Pros and cons of the Sigma 17-70mm OS HSM

Pros:

1.HSM - silent focus, really useful in capturing video as AF noise will not be recorded as it is not present.

2.Very short MFD (Minimum focus distance) - 22cm. So you could practically take close-ups of pics and be creative. (p.s. Its a really good camwhore lens LOL!) Tamron 17-50mm has a MFD of 27mm and the Carl Zeiss 1680z has MFD of 35cm.
Albnok also refered to it as Sigma 17-70mm OS HSM "Macro" due to the short MFD and the long zoom which enables amazing close ups!

3.Built in OS - According to some reviews by people, the built in OS in the lens offers 1-2 stop extra image stabilization compared to the SSS in the Alpha bodies. It also offers stabilization in the view finder 

Cons:

1.No constant aperature

2.Price (if compared to the Tamron 17-50mm)

it's cheap and yummy...too bad we can't get it here

18-250 is for those who wants a greater focal range without the need of changing lenses
of course the IQ at the ends will be affected due to optical limitation

18250 was my first lens. loved the af and lens lock. i think it's a very good multipurpose or travelling lens. it's quite sharp, i'd say. it's an all in one lens, kind of.

anyone is into fisheye here? it's a fun lens for less serious images and really tempted. i would need a lot more advice on them distortion-beauties.

Erm...anyone can clarify again that the Tamron SP AF17-50mm F/2.8 di II A-mount using lens motor or alpha(a55) motor? if using alpha motor means the lens will be quiet right?

getting the system probably next weekend...so just doing the final clarification....

its using the body's motor... no it will be noisier compared to SSM but almost the same with SAM... 

fansoption: SAM lens to be precise.

i got rumored that tamron 17-50 will be replace somewhen, with better design (sharper) and less glass (lighter) and with PZD! but duno sony mount will have PZD or screw driven, but my bet is PZD coz its silent and meant for SLT market

back from shooting..my wireless flash dropped into the sea!!!!!!!

so anybody can confirm when in video mode+AF action....will the AF motor howling being recorded as well?..because i been briefed as other old nikon/canon don't have motor with their body so rely on lens motor...that's why i need to know whether this tamron lens on a55 will produce no sound(like the kit lens does)
