given an option, would u...

1) work in big 4 in Malaysia

or

2) work in medium firm(BDO, CroweHowarth, GrandThornton etc) in S'pore

Haha, I'm facing the same dilemma. But I'm a girl.
So, what did you choose eventually?

Can someone with experiences give some advice on this?
Let's say after working either in Big4 M'sia or med firm in S'pore(as a freshie), I still wanna continue my career in S'pore(preferably big4 in S'pore),
which should I choose for starting?

From my point of view, I would join the Big 4 in Malaysia then subsequently apply for an internal transfer to a sister firm in Singapore after a few years.

I believe you should just tell them your availability date taking into account the notice period of resigning from firm A if you want to join firm B. Don't reveal anything that does not bring good to your image.

If both are pending, it will be RM1800. Only after results are out for ACCA or OBU will the pay be revised.

Hi all.

I hope any of you could help me out. I am in a dilemma as I have been offered tax in Ernst & Young, PwC and KPMG. All three are in Corporate tax. PwC is corporate tax in compliance & advisory, EY is in Corporate Tax Advisory while KPMG is mainly corporate tax compliance.

I have eliminated KPMG. So now, its left to EY and PwC.... I was an ex-intern in EY but it was in assurance. I am hoping any of you who are currently working in tax for EY and PwC could share your experience in terms of type of work assigned to fresh grads, culture, the timing of peak period and so on.

I really appreciate your replies. I need to make a decision by the end of the week. Thanks in advance.

Added on December 28, 2011, 3:27 pmBy the way, are any of the Big 4s recruiting now?

Yeah, you can carpool. Even if you have your own car, you can't always claim your travelling expenses...so it's still better if you carpool =)

All the Big 4 are recruiting now....due to peak period and high turnover rate

Added on December 28, 2011, 9:47 pmOne question:

Which provides more benefits? PWC or EY?

just asking opinion, since fresh grads are always advised to attempt to enter big4....

if initially i'm not accepted(bcuz not completed all papers in ACCA), but accepted in a medium firm(CH,GT,RSM,Mazars etc), after working there few months then only accepted by big4.. should I switch or wait a couple of years exp in med b4 making the switch?

kindly advice

Yes you can but you can't audit a particular company in which you own its shares.

Only if your investments meet the requirements of the independence policies of the audit firm you are working in. Generally, you and your immediate family members will not be allowed to invest in shares in PLCs (and group of companies under those PLCs) that are clients, regardless of whether or not you are assigned to the team that provide services to these clients.

In many countries such as USA and UK, there are Independence Regulations; Big4 have lots of MNC clients, and the audits of these companies could be subjected to compliance of these regulations.
Example: Audits of MNC with operations/Head Office in USA maybe subjected to the Securities and Exchange Commission's independence requirements (very strict!).

If you wish to know more on this topic, you can always google "Auditor Independence Issues"

Hi all, does anyone know who the KPMG's clients are? I heard KPMG's clients are mainly the big banks. If so, I wonder if KPMG staff gets to travel around the country to audit the banks branches? Or perhaps the KPMGs of the other states get to do so?
