JAGGA JASOOS (Detective Jagga) (Hindi) - 6.5/10
This music adventure movie is quite adventuroues from start to finish. Only downside is they overdid the music. Since the main char have speaking problem(in movie), he can only speak while in singing mode. So you would have guessed too much singing can ruining watching movie experience. 2nd issue is fast forward adventure near the end where it suppose to be adventure but get fast forwared by editing method. No surprise there since they run into production trouble and 2 years delay. Movie alright to watch if you can get by the excessive singing. |

Personal Shopper - Shaky premise with amazing performance.
The story and plot just simply don't make sense. Kristen Stewart is a personal shopper for a super rich person who forbid her to try any of the clothing she's buying and yet she has the ability to communicate with ghost. It's this weird character study of a grieving Stewart who wanted to reach out to her deceased twin brother in Paris. Its one random plot point after another. It's not "The Lobster" incoherent storytelling but a pretty well made serious drama that held together solely on Kristen Stewart performance. She got the chops to keep you invested in the tonal shifting execution. There are genuine eerie moment during the text messaging scenes and atmospheric cinematography. More of acting showcase than storytelling. This post has been edited by 6so: Jul 19 2017, 07:39 AM |

War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
Fox is having a great year. And it continues, with the release of this movie... Just on the technical point of view, the "Apes" in this movie, never looked any better!!! The details and facial expressions, second to none. I personally feel this this is the second strong in this latest trilogy (the first being the best) and I do hope they stop here. If you had watch the original movies, you would know that the sequels range between bad and worst. If Fox stops here, this are actually going out with a bang. Having read some of the reviews above, some viewers are off the opinion that this three movies are actual prequels from the original. I have to say, there are some inconsistencies. I like the first two acts of this movie, to bits If they had not done a 10 Commandments at the end, I would have liked the last at as well... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « C'est la vie. If you are a fan of the first two movies, you would love this My Two Sen |

Spiderman Homecoming
8/10 - entertaining, above my expectation, love Tom Holland's character as spidey, the best in my opinion. Comic readers would connect with him well, and there are some scenes that are reminiscent of some of the earlier comic series. Love it. I can't wait for Dunkirk. Watching it tomorrow and will review. 5 star on Empire magazine. This post has been edited by doczane: Jul 20 2017, 12:34 AM |

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)
The name Luc Besson, holds a certain "prestige" for me... Why? Look at what he had done in the past!! The Fifth Element (1997) 1994 Léon: The Professional (1994) La Femme Nikita (1991) The Big Blue (1990) All pretty high up in my "must see" movie list. In an interview he did, he said that there is a story in his mind that has been gestating for many years, that would blow The Fifth Element, out of the water. Am I to assume this is the movie he is talking about? I really REALLY hope not... So Many Issues With This Movie... I will attempt to count the issues... 1) There is paying homage and there is out right plagiarize... Oh goodness, nothing is spared... Star Wars, Star Trek, Avatar... Michael Jackson's music videos!!??!!... 2) Rihanna.... plays... the... comic relief... RIHANNA!!!!! Desperate much????!!! 3) This movie's budget is estimated at €197,000,000, and they cast Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne as leads... Both whose charisma gauge is stuck at 0.... And whose chemistry together gauge also stuck at 0... Who cast this movie???!!! 4) And many MANY more If you think the Wachowski sister's Jupiter Ascending (2015) is bad... Wait until you see this. I am out of the cinema an hour plus, and my head is still spinning about how terrible this movie is... Approach at own risk... You have been warned, kiddies... I don't see plagiarizing just only the rest of the world wasn't familiar with the source material. The French comic book scene mainly are high concept sci fi. Ridley Scott and James Cameron did openly referenced them for their works in their bluray commentary. So not sure your assessment is correct??? |

QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Jul 21 2017, 09:29 AM) Hm.... I knew about the Kurosawa thing... The comic book predate Star Wars. The comic book is so dense with out of the world concept and hard pressed to say who did what first. Fifth Element is a proof of concept for Valerian as technology hasn't caught up to allow Besson to make it back then.I was referring to the Millennium Falcon looking star/interdimension ship I may be incorrect Still quite badly directed Case in point if you think Miyazaki's Valley of Nausicaa is highly original but actually a reinterpretation of Moebius's Arzach. Every single fantasy creations copied LOTR model and GOT is no exception to that. Modern superheroes are copies of Greek gods mythology and the list will just go on and on. So I won't pin on film makers for not being critically original with their works. After all the basic foundation of storytelling is they are copies of one source or another....even the bible. It's all about how the story being told and not entirely it has to be original. Tarantino not ashamed to say he steal his story from elsewhere but he knows how to remix it to become his own thing. There are no facts, only interpretations. Friedrich Nietzsche Vallerian being a bad movie that is a different subject altogether from who copied what, when and how. |

QUOTE(skylinelover @ Jul 20 2017, 10:37 PM) Nope - its not THAT bad - great visuals in 3D - (but not at GSC - try TGV if possible) - the cast is at best, cute in a way.Enjoyed this more than 'LUCY'. Another fan of 'The Fifth Element' - Ruby Rhod and all. |

Unlucky there isn't (jabba dining?, oh well) but Shouldn't have gone out early anyway. There is NO Jabba the Hut with a princess tied to anyone anywhere in the movie.Even for me a non movie enthusiast , feels this not a good show. It's like 80% about hero-heroine relationship stuff 20% everything else 30% hero-heroine stuff 20% endangered alien race stuff 50% zany euro fantasy sci-fi thats cool |

In this Corner of the World <この世界の片隅に> (Jap) - 7.5/10
This anime is tell a story from a civilian view from a corner of the world in a port town called Kure before the historic atomic bombing in Hiroshima Japan. Movie begins at year 1933 and ends in 1945. Waste no time and never a single dull moment this anime is charming and heartwarming. The main char Suzu tickle our heart at times for her forgetful attitude. Film portrays a lot of tradition family routine without much technology back then. During the middle the war planes started to dropping bombs. Anyway make no mistake that it's Japan who hurt others first before the world united dropping the atomic to end the war. |
