Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)

Well...

I waited 2 year and it is finally here!!

Again the production value is off the charts

Beautiful production. The architecture looks right (not that I am an expert in Ancient Indian Architecture)

And it did not forget to tell a story (Alot of Asian film production can learn from this) and the viewer gets involved with the story telling.

In the first Son Baahubali and in this father Baahubali is the fore.

I was thoroughly entertained by this.

There is a criticism or two

Alien: Covenant (2017)

Oh Ridley Scott...

How can you get so much right and so much.... WRONG!!!

Basically, you took the best bits in the first and second Alien movie and lump them together in this movie...

And have to add

Not even sure why you introduce so many new characters

Back to the good...

Story is decent

This continuous from Prometheus...

Production design is gorgeous.

And have to say what I have placed in the spoiler, well, spoiled it for me....

Bad Ridley, BAD!!!

Ridley Scott nowadays is trying too hard to relive his past glory. Already expected Covenant to be disappointing the moment he renamed it from Prometheus:Paradise Lost while snubbing Blompkamp's project when it was getting hyped.

EDIT: Watched it. Man what a f**kin disappointment. 5/10 for a flat "meh". Should've just renamed it into David: Whatever instead because at it's core it's not even focusing on the xenomorph which also had a effed up life cycle duration. I can only imagine that as more negative reviews appear Ridley will pull the "this is just one small part of a larger story" excuse again.

Shock Wave - 6.4/10
A better Andy Lau movie after a stink of Vegas Macau Milano Wong Jing crap movies. Not really action packed but movie is thrilling and loud explosion and sometimes too sudden boom!

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - 6.2/10
Mild joke and decent adventure. Nice old songs. Not really funny at best just a little jiggle. After watched TFF 'A Gift' few weeks ago which is burst-out lol, this joke is nothing. A better visual overall. I didn't come out with complete satisfaction just like first one.

You Mean The World To Me - 5/10
Movie touted as same league as Ola Bola or The Journey but failed. Not sure lack of budget or what but the story are not interesting at all. Not enough depth and movie is quite sluggish. Hokkien lang probably will watch this though.

King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword - 6.6/10
RT critics are all morons. Limiting themself to Hollywood. We have better movie exposure. If I can shut down that dumb site I would. Movie is watchable despite modern hairstylist.... and probably clothing as well. Music too maybe. Don't worry all Guy Ritchie's movies were all not bad.

A Silent Voice - 6/10
An overhyped anime. 'your name' still better. Just decent.

Genocidal Organ - 5/10
Political anime not my type of anime. Highlighting the tech shown in the movie though. Looking possible to be realized in real life.

Kung Fu Yoga (2017)

Well... What can I say about this movie?...

In 800 A.D. both Chinese and Indian spoke.... English... (baring in mind this is prior to the Western colonization of Asia)...

India is all about Snake Charming, Rope Trick and... cookie cut villainy... *Sigh*

You know what is the meaning of plagiarism?

No??

To plagiarize, you steal other people's idea and call it your own....

Anyone here familiar with Raiders of the lost Ark?

No?

Then you are good.

Otherwise, you are in for.... NO SURPRISE!!!

Oh oh, wait, it is not plagiarizing if you say you are plagiarizing, then it becomes an Homage... 2 x *Sigh*

That is a VERY fine line Mr. Jackie...

This movie has good intentions.... Basically trying to merge China and India's film industry.

The down side it, the material and execution...

Don't get me wrong production value wise this movie is great

It does have it's moments.

Just too few and storywise nothing original...

Shame on you Mr. Jackie...

Silence - The other Scorsese type of films.
Beside synonymous for making violent gangster or troubled character study films....he does make heavy religious theme films here and there. Its his continuing effort to find a deeper understanding in faith after failing to be a Catholic priest. Think at one point he was a drug addict as well. Anyhow Silence in a way is a lot like his 97 Kundun that chronicles Chinese Communist oppression on Dalai Lamai from his discovery to exiling Tibet. It has the same mesmerising pace and the unjust sentiment carefully weave into the storytelling. It's a little letdown for me because it reminded so much of Kundun although the cinematography is more updated with grander production value. Again its mindboggling given Scorsese age of 74 able to pull off the difficult location filming. Basically they are doing what Innaritu did in the Revenant although the weather might be more forgiving. The japanese casting is very good.

T2:Trainspotting - Not as fun as it seems.
Basically great empires can come and go while human nature does not. It's more of middle age fcuk-ups go for one final score to relive their youthful destructive behavior. Only that there aren't enough of fresh angle to explore. It's more like revisiting the greatest album of a forgotten band instead a knockout comeback. All is not lost though, the Spud story arc does pull a lot of heartstrings and many ways the best part of the sequel.
More of a middling end product that could not live up to the promise of the original or just another victim of the sequel curse.
In regardless the sequel fails or not, the original still my generation of Citizen Kane cause it's still the best film I ever watched and not just a movie.

29+1 - 6.5/10
This movie is definitely made for women. It was directed by women as well. Based on info it was adapted from stage play by her own play as well. You can see it while credits roll clip. Movie contain 60% Chrissie Chau and the rest Joyce Cheng. Chau story is depressing as she nearing 29+1 she's falling apart. Cheng story is happier as she led a simpler life without worrisome. 29+ age gurl may probably watch this anyway but guys can also check it out.

Alien: Convenant - 4/10
Ridley Scott himself has ruined Alien. This is NOT an Alien movie. This is a Mayfools joke. Earlier months ago we have this movie called LIFE which is better than this. Thumbs down.

Mad World <一念無明> - 7/10
Touching real-life not only mental illness situations but also some golden age situations. Movie is a bit sad, agony and depressing. Great acting performance. You should check this rare HK genre out.

Colossal - 5/10
Lame movie. Not sure why I go ahead and waste my time on this. Don't bother find out how she can control the monster. The revelation was lame. Not really anything that stands out either apart from the plot that keeping the movie intact. I saved your money.

This Is Not What I Expected <喜欢你> - 7/10
This rom-com movie is juicy delicious. Using food theme to connect those two together. The food will make you glup so make sure you're not hungry. Movie is hilarious because of anti-attract. They're 'enemy' to each other. Movie is sweet joyful cheerful. I just can't skip Takeshi Kaneshiro movie. Bring your partner, friends and family watch this. You'll be rewarded.

Dealer/Healer <毒.诫> - 6/10
If this movie made in '90s then it will have much more recognizable. Not a cop drama. Not a buddy drama. Not a romance drama. Not sure what genre they want to be for this movie. This is not Trivisa. Character is quite underdeveloped. This is about drug user turned good.

Raw - The single best film I've seen this year so far.

Believe someone fainted or puke during one of the festival screenings. To those naysayers who said movies no longer original or no longer imaginative, here is proof of smart and effective storytelling very much alive. To a degree I'm able to read where the story gonna be by the set-ups. Nope not with this movie. The red herrings just delicately done and it keeps coming. You simply unable to anticipate how the story will pan out. The heroine basically a hardcore vegetarian forced to eat a rabbit liver during the freshman hazing activity. From there things just got out of control to an unimaginable degree. No it's not about serial killing or anything like that at all. Highly recommended if can stomach bloody scenes and sexual situations. The lead actress really can act and her chemistry with her sister very convincing.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017)

Truth to be told. I did not want to watched this.

I went to the cinema to watch King Arthur, the the time was off, and this was available so...

The reason I did not want to watch this was because Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) left a bad taste in my mouth...

It was terrible...

Does Disney really need to squeeze ever penny from every franchise they have?...

Supposedly, this movie cost USD 360 million to make... Yeah

And have to add, it actually showed.

IT IS BEAUTIFULLY SHOT.

CGI to the yonkers.

No expense spared...

I told a colleague today, that the last outing of this franchised bombed because of

Now, I have complained about the 4th outing of this franchise bombing. One of the reasons being the bad storyline.

I have to admit, the storyline here is slightly better, and overall, it is... enjoyable.

So, I really do hope that Disney retires this now.

It is a good point to retire. It actually give closure to the whole thing.

This is a pure EYE CANDY piece (CGI)
