Life - Adequately made but not memorable.
It's a very safe movie that didn't make an effort to push the genre forward.Reasonably well acted, enough of stars power at play and pretty ok film direction.Just the premise already been seen many times before. At the end everything falls into a death roulette game with Kelvin. The twist at the end also felt on the nose.

King Arthur something something...
A franchise that nobody asked for and yet being forced upon us. Guy Richie pretty much more misses than hits ratio type of film director. In his filmography only the first two ones really good and the Sherlock Holmes films also pretty decent,
as for the rest just one disappointment after another. Thought they are going somewhere with Guy Ritchie-ing the fast paced rapid scheming moments and yet nothing came out of it. It just unable to be more than your usual fantasy cliche made for China market where the good will triumph over the evil with all the same old story beats.

King Arthur: legend of sword. Things happen too fast but generally it is a good movie. It is so excited and the visual effects are so good.

Okja - The lovable superpig.
Overall this is an uneven movie. There are three phases of structure that concocted in this odd mix of tone. The first act you get the effortless Hayao Miyazaki moment between the girl and the pig which was magically realized. When comes to advancing the plotline it shift gear to a screwball mad cape rescue mission. The last act just got dark and depressing a little. It's quite messy but the creature cg work very believable to a point you almost wanted to excuse the flaws in the movie. It's above average watch and pretty sure Disney will not have the guts to explore the themes in the movie. Try not to watch this with your children cause you will need a lot of explaining when the slaughterhouse segment plays out.

Transformers: The Last Knight(2017)

Review:
let me get this straight, i'm not from G1 era(unfortunately), but i've got a fair share of experience being a transformers fans too, especially transformers: Prime the animated series. now take all of that aside, this movie is totally disappointing, compared to part 4(Age of Extinction). and even then, AoE is already the worst in this franchise, so saying that this is better than the 4th ain't gonna mean too much improvement either....

In terms of plot, i initially thought that this movie gonna have more than what it actually had, in terms of story wise.. Remember back in Dark of The Moons, where things get serious real quick because the resurrection of Cybertron may mean the doom of Earth, and that things were really really heavy at the last act where majority of Decepticons invade Chicago and held captives of the remaining Autobots??

Yup, that's the kind of tense atmosphere that I was(at least) hoping for in this movie, but it's all bland... There's clearly no tension at all, the stakes are high, we know that Earth is about to get destroyed by Cybertron if they didn't act fast, but, if you really compare the last act of this movie with DoTM, there's really nothing to focus on in terms of story progression in this movie. And apart from that, there are some interesting lore that caught my attention in the movies where I hoped we would get more out of it(Like how/when did Unicron became Earth, how did Megatron drastically changes his body from AoE, who and how does the Autobots submarine ship looks like), but, Bay just skipped all of it, sadly.

In terms of characterization, well Mark is still the same old Mark, the human characters(TRF and the armies) are just nothing unusual, as expected, but what irks me the most is that, rather than focusing more on Optimus(or the other robots), Bay decided to yet again ruin the film by introducing new children in it. I mean, no offence, in fact, if you were to take a look at few of the transformers animated series, children or at most teens are the one that will be rallying side by side with the Autobots, given great dialogue and purposes, these kids may as well bring some new experience in this movie.

But that's not it, the kids are there without any purposes at all, heck, I don't even remember at which part did they contribute their role in the flow of the story. And when it comes to the robots themselves, most are just the same, aside from Bumblebee's upgrade and his final moment in reversing Optimus' role, but what pains me is that some of Optimus' dialogue is just downright cringy. Like just when the Knights are about to slay down Optimus, he said: Cade, they are going to kill me.... Like yeah, no shit Obvious Prime! Seeing Peter Cullen with his iconic voice saying this is just hurting me, Peter Cullen deserves more than that...

Rating:
Overall, after taking into account of bland and weak story-line, unbalanced story pace, little-to-none characterization, somewhat okay CG, I'd give it a 3/10

Battle of Memories <记忆大师> - 7/10
Supposing a scifi thriller but scifi element became backdrop for the story to work. If you like guessing who is the murderer with spin and twist then you will like this movie pretty much. The only letdown is the memory scenes which is black&white. The memory scenes are the key revelation for most part and quite long too. Preferable using other approach than black&white. Acting is very convincing until you guessed the wrong person. Movie is a bit violet but not brutal. Watch while you have the chance.

Okja - 5.5/10
I was excited to learn that this movie from director of The Host, Mother, and Snowpiercer. But after watched Okja is a bit let down due to less serious tone of the movie it's unlike him probably due to Hollywood intervention. The superpig creature although looked quite real but unfortunately ruined by unnatural behavior of the creature.... it felt choreographed. The kid still act like what-typical-asian-kid-will-act-in-hollywood-movie melodydrama disobey angry shout threatening look and so on. Tilda Swinton did not have any memorable scene like she did in Snowpiercer. Overall I'm not quite satisfied.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Sony is now laughing

You know why it is laugh?

It is laughing ALL THE WAY TO THE BANK! This movie is going to make them SO MUCH MONEY!!!!

I never took to Andrew Garfield's Spider-man

Something about his portrayal rubs me the wrong way.

Tom Holland is going to be SO famous

There would be a downside

Remember Tobey Maguire? Exactly.

Well written

Greatly integrated with the Marvel Universe

Casting is first rate (Batman is now... THE Vulture!!?!)

There was a O.M.G. moment at the beginning of the third arch which i literally O.M.G.ed aloud in the cinema!!! tongue.gif Pardonne-moi

Go Watch this

I don't believe I am going to say this... Best Spidey Movie, ever!!!!

My Two Sen

Una - This movie is difficult to watch but very well made.
Oh boy need a drink after watching this. Una is not your standard Stockholm syndrome victim. Her obsession almost reaching fatal attraction level and yet we are conditioned to empathise her knowing she is the victim. Ben Mendelsohn did great balancing on his character's ambiguity. He just can be a snake in one scene and the next totally win you over. At one point he convinced you he had turn over and yet the ending of the movie suggest you maybe not.

Rooney Mara again gave an impeccable performance as a damaged person who hasn't gotten over Ray. The little girl also gave excellent screen presence as younger Una. I can see how people will react negatively to the abrupt ending and yet I thought that's quite ballsy. Any movie and tv show uses PJ Harvey song in my book will automatically foretelling something deep and profound abound.

Zombiology: Enjoy Yourself Tonight (Cant) - 3/10
Probably the worst HK movie of 2017. No surprising looking at the cast and crew. "Bio-Zombie" (1998) remain the most fun HK zombie movie and still unsurpassed.

MOM (Hindi) - 7/10
If Dangal is father's day movie, then this could be mother's day movie. How far a mother could go to protect her daughter. Movie is tackling rape issues in India. But this is like 2 genre in one movie. First half is drama 2nd half is thriller. This movie deserves more attention. I enjoyed this movie. Nice cinematography from the music scene.

Totally agreed with you about MOM . a Mother's Day movie indeed.
Though she is a stepmother but her love for her daughter is as real as her own .
I just watched it yesterday . Sridevi's acting brings out all the emotions on point as a MOM
Her previous movie English Vinglish is also very well played.

House of the Disappeared <시간위의집> (Kor) - 6/10
-A slow paced typical horror(or not) trick without much special effects or makeup only story progressed at the end with unexpected outcome and emotional. Watch only if have time to spare.

Reset <逆时营救> (Mand) - 6/10
-High concept sci-fi material but underwelmed by limited budget but saved by Jackie Chan's supervised action scenes. Could be better.

Doraemon: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi (Jap) - 6/10
-Ever since original author were passed, something is always missing from that point on for every new movies releases. No exception for this one. Just an average adventure.

Wu Kong <悟空传> (Mand) - 6/10
-Bad editing at the begining will make you turn your head away from the screen. But after that it improved a bit. Poor writing also make the story much less interesting. Visual effects just alright uncomparable to Monkey King II but still cool action scenes. Erlang Shen quite cool action once he unlocked his third eye. Too bad his faithful Howling Celestial Dog has no action. They have solid cast but wasted. Watch if you like Sun Wu Kong. I know you did. Stephen Chow remain the best Sun Wu Kong yet.... Aaron Kwok comes 2nd.
