The Boy (2016)

Okay. This is something different.

Firstly, there is alot of drama in this "horror" movie.

And frankly for a "horror" movie, way TOO much drama!!

Greta Evans (Lauren Cohan) is an American running away from her past . In fact, she ran all the way to England, and became a nanny (A fan of Mary Poppins maybe?? laugh.gif)

She works for a very wealthy family, the Heelshire, taking care of their son, Brahms.

When she was first introduced to Brahms (her first day), she was shock to find that he is a 2.5" porcelain doll!!!

She also met the local grocer, Malcolm (Rupert Evans, last seen by me in Hellboy) on her first day.

I know, it sound a little prozac'ed, and for much of the movie it is.

The ending does redeem itself a little, I just wish more things had happened during the course of the movie.

Granted, I wasn't paying that much attention, was cleaning my apartment whilst watching this (distracted?)... Maybe need to re-watch...

Will keep you posted.

Captain America : Civil War (2016)

When you want 2 heroes to fight each other, this is how you do it. Sorry guys, say what you want but Marvel did it again. DC should really learn how to do it right.

This is how you tell a story without losing the audience. You don't need to know the whole back story of all the characters to enjoy this movie. The pre-requisite is that you should watch the Captain America franchise but this is a Captain America sequel. Watching the Avengers will also give you a leg up but it is not a necessity.

2 heroes that are basically good guys but have differing ideology. Events happens that starts to tear them apart and external pressure pushes them over the edge. They don't enjoy whacking each other but they need to do what they need to do and what they think is the right thing to do.

The pacing here is good. The casting is also good. Actions sequences are sometimes a little hard to follow but overall good. The best thing here is how they present the characters. With each unfolding event, you get a bigger view of the person behind the hero. The become more human and you are more able to relate to them, unlike a certain other movie where you get only a brooding, angry person and a whiny alien.

I especially like how they introduced The Black Panther. Batman should take a hint from this feline themed hero and learn how to separate anger, vengeance and reasoning. Not be blind as a bat.

Oh, as far as bashing the 'other' movie goes, here's a movie with a genius of a villain. Take notes, DC. Lots of 'em.

Rating : 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Eye in the Sky (2016)

Didn't saw a thread for this. Caught it couple days back. I feel people who serve in corporate as a low level/middle management will appreciate this film a lot.

- higher ups always taichi
- no one wants to take the accountability although in the position which requires them to do so
- everyone got their own agenda
- what seems right to the lower level folks might not be the same for higher level folks
- boss convinces you to do something unethical in the name of getting things done, but saves own ass in the end

Watched it last week.

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

Bryan Singer is back! WoHoo!!

So are James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Evan Peters etc, YEAH!!!

The introduction of the movie, FANTASTIC (put GODS OF EGYPT (2016) to shame really)!!!!

If THAT was the beginning, I cannot imagine what the rest of the movie would be like!!

Definitely higher, definitely more....

No quite...

The rest of the movie, quite frankly, was a little... blah for me...

After watching the movie, and having some time to analyze it, I think the issue lays with
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

When I left the cinema after X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), I was euphoric...

Here, I just thought it was an okay movie.

This is JUST my personal opinion.

Truth to be told, if you want to watch this movie, you would, no matter what I state here.

Hardcore Henry - A fine video game movie not based on a video game property.

Up front this is an experimental action movie with a killer idea where everything captured on a first person mode. If you dug those whack out action flicks like Shoot'em up, Crank, Takashi Miike or Sono Sion type of film direction...you will be up for a crazy wild ride. Don't expect a deep story with it but when the action drops the pace just ramp up to the eleven. Sharlto Copley is funny and a reason why he is appearing as multiple characters. It is also not a movie for everyone because of the motion sickness from the fps film making and it's not exactly hollywood hollywood production quality. If you are open minded about it, who knows you might even enjoy it. There are few truly innovative sequences that will get your adrenaline pumping. If you are an avid FPS gamer you also will come to know why and how certain scenes play out like an actual game. A cult movie in the making here.

Pride and prejudice and zombies...utterly bad movie. Couldn't finish the movie with the fake "english" acting and some made for TV type of scenes. Everything looks so staged...it couldn't capture the tone and swagger that I remember from the book.

The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Have you every had one of those bad days, that just did not start right, and as the days progress, things got bad, to worst, and worst, and worst....

This is the day I had.

And at 4 pm + I got rained on, and I still had an appointment to keep, and in my wallet, a ticket for a 5:45pm movie session, for The Conjuring 2!

I quickly rushed to my appointment, and you know the scene in Zootopia, at the DMV, and all the people in the DMV were sloth.

That again would be me, at my 4pm+ appointment and the time loomed closer and closer to 5:45pm...

Strangle, I managed to finish my appointment and was able to arrive at the cinema at 5:48pm....

Parked my car.

Got into the elevator and from B2 to 5th floor, EVERYONE had to either got on or get off...

At the cinema at 5:55pm

I prayed to the cinema gods that the trailers/adds ran long!....... And they did, managed to catch one trailer and two or three ads and the movie started!

Things can only get better right?

The person sitting next to me started to cough, and than cough and than on and on....

Cinema quite empty, got to a seat several rows behind and then things started to get better.

Enough about me, what about the movie??

Well, when the movie was first suggested, the Amityville storyline crept thru the grapevine.... And it does!!

Wait, is this not about the Enfield Poltergeist?

Yes it is?!?

Two in one?????

You can say that.

Am I being overly cryptic?

Yes I am!! laugh.gif

I just don't want to spoil it for you.

What makes a great sequel?

To me, a great sequel has to stand on it's two feet. Meaning, if the first movie was not made, the second movie would have had stood on it's own and made an obscene amount of money.

And I believe The Conjuring 2 succeeded in that.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson are back as Lorraine & Ed Warren. rclxm9.gif

Carey Hayes & Chad Hayes + David Leslie Johnson & James Wan did the script. rclxms.gif

The main surprise for me is that Enfield Poltergeist is a "famous" ghost story case, and I have not heard anything about it!! (My member at the My Name is Mov_Freak and I am a Shock-a-holic revoked)

And I thought I have every episode of Strange But True? Hm...

Anyway... Moving on...

Spooks a plenty

If you think you have figured out James Wan's formula, this movie proves that he does NOT have a formula, he gets his scripts/beats right.

I do have one complain

With it all said and done, it really does not matter what I say here, it boils down to how curious you are.

So, go watch this.

You know you want to!! laugh.gif

Warcraft : The Beginning (2016)

The tagline "The Beginning" got it right. This is the origin story for all movie goers, fans or non-fans of the games alike. You do not need to have played the game to enjoy this movie.

The story is fine and most will be able to follow it without any problems. The pacing is a little slow in the beginning but overall, it will run fine.

For fans of the game, I will say that this movie will give you more details of the orc clans that the game may not have delved into.

Go in with no expectations and this movie will do its job of entertaining you. It's not a great movie but it is far from a flop so you can safely buy a ticket and enjoy. I went in and came out expecting the next film.
