playing with wide aperture, local AF is the best bet you can go to avoid OOF
but if you have stepped down to F5 n lower, you can get away with center AF, as is is known that the center crossed AF is most sensitive spot esp lowlight wink.gif

How i wish a850 diamond shaped af-spots is more widespread

Hahaha recomposing also takes time LAH!
If u can train ur hand/eye for re-composing than setting the AF point won't be much of a problem!

Use Local AF lah ALL THE TIME
Just by pressing the center button than it's the center AF! KAN?

Train ur right thumb to stick to the AF dial.. rclxub.gif

^yes u can change it.just push the dial button and focus (S1) before u shoot (S2)
The focus point will be red flashing, it locks at the focus point if u push the right dial arrow
That's why I say u must practice.. brows.gif

Sorry.. I dont get this bro.. now mine is set to local AF (right point) what do i do next? I can change it to centre by pressing the center button.. What if i want to change the point to left side?my focus point is not flashing.. It just comes on when i focus.

Added on December 26, 2010, 2:09 pmThe A200's separate Drive Mode, ISO and Display buttons are gone, and these functions are now mapped unto the four-way controller. That alone would not be objectionable at all - we have seen similar solutions that worked quite well - but unfortunately Sony's implementation has caused the four-way pad to cease functioning as a quick AF point selector. Now you need to enter the Function menu via the Fn button, navigate to 'AF area', enter, select 'Local', then repeatedly press the left or right arrow button until the desired AF point is highlighted, and finally exit the Function menu. That's about half a dozen button presses (sometimes more) required for something as simple as changing the active AF point!

This effectively means that most people will only use the central AF sensor for focusing, and recompose if needed.

Read this online.. Damm.. Means I have to use back center AF point.. doh.gif

try asking yourself, how serious u gonna get in photography.

lately theres a trend where ppl thinks using dslr can produce better pictures, and so the bandwagon of gettin dslr has broaden.
dslr gives you the opportunity of interchangeable lens where you can nit pic what lens suites your preference, and of course better sensors.
with latest techs, high end pnS are as good as well as they offers full manual control and stay compact.

the choice is yours, venture into world of full manual and customization, or be compact wink.gif

getting back to you question, how about getting a midrange used unit? the a5xx series has better ergonomics n performs better.
i dont fancy the new a2xx/3xx series as they taken out few stuff from the 1st gen a300/350 and too small. Then again, please test at shop and checkout if you like em in your hands

i really not sure how to suggest.. because with ur bugdet maybe 2/3 series are the best bet..
for ur info <2 series no live view.. if ur new with dlsr.. maybe live view will help u later for certain angle of view..

actually shots above taken by using the live view..
i saw in garage sales.. new A390 can get around rm1.5k..

try also looking for 2nd hand camera.. and see whether the model below suit ur need..

A300/A350
A330/A380/A390
