Hi,

I am looking for a digital camera.
I was previously using Canon Ixus 870IS.
Besides giving me flash issues (smoke coming out), i loved it.

Type of camera/lens/accesories : Digital Camera Point and Shoot
Budget: 1k+
Your Location: KL lowyat
Preferable brand : Canon
Type of photography u want to do : I'm not a photography person, but mainly just want to take pictures quickly without having to wait for flash, camera starting, etc. Must be quick to capture kids photos.
Any specific models in mind? : Back to IXUS maybe?
Any specific features u want? : Wide screen at the back, vivid colours like Ixus 870IS.

*help!*
*
My parents were using 860IS too and they love it, nice design and easy to use. Err, actually Ixus is more specialized at it's design. Why don't consider Powershot S95? Very compact yet it's a high end semi-pro camera. smile.gif

Type of camera/lens/accesories : entry level dslr/anything in between compact+dslr
Budget: cheaper will be better
Your Location: kl/pj
Preferable brand : pentax kr/pentax k5/sony nex 3/5 /panasonic gf-2
Type of photography u want to do : landscape(travelling)+background defocus pics
Any specific models in mind? : as stated above
Any specific features u want? : sharp colours+easy to use+pics look nice in night time+camera must be pink/red/white
pls advise
*
Kindly state your budget range even though you said cheaper will be better. tongue.gif Panasonic GF-2 and Sony NEX 5 will do. Not going for DSLR? Nikon D3100 or Canon EOS 1000D biggrin.gif

QUOTE(fwhoam @ Jan 13 2011, 12:29 PM)
hmm.gif  maybe i will stick to kit lense for quite a long time before buying new lens
thinking of getting 60d but many of my friend used d90  rclxub.gif
*
Since many of your friends using D90, then my advice for you = go for Nikon. Since the lens can be interchangeable and opinions can be shared. D7000 is a good one, why not just save some more? wink.gif

D7000 is quite powerful with low light performance and high iso.. 7D quite decent also.

1080p? 550D from Canon. But if you dun mind looking elsewhere and brands, Sony A55 has stronger Video recording functions side.

Pentax Kr n Pentax K5 are DSLR >">

Then NEX 5 should be a quite good buy for you. But then again, depends on what you want. If you like Panasonic, then get it.

Ahh.. very poisonous indeed.

I'm guessing you would need a 20mm f/1.7 pancake lens at least, to get such effects. The standard zoom 14-42mm I believe might not have that much of a shallow DOF.

The GF1 has a pretty quick AF from what I read, so I would expect the GF2 to have similar performance if not faster smile.gif

Controls and button layout for both GF2 and NEX5 are pretty different. One is I guess designed for the those upgrading from the regular PnS while the other are rather for more "serious" shooters as there are more dedicated buttons and better "usablility". Do try them out, they're really different. Pick the one which you find nice handling. Good Luck

No lens, how to take picture? hmm.gif

550D is newer lo compared to 500D. But specs wise, I prefer Sony over value for $$ than others. Sony A580 also outperforms the 550D slightly.

550D got some newer functions compared to 500D. Nothing much special.

For the 500/550D,there are various kit lenses that come together like 18-55 or 18-135 or even 18-200.

550D has some neat features over the 550D like the

1)18mp sensor
2)iFCL metering system
3)Auto ISO up to ISO6400 iinm
4)Faster burst rate
5)3:2 ratio LCD screen with a better resolution(1040k colours iinm)
6)SDXC memory cards compatible
7)ISO range now expandable to ISO12800, and ISO6400 is no longer in expanded mode
8)etc

The 550D is indeed the successor of the 500D. So it's better in almost every department. Just like an iphone 4 is better than a 3GS smile.gif

If you're into Canon, then the 550D is quite a good deal. I'm using one, and I find it pretty good for my needs.

Of course, there are other offerings from other brands as well, notably Nikon and Sony. Put in Nikon D3100 and Sony A55/A580 into your consideration list as well. Heard good stuff about them smile.gif You can shortlist a few models in mind, or perhaps some of our recommendations, and maybe try all of em' at your local shop. Especially if you're a DSLR newbie, I'd suggest to take the most practical approach, that is to choose which you like handling best, rather than looking purely at specifications which might confuse you even further. Good luck smile.gif

550D wouldn't be a wrong decision however if you don't really use the mega pixel thing and the video recording looking at 500D wouldn't be wrong as well. it's depends.
if you are okay with another brand sony will be a good value of money. or maybe D3100. tongue.gif
