I wonder how can I use ScrotWM on Fedora. I've installed it and I can't change to ScrotWM. Any advice?

I'll follow your guide but I'll have to re-login because I accidentally opened the GNOME file. xD

I'm planning to switch to Arch last month but I'm not sure how to install it in a partition instead of using the whole disk. Any ideas?

Lol, I was. But I share my PC with my sister, she's gonna get mad if I wipe the whole disk. Haha.

QUOTE(G-17 @ Dec 19 2010, 07:27 PM) The Arch Beginners Guide and ArchWiki are a good place to start. Don't get me wrong but it looks cool. Lol.Great resources. I don't use Arch as much as I used to (AUR is a joke, imho), but it's still a great distro for learning. Just don't think you've suddenly become a guru just because you installed Arch, cos anyone can do it by reading the guide. Alternatively, you could try a minimal Fedora or Ubuntu install first, and then move to Arch or Debian Unstable, and finally move on to source based distros liek Gentoo or Sorcerer.... seems the more logical learning curve to me. Then let's make it 'bising'! Hmm, let's start with games. Anyone have fun and good native Linux games? I have Nexuiz but it's too laggy(network lag), playing with bots are boring. So I'm looking like racing or sports game. SuperTux Kart, is pretty good, I'll download it later. Any suggestions?

QUOTE(khakilang @ Dec 22 2010, 12:31 PM) I think the quality of video in Linux is slightly poorer compare to Window. When watching movie there seem to be an horizontal line running across the screen especially in action movie. But it is fine in Window XP. I figure it could be the graphic card driver or the X server display config kind of thing. It is a minor issue but just out of curiosity why this thing happen? Anyone face this issue? Like Acid has said, it's called screen tearing and you need to turn on Vertical Sync.@Acid : I'm not sure but I install scrot from the repo and there's no entry for Scrot in GDM. I'm not even sure if I installed the right thing. Added on December 22, 2010, 3:39 pmAfter digging up the webs, Scrot is not even in the repo.... So I have installed the wrong thing, huh. QUOTE(G-17 @ Dec 22 2010, 11:21 PM) Just so you know, Scrot and ScrotWM are completely different/unrelated packages. ScrotWM is the tiling window manager I was talking about earlier, while scrot is just a screenshot taking app. So if you installed scrot, then yes, you installed the wrong thing. I gave up, I wanna try xmonad yesterday and I kept getting disconnected from the FTP servers. Duh, why is it so hard? With regards to starting ScrotWM via GDM; As far as I know Ubuntu and stock Debian Stable (Gnome) will automatically add ScrotWM to your xsessions, but I'm not sure about other distros. The instructions I previously posted (about manually creating a scrotwm.desktop in your /usr/share/xsessions) should work across most distros that have GDM installed. Not sure about Fedora (which I assume -Hzu- is using), but maybe it has something to do with the path Yum installs Scrotwm to. Like I mentioned previously, I don't rely on GDM to manage my sessions (I'm old fashioned and prefer good ol' startx), so I'm not exactly well-informed in that department. It might be best to ask the Fedora forums. |

QUOTE(khakilang @ Dec 23 2010, 12:44 PM) I am using nVidia 7200GS and the drives installed the most current. I try glxgears but it ask me to install. I will install it and see how it goes. Thanks! What distro are you using? Are you using nouveau driver or Nvidia's proprietary driver? If you are using Nvidia's driver, you have to enable "Sync to VBlank". |
