Trust me, small firm will still hire.

Heck, even diploma holders also they might take in some time.

All you gotta do is TRY.

Start drafting your resume, and start applying.

Jobstreet has plenty of opening.

Anyway, this is getting a little outta topic so I'm gonna stop here.

Good luck for your career pathway to Big 4 someday!  icon_rolleyes.gif

i have a few questions to ask and i hope someone can enlighten me biggrin.gif cheers

1. What does an audit associate normally do in big4 KL?
2. Is proficient in Bahasa Melayu is a "MUST" in this industry?
3. Do we need to write reports in a daily basis as an audit associate?

I am a fresh grad with no experience in working, and i don't have a good writing skills, so i am a bit worried, i hope someone can provide me with useful comment!!! Thank you so much!!! smile.gif

Audit associates get to audit the easier sections.. Depending on the staffing though.. If the firm is very short staffed, they'll let you handle the whole file if you're competent

Better to be proficient in BM if your clients are all malay.. Basically 90% of my clients are malay.. They speak malay, i reply in English. Proficiency in english is a MUST

You have to document all your work in the audit working papers. I'm really fed up with my juniors' written english. In terms of report, probably issue list or management letter but audit associate don't really get to write them

No experience never mind, as long as you're a fast learner. Everybody loves a competent junior. As for writing skills, its sth that everybody needs to improve..your english seems fine to me.

1) Like pherac said, simple sections, cash, PPE, dormant/ semi-dormant companies
2) Not a "MUST", my BM was bad but I was lucky that my clients were English speaking. It would depend on the industry you choose, and more importantly, the specific clients. It sure helps though!
3) Nope. Simple documentations on excel sheets.

Thank you so much for all the useful information from pherac & Hawkrein. It means a lot to me!

Apart from that, may i know what kind of tests will be given to job applicants during the hiring process?

What should we prepare for the interview and tests? Do we need to apply our accounting / auditing knowledge in the test ? As i have graduated a few months ago, and i have forgotten most of the stuffs so if these knowledge is needed, i have to start revising. :S

Hi, I just completed my ACCA last semester Feb 2015. I am 23 yrs old and I have 1 year experience working as audit associate in a small firm. I submitted my application around March to the big 4. So far I only got 1 response from KPMG but I still haven secure my interview. Does that means that I cant join big 4. I am applying for small firms now since I have been waiting for 2 months for nothing.

So I presume KPMG gave u some e-tests to do before inviting u to an interview?

Everyone can join Big 4, especially ACCA holders. FYI, I am an engineering grad, but ended up working for KPMG.

Yes, they gave me the test but my interview which was scheduled on March was delayed to May/early June. So I assume that is just an 'excuse' not to hire me. I have not receive any email from them since then. It's almost end of May so I have already lost hope since there are no news from the other 3 firms too.

I am having the same dilemma as you, i applied for a position as an audit associate at big 4 (KL) but until now i still haven't got any news from them. My instinct tells me that part of the reasons is because i did not involve myself much in co-curricular activities and no related working experience as i didn't participate in internship during my summer holiday.

At the moment, i am thinking whether i should apply big 4 in Ipoh or work in mid tier/ small firm in KL? sad.gif

sigh... any advices?

Yeap that is true...

I am an engineering grad myself...

In fact, Big 4 (especially advisory) will accept graduates from any background... Law, engineering (software, mechanical, chemical, etc), psychology, mathematics, etc...
I even had an intern from LSE doing actuarial sciences...

Your plot twist skills is legendary, you should be working in an audit firm. Home tuition thing understates your value.

On a serious note, nice that you have found your calling. Lol.
