I actually watched a fair amount of movies over the last few weeks. Saw Harry Potter 7.1 Liked the first half a lot but the second half just draggged. I'm just sick of these so-called "contemplative" moments the last few HP movies (and books) like to throw at us. And haven't we seen enough of Harry/Ron/Hermione bickering like emo kids? Ptui. Also not a fan of how the latter books/movies like to make stuff up on-the-go to... to me the whole HP universe gets more ridiculous and illogical with each book.

Also watched the Red Riding Trilogy, a three-part made-for-TV series that is set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire Ripper case that also focuses on police bruality. Anyway the first movie is a pitch-black crime-noir, with bleak atmosphere and photography, and a great performance from Sean Bean. It is very good, but it just stops short of greatness because a lot of it is a bit undeveloped. The villain isn't developed enough, the relationship of the protagonist and the girl isn't, and the ending comes a bit too soon I feel. A longer runtime would have been better. The second part is a lot more procedural investigative stuff, and is engaging throughout. The most consistent film of the three. Part three is good too, but it reveals too much. I always felt the shady police figures in the first two were better left unexplained... well at least not explained to the extent that everything is black and white. Take as a whole though, the three films make for an excellent but bleak series.

The King's Speech. Liked it a lot. Much better than what I expect from a film about how a king learns not to stammer.

The Man From Nowhere. Another Korean revenge flick. Good first half but last hour becomes a dumb action movie with over-sentimental moments.

Yes it was a quirky movie. I thought they resolved some plot issues in the 6th movie without having to introduce Bill, and lo and behold they introduce Bill!! Rendering the scene in movie 6, redundant! The seventh book had never been a favorite, and have to add a lot of it had to do with HIGH expectation!!

I do have a funny feeling that the 7.2 movie is just going to be action after action!! They did TAKE AWAY a lot of action from the ending of the 6th book, so, it definitely is likely.

I've got this for quite some time now and have tried to to watch the first one, and keep finding myself dozing off... So have never had a chance to finish watching these... Am looking forward to Sean Bean's Game of Thrones (TV series, 2011)

in the last few weeks, my theme are 'British'. i watched huge numbers of British movies /TV Series (not so British, still have huge influence of Hollywood..)

Moon [2009] UK

this is simply the best space-sci-fi film i watched in the past few years. high emotional ride. Sam Rockwell is beast, great performance. low -budgeted (5 mil), that will make it more special. though certain aspect of the story are questionable (the computer 'Gerty', are sympathizer)

love it, 9/10.

Snatch [2000] UK

crime movie with colourful characters, numbers of side stories, a lot of funny /comical moments. im really enjoyed this one.

9/10.

Just seen Scream 4. I thought it was pretty lame & cliche. The girls would still be terrified though.

It's heavily censored at the cinemas.

Scream 4 (2011)

Scream 4 is a... scream!!

The beginning is lots and LOTS of fun (Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell anyone??).

It also has Hayden Panettiere and Emma Roberts to boot!

Story is both original and yet pay homage to the previous chapters!

Neve Campbell reprises her role as Sidney Prescott.

David Arquette and Courteney Cox also reprises their roles as troubled couple (interesting how art imitates life) Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers-Riley.

Throw about ALL the previous rules and the new ones...

Let put it this way, the story is convoluted at some parts and the writer has... interesting take on the Y Generation (or is that the Z Generation, I get confused...)

I had a blast!

I really did

If they didn't make Scream 2 or 3... this would have been a perfect sequel

Source Code (2011)

Why does this movie not get much attention?

It should

It is BLOODY good

Story Good

Execution Good

Acting Good (there is a scene where Jake Gyllenhaal receive a bad piece of news, and it kills him inside. Normal, a lot of actors would do a tears rolling down one eye, he did it by having his eyes go red but with not tear rolling [because he is a tough military guy]). Brilliant.

I really don't want to spoil this for anyone.

If you like sci fi that is cerebral you'll LOVE this movie

They shouldn't have used this title. It just felt unsatisfying for me in the end. And seriously, opening up 100% of your brain, should actually teach you to be INVISIBLE. Sheesh.

It consists of two stories, the latter one directed by Mark Lee is hilarious but in overall, the film is only decently amusing

A Chinese Ghost Story (2011)

I'm a big fan of the !987's A Chinese Ghost Story.

Not many people would know that Tsui Hark actually asked Mona Fung for permission to use the title A Chinese Ghost Story because Shaw Bros had used the title in one of their movies back in the 70s...

Siu-Tung Ching and Tsui Hark didn;t really have a clear direction as to what the feel of the movie would be and actually experimented ALOT before they got something they liked!

Leslie Cheung did the "ingenue" role well laugh.gif and Joey Wang was drop dead gorgeous in that movie.

The comedy, magic and storyline (with holes so big you can drive a tank through) worked, and I remember going to the cinema 3 times watching THAT movie!! (I have never done that ever again)

Ah, those were the good old days.

AS for the latest incarnation of the said movie... the set is beautiful... the rest, is a little messy

My BIGGEST complain lays with Shao-qun Yu as Ning Caichen...

He is put in a very difficult position of trying to out Leslie Cheung, well, Leslie Cheung... Nobody in this world can do that. He would have been better off taking the character in a whole new direction, and alas, that was NOT so....

Yifei Liu is pretty, and the role calls for her to be... slutty (lacking a better theme) in some scenes, again, I don't think she pulled that off...

Does Louis Koo really need another pay cheque... No really

Some of the fight scene were good.

That's it folks

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)

I have read all seven books when I was a lot younger.

I have to admit, the first book has always been my favorite, and to date that applies for the movies as well.

It is sad that the four original children will NOT be in another Narnia movie

I like the third movie

Well executed. CGI was good and a lot of people complain about the role of Eustace Clarence Scrubb. Sorry to rain on everybody's parade, he was even worst in the book. I thought Will Poulter did a good job bringing the character to life.

It is impressive what Fox was able to bring the life with a smaller budget then the second movie, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why Weta was NOT involved in this one!!

The ocean of Queensland Australia is SPECTACULAR

Unlike the Harry Potter storyline that has the same premise (they go to school and then stuff happens), ever Narnia movie is different.

I for one is hoping that a fourth Narnia movie would get made. So FOX DON'T give up!!

when i was a kid, she was the epitome of beauty. how was A Chinese Ghost Story (2011) compare with The White Dragon (2004) another period piece directed by wilson yip in terms of enjoyment factor?

gave up watching the andy lau/gongli vehicle, what women want after 10 mins not because its rubbish. i know it is but i'm a huge fans of the two icons. the reason being both of their voices were dub. in mandarin it was andy's and canto, gongli's. these joint hk/china ventures are the shites

Thor (2011)

By Odin, it is GOOD.

It's NOT perfect, it is good.

Asgard NEVER looked so good.

This movie is ALL about duality.

Interesting how "heaven" seem so... Shakespearean... (Thor, Clash of the Titans etc)

I LUV the interpretation/representation of the rainbow bridge (BiFrost)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the beginning of the movie

Tom Hiddleston is PERFECT as Loki

I do have some bones to pick though

Please stay after the movie, there are AS USUAL tidbits!

The Roommate (2011)

There isn't an ORIGINAL idea. Period!

Single White Female with a hint of Basic Instincts??

A forgettable suspense thriller and NOBODY particularly stands out.

Nothing and I mean NOTHING unpredictable.

I am 1:18 mins into the movie and have been debating with myself, for half and hour whether I should go on or not (put off for another day??) *Sigh*

A friend was repeatedly asking me to watch that in the cinema thank god I didn't go for it. Obvious it would suck, really.
