issue piecing everything together when the movie ends. Clearly not my cup of tea.

Another high quality film from Aamir Khan Productions. You can never go wrong. Great performances from every cast especially from the main lead(the girl who also played young Geeta on Dangal(2016)). About a girl chasing her dreams. About mother daughter relationship. The song sang by her actually quite nice. Touching speech at the end. Aamir Khan appearances added some humors to the film. Recommended to watch before theater end. Best watch with your mother.

The Villainess - The only one action movie you should watch this year.

It does not have the most original premise and by the number you'll be able to predict how and what gonna happen next. The pacing and the actress performance just so damn good and you will overlook the shallow plotline. I even dare wager the John Wick team feeling intimidated. The action sequences is a cross breed of hardcore henry and the raid. It just keep adrenaline pumping especially that jaw dropping opening sequence.Don't buy the HK bluray version as those are the bastard localized version with half plus six subtitle and should wait a bit for the US import with better transfer. This movie just obliterate Atomic Blonde by so many times over and can certainly give John Wick a run for its money.

Ingrid Goes West

user posted image

Storyline:
Ingrid Thorburn is an unhinged social media stalker with a history of confusing "likes" for meaningful relationships. Taylor Sloane is an Instagram-famous "influencer" whose perfectly curated,
boho-chic lifestyle becomes Ingrid's latest obsession. When Ingrid moves to LA and manages to insinuate herself into the social media star's life, their relationship quickly goes from #BFF to #WTF.

Watched this online on the weekend, this movie shows just how fake and manipulative people can be to achieve and live in the idealized situation that they think will be good for them. Which in turns
ends up making them feel more miserable. It's a good movie with a great message, nonetheless Aubrey Plaza's acting in it is really refreshing and good. It shows a lot of different type of person there
is in the world and how each sees social media. It could be time and emotionally draining for some or just don't think it's appropriate.

Throughout the whole movie, i found myself squirming in embarrassment for Ingrid a lot.

A vengeance film. A Diwali movie. From writer of Baahubali I & II. Turns out not as good as I hoped. Bad editing and some confusing screenplay. Excessive MTV music scenes. Vijay is not Ajith Kumar.

Was hoping to read up some local reviews on the amazing Blade Runner 2049. To my surprise there's none here. That explains why the movie flop, it just couldn't draw the crowds.

I've seen this epic 3 times (Std screen, ATMOS and IMAX). In my opinion best movie of 2017 (so far) and 1 of the best sequel out there.

Haha...malaysia tastebud can not lari from capes and tights. That is high art in the eyes of general audiences.

Do agree 2049 is one of the better movie for this year and destined to suffer the same fate of it's predecessor. A very good film that bomb big time, so does a handful of influential masterpieces.

It is one of the best movies of 2017 ... I really like the first Blade Runner movie and the world it envisioned ... among the most influential sci-fi movies ... even played the PC game last time, and had read the short story "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?".

After watching the three shorts on YouTube, BR:Black Out 2022, BR:2036 Nexus Dawn, & BR:2048 Nowhere to Run, I was ready to immerse back in the bleak plausible future world ... and I'm not disappointed at all with Blade Runner 2049. Actings were top-notch & moving, cinematography was captivating, soundtrack was minimal but effective (still wondering how much of Johan Johansson's score was altered, and how much was Hans Zimmer's), sound effects was superb (wanna watch again with a good home theatre system for the LFE rumblings), visual effect mixed with more grounded practical effects were not too jarring, the noir detective + 3-sided conflicts + AI romance storyline was interesting enough ... most importantly, the message and theme of the movie is meaningful for me.

Nonetheless, I couldn't recommended the movie to most people, unsure.gif ... mainly due to the deliberately slow pacing, and the actively churning grey cells required while watching the 2hrs40+mins film. Hopefully though, Blade Runner 2049 will also be a cult-classic and has a huge following in the future, similar to its predecessor.
