Guessed as much - I thought it was real life stand-in - the transition of shots from the body without face was so poorly handled.Movies My Movies Review Thread V2, Got a movie to review ? post it here !

QUOTE(+3kk! @ Dec 20 2015, 10:02 PM) maybe, maybe not, but then what strikes me odd is that everyone is going about how amazing it is. I speculate - due to how the prequel trilogy turned out, everyone would lap up ANYTHING that wasn't like the prequels - and I was generally fine with them - John Williams music elevates them somewhat.like the movie, its like everyone had a amnesia and forgot everything about star wars went back and got tickled by it While I laughed a bit here and enjoyed bits of stuff there - TFA is problematic - I really hope EP8 picks up enough to do something substantial. While the characters may travel huge distances, with a massive weapon of destruction - everything felt like the opposite of 'epic'.. Harrison Ford - back in excellent form as Han Solo I REALLY wondered what went wrong in 'Indiana Jones - Crystal Skull' where he looks lost most of the time... Whatever presumed mistake Lucas may have made with the prequels, his input is missed here - I think TFA may have benefitted with him as adviser maybe... |

QUOTE(6so @ Feb 16 2017, 10:23 PM) A Cure for Wellness - A very troubled movie with impeccable visual flair. Been a fan of Verbinski since his remake of 'The Ring' through 'Rango' and even 'The Lone Ranger' was entertaining - from what i've read this would be difficult to distribute locally in theaters - bluray it is then.Believe this is a pretty daring movie who thinks big with story but too ambitious for it's own good. It does not have faith in it's audiences to unravel the mystery on our own. Every one step forward marred by two steps backward. Disturbing scenes that are gorgeously lensed. There are truly hideous uncomfortable scenes given the high class treatment that felt a little David Lynch/Stanley Kubrick. Then occasionally the scenes overstays their course with unnecessary plot deviation. The premise is pretty great but lacks conviction to be exceptional. I will still gladly buy the blu-ray due to the beautiful production design and I like the lead actress and Jason Isaac performance a lot. Dane DeHaan misses the mark for me. Gore Verbinski is a lot like Ridley Scott, even their bad movies still being filmed a lot more better than say your average joe film director. Not sure this will screen locally due to shocking taboo nature of the premise and if they do still worth checking out on blu-ray/vod to avoid unnecessary censorship. Also can see this as a potential cult hit if one to seek out that controversial plot twist. It's a malformed shutter island-esque type of story. Agree with your statement on Ridley Scott - i loved the 'The counselor' - universally bashed - and i look forward to repeat viewings. David Fincher should really have been the choice for this - based on what he did with 'se7en' and 'the girl with the dragon tattoo' - his treatment of 'a cure for wellness' would've been interesting - we can only speculate and imagine. |

QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Mar 31 2017, 12:36 AM) Ghost in the Shell (2017) Hmm - very surprised with all the things you mentioned they did wrong - it still gave you the wow factor - at least you were entertained somewhat...?This... is maddening. This is very difficult to write. Difficult because it got so many things right and at the same time so many things wrong.... What they got right The production of this movie is OFF THE CHARTS (with a budget of 110 Million dollars) There are two previous movie that gave me this "wow" factor, namely 1) Star Wars (1976) (Now known as New Hope) (George Lucas coined the term Used Technology) 2) Blade Runner (1982) (when it first released) Now this movie used the concept of Used Technology to the next level! Bravo!! The surprising representation of the character Aramaki (by Takeshi Kitano a veteran Japanese actor) wowed me. Kuddos!!! What they did not I will be crucified for stating this, Scarlett Johansson. I am very sure alot of you went to this to see her. I just thought she was so... awkward here. I don't think she was quite sure what she was doing and it shows. I never read the original comics. My introduction to this material was thru the animation Ghost in the Shell (1995). So many of the action sequences in the animation ran rings around this live action movie. It is like DAY and NIGHT!!! Meaning there is NO COMPARISON.... And another signature of the animation is the soundtrack. From the first frame, the very unique soundtrack grabs you and never lets go until the last frame... If I use cognac to describe the animations soundtrack, the soundtrack of this is.... drain water??? They did use the original soundtrack at the end of this movie, and again very diluted and too little too late... So, this movie, is a disappointment... Just my opinion My Two Sens I thought the casting of Scarlett was very off-putting the first moment I saw her in the poster - confirmed my misgivings when I finally saw the trailer - awkward is an understatement.. Just judging from the trailer, I thought the hand drawn animation was miles ahead of whatever live action they can conjure. And you mention the music here is drain water?... they couldn't even get that right?? And.. don't you think the giant screen billboards on the bright neon buildings was homage/rip-off from 'Blade runner'? - they looked familiar.. |

QUOTE(skylinelover @ Jul 20 2017, 10:37 PM) Nope - its not THAT bad - great visuals in 3D - (but not at GSC - try TGV if possible) - the cast is at best, cute in a way.Enjoyed this more than 'LUCY'. Another fan of 'The Fifth Element' - Ruby Rhod and all. |

QUOTE(ali_xpdc @ Jul 21 2017, 11:56 PM) I swear to myself ill gtfo from the theatre if there's a jabba the hut and princess leia tied to his leg kinda scene . Unlucky there isn't (jabba dining?, oh well) but Shouldn't have gone out early anyway. There is NO Jabba the Hut with a princess tied to anyone anywhere in the movie.Even for me a non movie enthusiast , feels this not a good show. It's like 80% about hero-heroine relationship stuff 20% everything else 30% hero-heroine stuff 20% endangered alien race stuff 50% zany euro fantasy sci-fi thats cool |
