watched this couple days back on HBO@astro...

what a pleasant surprise!! turns out to be a pretty good horror thriller with unique storyline...plus great acting by Liam Neeson...

the story is the type that makes you keep guessing until the end--did he/she or didn't he/she???

highly recommended!!

Watched this last night. I must admit, being a movie from a director/writer who did Martyrs I'm abit skeptical knowing that this will be any good considering it's a thriller instead of a horror.

But my god he did it again, manage to turn my expectation upside down with the direction it goes.
GREAT movie!!

Europa Report (2013)

Wow...impressively made movie. Very atmospheric and believable sequence of events for the most parts.

This movie is basically a NASA mockumentary, about a group of astronauts who were sent to Europa (jupiter's moon).
The story is told through spaceships and spacesuit cameras but man...it works so well.
And the ominous music it uses during certain scenes are great.

This is definitely one of the better space movies I've watched.
Highly recommended.

I would suggest against watching this if you're claustrophobic though.

Just finished watching this little gem.
Oh man...what an amazing movie. This movie will make you laugh, sad, laugh again and sad again.
Great music, great scenery, great characters, absurd dialogues and tonally uplifting.
Highly recommended.

I really can't wait to see what Taika Waititi does to Thor: Ragnarok that's coming later this year.
Dude is an amazing director.

Life - Essentially Alien for babies. I think the movie pulled off the concept well, but not quite enough to satisfy those who were familiar with Alien-horror genre.

Good: the alien attack were gruesome rclxm9.gif , all the casts are solid, the ending is...interesting.

Bad: some tracking shots goes on too long while remaining uninteresting, too many instances of "inside" views when interesting stuff were happening outside, not enough alien attack, some inconsistencies and bad editing towards the end.

5.5/10 IMO. Do note that our cinema apparently censored all swear words to get PG13 rating, it's really disappointing.

Similar movie to recommend: Alien, Europa Report, Prometheus.

This movie is tonally all over the place, has inconsistent characterization, crappy soundtrack most of the time and some weird pacing.
Feeling abit mixed at end though. It is actually fun at times and engaging when it plays around with the story from the manga. When it doesn't though, oh boy....
Hard for me to recommend to anyone familiar with the source material, but do watch if you want some Final Destination type of story beat.
4/10
Best part of the movie: L, very well acted by the guy.

The Book Of Henry

Good god this movie is stupid and weird. The best way to describe the whole thing is "awkward" ---- the dialogues are awkward, the characters are awkward, the situation is awkward, that twist in the middle of the movie is undeserved and frankly, awkward. But worst of all is the ending or rather, the message at end. This movie is basically a whole lot of nothing. Save your time and just read its wiki if you're curious how stupid the story is.

What Happened To Monday
Man...that was some damn good fun dumb scifi. Look and feel surprisingly high budget too for a Netflix's movie.
I don't want to describe this movie because spoiling it would take away all the fun, so watch it blind.
The action are damn good and violent, its dystopian setting is intriguing, and best of all is Naomi Rapace --- she is amazing in this.
A solid 7/10.
