2.6.37-020637rc2-generic kernel installed and used, but my battery status is still undetectable. Any more solutions?

2.6.37 RC?

There are already 2.6.37 stable releases, up to 2.6.37-12 as I am using it now. You can give it a try though, but I don't know much regarding what this may help.

@Acid
Do "free -m" in terminal.
System monitor might be showing used + cached memory. Looking at the output from "free -m" and doing some math should be able to tell you what's showing. Conky has an option to show cached and buffered memory as well, but I forgot the variable/syntax. >_<

It'd be great if you started a thread telling us about all the networking adventures you've had with Linux.
You call me a "guru", but seriously, there's very little I know (I don't work in the IT/computing industry aside from some small GPL/BSD/FOSS projects), and I'm probably a noob compared to most people on the networking side of things. I'd be very thrilled if you found time to share your experiences with us, as I presume there's a lot I could learn from you. smile.gif

Sorry, I didn't realized you replied me.

As for my networking adventures? Not much actually. I read and experiment mainly on penetration testing stuff. Nothing really revolutionary for the home. Although my current home project is as I mentioned earlier in the thread, setting up a PPPOE server.

Its coming along very slowly though. I'm having issues with the firewall part of the server. Probably because I'm lazy to type in iptables and would rather use a GUI like fwbuilder. If I get it to work or scale down (most likely TBH) I'll start a thread called "How I spent 18 hours trying to build a transparent intranet firewall"

ok...I got this issue that made me headache on what actually causing it..

haven't used linux mint 10 since few days, and today when I try to boot it...it went smoothly like usual, then it stuck on

[hostname]tty1[hostname] login

then I can't even type my username/password...

After that I hard reboot, and going to recovery mode, it went well..until it reaches the menu like "resume, clean"..etc..then suddenly it jumps off and goes to blank screen..

and it just shows

CODE
Skipping EDID probe due to cached edid.

wth? I can't even access to console menu in recovery..

... I'm having a hard time figuring out how to use Bluetooth on a phone to make it a broadband modem...

... and so, BlueMan is the man for me. It's not without its hiccups though, but I managed to make it work nicely nevertheless.

Long-time problem solved! thumbup.gif

Mmm.. usually this means that you have a daemon/service running on startup that configures your resolv.conf. An example of such a daemon would be DHCP related programs.

I think there is a way to make the resolv.conf immutable. Try the following :-
CODE
sudo chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf

If you want to change it again, use :-
CODE
sudo chattr -i /etc/resolv.conf

But I do suggest you look through your list of startup programs/applications to find the problem.

I don't know if its because you are running a DHCP service. I used DHCP as an example.

Startup scripts can be found at /etc/init.d

There should be quite a number of scripts found inside there. Its gonna be time consuming to look through all of them but its the only way I know to troubleshoot this problem. Or maybe we can wait for Guru G-17 to come on and help. He knows his stuff.

Try checking your sources to see if the source you are pointed at is working. If not, try a different source. I had some problems with my debian sources a while back, so I added a singaporean server.

Do we have a local debian mirror?

Packy!!! ...... Botasky!!!!

There's no M'sian Debian mirror, as far as I know.
I think some uni had one a few years ago, but it sorta disappeared.
Anyways, Debian prides itself on being pure and clean, and Malaysia is probably too corrupt for it. Libya will probably get and official Debian mirror before Malaysia. sweat.gif

What problems?
Scorps? ... He ALWAYS has problems..... it's neverending rolleyes.gif

@scorps
DHCP won't cause this directly, but dhclient might.

Try this;

(1) Edit your resolv.conf and put your desired settings/variables

(2a) Edit /etc/dhclient.conf and add the following line;
CODE
supersede domain-name-servers <dns1-ip>, <dns2-ip>;

if that doesn't work, then remove step-2a and do 2b (below) instead.

(2b) Create a file called /etc/dhclient-enter-hooks (as root, obviously) and put this inside ;
CODE
make_resolv_conf() {
       echo "no changes made to resolv.conf"
}

If those don't work, check your startup services. install rcconf and run it (as root). You can see a list of daemons/services you can disable.

Yeah! Packy! Bota! I am amazed by the animation. Loved it too biggrin.gif

Regarding scorps issue, what if the issue isn't his DHclient? The choice of DNS keeps changing might mean that another application has very specific DNS servers it needs to connect to.

Sorry for the late reply. I was out for the last 2 nights.
Your battery might have a defective sensor somewhere.

First remove your battery and clean the contacts. Then put it back in and boot into your OS. After about 10 minutes, unplug the power cord to make it run on battery power, and  in terminal do ;
CODE
cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state

CODE
cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/info

CODE
cat /etc/default/acpid

CODE
dmesg | grep acpi -i

...and paste the output here.

This might also be a kernel or BIOS issue. I can't help with teh BIOS, since it's different for each system (and I don't want to be responsible for screwing up your BIOS), but do you have a LTS kernel (2.6.32.xx). If yes, boot with it and see if your battery info is available of not.

Sorry for the late reply there. Wasn't free check out my problem last few weeks.

j/k. Here: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/ppa

Issue this into your terminal:

CODE
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa && sudo apt-get update

You might want further reading which kernel version you might want though. I just happened to take the latest and it works well on my laptop thumbup.gif
