Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)

Watched this as IMAX 3D TGV 1Utama.

It is GOOD!

You know what, I thought I kept away from all the hype/news/ads/trailer for this movie, and STILL I kinda sorta know what is gonna happened in the movie...

Why?

I can only think of two reasons

1) In terms of storyline, they stuck to "tried and true" Star Wars lore (so for Star Wars fans out there, you can celebrate)

2) They marketing is THAT good. Maybe ads for this movie is delivered through our drinking water (Osmosis?? laugh.gif)

Joking aside, some parts of this movie is just brilliant and others...

Wait, I am getting ahead of myself!!

The Good

The main casts from episode 4,5, and 6 all returned!

The lack of Luke Skywalker in the trailer is explained.

BB 8 is going to over take R2D2 in terms of robot cuteness.

There is no annoying "Jar Jar Bings-like character"

No over the top LENS FLARE!

The Bad

Kylo Ren really badly developed.

Some parts of the script is just too... clunky! Surprising, since Lawrence Kasdan is involved (Empire Strikes Back)

The Ugly

Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux is totally unrecognizable.

They NEEDED Max von Sydow for THAT!!

The character Rey/Ren names are too similar, and can be very confusing!!

Please understand this is just my opinion.

No matter what I say here this movie is going to MAKES AN OBSCENE AMOUNT OF MONEY!

Another thing I enjoy was, it was VERY clear, who the REALLY fanboys are in the cinema (you hear them gasp, you hear them laugh, and you hear them cry...)

Agreed for the most part. To address your q regarding the fight...

But just to add a bit to the bad side...

Bad
-Finn starts from okay, to great then dropped to dumb joke sidekick in the last act. Luckily he did go back to being okay in the end.

Disappointing
-Not enough Captain Phasma, especially after being teased about how badass of a presense she's supposed to be from interviews.

JJ Abrams is obviously playing it safe by sticking very close to ep4/5/6's formula, which in the end makes for a predictable plot but still enjoyable movie(especially after what, a 30years wait for a good Star Wars movie? tongue.gif)

Ip Man 3

5/10

Positives:
- Great fight, thanks to Yuen Wo Ping
- Great music from Kenji Kawai
- Great drama

Negatives
- Apart from Cheung, no other antagonists had an ending, in fact most of the baddies got off lightly for what they did;

Saw Suicide Squad for free, and regretted it. A terrible, terrible movie by all counts. I struggle to think of any positives - even Harley Quinn was annoying. The Joker was the worse - Jared Leto in ultra try-hard mode and failing. Proves that you really need someone with the right amount of calibre and charm to pull off the Joker.

I fell asleep during the climax. I cannot remember the last time I watched something this bad at the cinema... even Angry Birds was better than this (no, was not my choice to watch).

1/5

Oh they should just get Nick Cage laugh.gif

Coming right after the great reviews all around Train to Busan, you'd think this (animated) movie would be on the same ball park, especially when it had the same director, right?

WRONG!

For starters, the animation, probably rotoscoped, looks terrible. While they did a fine job on getting the characters to look right, the "flow" of each animation frame is just to janky to enjoy it as a whole. It manage to flow worse than the common anime, which is animated on 3rds (24frames per sec, 8 drawn animation frames). Also, gratuitous panty shots all around. Realism? FanService? No idea.

Next, the voice acting for most of the characters are terrible, especially the main female characters whose exaggerated moaning and crying throughout the entire movie would make a A/V star blush. Yeah. The only good voice actors are the one who did the zombies, which does have freaky sounds with their chattering teeth.

The plot, being a simple zombie outbreak movie set as a prequel to Train to Busan, revolves around one girl living a difficult life in the big city as the zombie outbreak happens (nothing regarding the cause of the outbreak was shown; so it just starts), and her daddy who search through hell to find her lost child. Can't ruin a plot that simple, right?

WRONG AGAIN!

Through the entire length of the story, you get to see the characters being actively braindead (if that's even possible) by doing things that makes no f**king sense (eg: not closing the door of a car as you were chased by a zombie before trying to start the car. WUT?). And there are tons of such absent-mindedness until the end.

And the ending, oh wow. I get that sometimes a plot twist at the end of the movie would enhance the plot (ie: Sixth Sense, The Others), but here the twist is so stupid, it practically ruins the movie because it affects the motivation of one certain character to actually go through this sh*t. Hey Mr Director, sometimes a good simple ending works too!

I know most would probably check this movie out, especially after watching T2B. But that's probably what they expects you to do. I haven't watch T2B yet(was planning to watch it in theatres a day after), and this movie manage to leave a bad taste in my mouth that I'm reconsidering to just watch it via *JackSparrow* means. Not a justification for piracy, but just getting a virtual refund for this garbage. URGH.

1/10. And that's for the poor animators who probably had to OT for this.

Life is quite entertaining. 7/10
It's like the sister to Alien, which it take place in ISS instead of Alien's spaceship.
Creature is smart, brutal and a survivalist.
Recommended to watch.

Ridley Scott nowadays is trying too hard to relive his past glory. Already expected Covenant to be disappointing the moment he renamed it from Prometheus:Paradise Lost while snubbing Blompkamp's project when it was getting hyped.

EDIT: Watched it. Man what a f**kin disappointment. 5/10 for a flat "meh". Should've just renamed it into David: Whatever instead because at it's core it's not even focusing on the xenomorph which also had a effed up life cycle duration. I can only imagine that as more negative reviews appear Ridley will pull the "this is just one small part of a larger story" excuse again.

Insidious: The Last Key (2018)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
It's rather hard to do a sequel to Insidious as it goes further when the entire franchise's gimmick so far is to weave the timeline all over the place laugh.gif

That said, it's still open-ended, due to the cliffhanger ending we got in Chapter 2 where spirit Elise enters the house of a new family and seemingly shocked by what was haunting this one girl Allison(whom according to Specs and Tucker brought back many 'things' with her after being resuscitated from her coma) . I suppose the 5th film might be the last since there are no more things to explore from Elise's past (unless Chapter 5 decides to introduce more).

Demon story wise, I don't think they expanded on the Lipstick face demon as well, so hopefully Ch5 will be the ultimate showdown for all unsolved events, should it be the final one.

But overall, yeah. The plot twist was a bit of a let down in 4:

Severely lacking Del Toro's greasy otaku heart, IMO. Didn't like what they did to the returning characters that people actually liked.

Into the Spiderverse

Rating: Why are you not watching this yet?/10

The only cons I could think of is that Peni Parker/ Spider Noir doesn't get more development.

Seriously if you love all things Spiderman, this is the best one ever made. Also, be sure to stay for the best post credits.
