The Wailing - The single best 2016 movie by far.
In short this film willing to be more horrific than Robert Egger's "The Witch". The witch felt like broader kind of narrative movie that just telling the surface side of things, which kinda incomplete IMO. "The Wailing" gives you the full course meal with each passing minute of you getting that sense of plot moving forward as the dread perpetually escalating it. It perfectly captures the metaphor of boiling a frog alive in the way the story being told. The trailer only gives you a small taste of the weird evil stuffs that are head and shoulders to "The Exorcist" and "Seven". It's not just the thrill of watching a potent horror flick but a very well directed one. This post has been edited by 6so: Jul 12 2016, 10:36 AM |

Ghostbusters (2016)
30 years ago, the Ghostbusters were introduced to the world in a movie that became a classic. Those of us who saw that movie in the cinemas then are now, well, how shall I put it? Let's just say we are not that young anymore. So how is this new Ghostbusters? I am glad to say that it is quite ok. The new Ghostbusters is a reboot. It is meant for a whole new generation of movie viewers who were not around when the original came out. It's a new millenium's reboot and I must say the story do parallel that of the original with a few tweaks here and there. Most notably is the team is now all female. For those of you who have watched and loved the original, go in with no expectations and you will be entertained. The jokes are there and they can get a few laughs out of you. The one to watch out for is Holtzman played by Kate McKinnon. She's a riot. The pacing is good and the story flows along smoothly. The special effects are great even if the ghosts do lean more towards looking a little cartoonish but it's fine. There are also plenty of tributes to the original classic thus those of you who saw the original do keep an eye out, ya? The one thing that grates on my nerves is perhaps Chris Hemsworth's character. They made him a ditzy blonde dude instead of a bimbo who got the job as the receptionist for the Ghostbusters. Thing is I do not buy his act for one second! The gals don't seem to mind though. So, what are you waiting for? The Ghostbusters are back and it's worth the admission price! Rating : 3 stars out of 5 (0.5 stars added for nostalgia) |

QUOTE(Mov_freak @ Sep 14 2013, 08:09 PM) Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972) Finished 1st. Now on second Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx (1972) Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades (1972) Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril (1972) Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in the Land of Demons (1973) Lone Wolf and Cub: White Heaven in Hell (1974) Now for something, REALLY different. Director Kenji Misumi will always be know for this series. A samurai turned ronin (a samurai without a master) wonders the country of Japan, helping the simple folks while pursuing his arch enemy, the Yagyu Clan!! The hook? His absolutely cute and adorable young son, whom his pushes all over Japan in a wooden cart. They do not talk to each other, but rather communicate with each other with knowing glances... I have you know, I would have KILLED for a wooden cart like the one in the movies when I was a baby, way WAY cool. Again, please note that this is a VERY violent series, limbs and heads go a flying.... Oh and blood a spluttering... For movies that is 41 years old, the transfer is impressive... They must have kept the masters in a pristine environment!! My Two Sen Good Stuff! |

Ghostbusters (2016)
Hollywood!!! You have GOT TO STOP THE MADNESS!!!! You have got to stop treating men like slabs of meat!!! Let the objectification STOP. What you made Chris Hemsworth (cast as Kevin) go through in the movie is SHAMEFUL. And then the "Magic Mike" moment, come on!!!?! Stop degrading MEN!!!! Oh, on THAT note... Stop the photoshop work. We know that "stuff" ain't real!!! QUOTE If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh? if you poison us, do we not die? I gotta stop, while I can still keep a straight face... Well, this is a dumb, fun summer movie. Not to be taken seriously. More of a reboot rather then a sequel. An MOST (not all) of the original main casts returned for a cameo (Harold Ramis because he is actually dead [would have been fun if he was a ghost... The new leads did an okay job, though I don't think they really "jelled" maybe in the sequel?? As I had stated, a pop a pop corn kinda flick (ran rings around Independence Day 2!!!!?!) Star Trek Beyond (2016)
I am still shell shock about Anton Yelchin's passing... I do not know if they "tweaked" the movie after his passing (I am thinking not), and have to add, the movie started a little melancholy. Quite apt if you ask me. Most of u probably heard over the news about Sulu's sexual orientation and that the movie will come acrossed as... I am assuming here, too gay. It is not. The situation was handled... matter of fact-ly. I m also sure some of you (like me) were concern that the movie would be too fast, too furious... It is not. They really got the chemistry for the three lead (Kirk, Spock and Bones) just right (with a dash of humor). The hook for the villain's kill move is deadly and is more then a challenge for Enterprise » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Overall, a pretty good add on to the Star Trek franchise. And at the end, it hits you again that Anton is no longer with us (along with Nimoy) How fragile, life is... Am curious how ther resolve Chekov's character (now that JJ Abram has said he will not recast) in the future movies (and there will be future movies) My Two Sen |
