Pirates of Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge - 6.3/10
I didn't want to watch this but my friend wanted to so we watched. It was a bit enjoyable. Movie is fun at first but went downhill afterwards. This movie could bombed due to Johnny Depp's recent negative news of his lavish spending.

Resident Evil: Vendetta - 6.5/10
If you've played the game or watch the previous 2 CGI RE movies then why skip this? Main focus is Chris Redfield but Leon is baaadassssss. More cool is we get same release date with Japan.

Wonder Woman (2017)

Wow, DC is literally holding it's breath.

After the critically panned (and have to add, actually money making) Batman Vs Superman (2016) and Suicide Squad (2016) DC need a strong showing for their DC material before their A-Lister movie, Justice League.

Having said that, this movie is vital. If this gets a poor review, it may have disastrous consequence for Justice League (later this year).

So, how is this movie?

I am only familiar with George Perez's comic stint of Wonder Woman.

And it actually started me on my comic collection.

And it is this origins that I am most familiar with.

It was an excellent comic. Imbuing Greek mythos in she origins (prior to that, her origin was word of mouth but George retold everything is gorgeous comic drawing detail).

In that iteration, the Amazon was created using the souls of women abused throughout history and were eventually killed by men...

The goddess in Greece mythos, created the Amazons so show mankind what can be... (eg. peace for all).

And if you remember you Greek mythos one of Hercules' task for Hippolyta belt (and according to what is suggested in the comic, Hercules took advantage of Hippolyta during that task)

After that the goddess not wanting their creation for be abused further by mankind, created Paradise Island (Themyscira) only then did Hippolyta shaped a baby by the beach and the goddesses and surprisingly Hermes put the last soul of woman abused throughout history into the baby.

I understand from Wikipedia, her origins had since been tweaked and it is this latest origins they had used for the movie (I still prefer George's version)

I am going on the record that DC had got this movie right.

The story, the casting the production.... the humanity (the primary ingredient)!! I can find tiny flaws, and have to add, it is nitpicking.

This would not hurt Justice League.

If anything, may even draw more ticket sales for it.

Go watch this.

My Two Sen.

P.S. Breath DC, breath... laugh.gif

Beautiful Accident <美好的意外> - 7.5/10
Basically the entire story at the trailer already. But the key story is after the women went into the new body. This is a very heart warming movie and some funny moments and tearjerking moment after the duration 'expired'. A pleasant good movie. Try not to miss this. This is the best movie for this week.

God of War <荡寇风云> - 7.3/10
If you liked John Woo's Red Cliff then you'll like this. It did not have Red Cliff's 5 hours of epicness but it did hold its own war epic scenes. It has prolonged long final war battles scenes between the Ming soldiers vs Japan pirates something similar like recent Operation Mekong. What are you waiting for?

Wonder Woman - 7/10
For build up and satisfaction ending nothing beats the Japan anime. WW starts good then went downhill at the middle then back up a little at the end. WW only got 2 major actions scenes here.... at war zone and the ending. It felt short though. Shame for torned down villain like Marvel's villain. Still a good warming watch. But you won't feel want a 2nd viewing. Glad it did not have any pre/post credit scenes.

Part-Time Spy <비정규직 특수요원> - 6/10
An ok lightweight female spy movie to watch if you have extra money and time to spare. As usual you will get good looking Korean male and female actors. Else stream or buy VOD.

The Mummy (2017)

Trying to get a unified universe together is not easy...

Just ask DC...

Took them a couple of try, until get got it right (Wonder Women 2017).

Here, Universal is trying their hands at a unified universe "franchise" based on their monster properties.

Technically speaking, this is their "second" try (Dracula Untold 2014, was supposed to be part of this universe, and have since been aborted).

Here is where the confusion for me starts...

Initially, Roberto Orci was supposed to direct, and Tom Cruise is coming on as both lead and Producer.

Alex Kurtzman was supposed to be writer.

Then the musical chair started... Roberto Orci is now a producer, Alex Kurtzman direct (I understand they have a fall out. They are long time collaborator with J.J. Abrams) and Tom Cruise is only the lead...

Putting that aside, with Tom Cruise involved, the stunts in this movie is MIND BOGGLING good.

The plane scene, the car through the woods scene....

Now, if a good movie is only based on stunts work and action scene, this movie will go on and make an obscene amount of movie and bonafide hit!!!

Unfortunately, that is not the case.

The story people, THE STORY!!!

That said this is, they are six writers involved in this. That's right, six!!! Is this a case of too many cooks?.... I don't know. This story is not very good.

For this movie to work, the main villain, Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) has to come acrossed as.... relentless. It is just not there...

Powers not well defined.

So... in short, great stunts, fantastic production quality, not much substance because of the weak story...

As always,

My Two Sen

Let's Go JETS! <チア☆ダン> - 7.5/10
Woila this Jap movie is so good like celebrating. This movie is an example of success story that could rally for those in need of motivation. Based on true events, from small town nobody girls to international fame. Hardwork, teamwork, dreams, and the view from the top of mountain(be champion). Suzu Hirose is just a perfect cast for this role. Her smile and personality in the movie just perfecttttt and irresistible to watch on-screen. Cheerful, natural, beautiful! Let's go JETS!

77 Heartbreaks <原諒他77次> - 7/10
Heartbreaks for 77 times will they get together at the end? This romance drama portrays similarity to real life situations where girlfriend forgives her immature and childish boyfriend 77 times. Any heartbreaks scenes in the movie could be one of your scene in real life. The couple is adorable at times also emotional at times. There's some funny moments also heart warming moments. Watch for some well known HK actor special appearance such as Anthony Wong Chau Sang, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui, Michelle Wai, CKwan, Kara Wai, Gillian Chung, Francis Ng etc. Movie is a good watch for me and surprising another good title added into director's(Herman Yau) resume. Herman mostly made bad movie that did not so suck much but recent titles made him otherwise.

Manage to rewatch couple of Viva La Revolution themed movies that I picked up dirt cheap.
V for Vendetta - Man the movie didn't aged well. The production design felt too staged in a soundstage.Natalie Portman has yet mature to that nuanced performer that you come to know of. Some of her scenes overcooked. Hugo Weaving performance as V is as good as it gonna gets. Having to act under the mask and breathing life to it deserved all the kudos. The story still relevant especially in the era of president Orange. Just that quality did not stood up to time when compared to the golden age of tv shows we are witnessing now.
Snowpiercer - Really do not get it why this movie couldn't be any of a bigger hit. Everything just scream quality from beginning till end. F$#^ Marvel or the present day action flicks for not having the balls to do a proper villain. The bad guys are as stock caricatures you ever gonna get but their threats to the good guys as real as it can be. You only see Ed Harris doing the antagonist act only at the very end and it does not felt shorthanded or cheap. He just destroyed Chris Evans as the hero he supposed to represent. Instant modern classic.
