For your budget, top LCD is quite impossible. A top LCD body is likely to be a semi-pro (mid-range to high end) body. For example, Nikon D7000, Nikon D300s, Canon EOS 60D, 7D etc. You may consider a discontinued product like Canon EOS 50D, budget may increased to RM2800.

My suggestion = Save more money.

Wow, both your specific models range is soooooo big. D3100 is an entry level body, 60D is semi-pro already. Both Canon and Nikon can do great jobs. It is just whether for which brand gives you more impression. I am a Canon fanboy, so I choose Canon. biggrin.gif

Canon EOS 550D with kit 18-55mm. Why is it taken at mid sea? You mean you will be staying on the sea to snap photos? smile.gif

Hello. I'm a total newbie in DSLR. I've decided to buy Canon 550d, but as i'm still a beginner, so some people suggested me to buy a secondhand camera with kit lens, due to it's cheaper price and also longer warranty (3years). As you all know, price of a secondhand camera compared to a brand new one, the difference is merely just few hundreds. Here now, I'm seeking advices on which camera should i buy.

1) Brand new set with kit lens - Rm2880
2) New body with secondhand lens - Rm2300 + Rm300
3) Used camera set found in forum- ~Rm2600 ( but with 3 years warranty)

All three options are within my budget, but of course cheaper is better.

I'd get option 2 anytime, because a brand new body for me is so important since I'm going to use it for like 2-3 years time down the road, so I wouldn't want it to be in a used condition smile.gif

Getting the body only is not much of a problem, but sourcing out for the 18-55 lens could be a real hassle. I took around 1 month to actually get mine through Garage Sales here, pretty sweet deal 1 month old-almost never used for a mere RM300, also with 2 years 11 months warranty left drool.gif So yeah, if you have the patience, so why not? No big deal if you're only getting a 2nd hand 18-55 kit lens, who uses it for like 2-3 years? I see mostly after 1 year already "upgrade" already hahaha

if the lens is the same (kit lens).
go for the third option.

else go for the other lens with 2nd option.

both of the cameras u stated is under ur budget. just that they r truly different cameras. GF2 is a micro four third system camera(inter-changeable lens) while the S95 is a high-end compact. this means that the GF2 holds up a bigger sensor hence the GF2 is capable in handling low light pics well, lesser noise than the S95. here's some sensor sizes that might giv u an idea.

user posted image

and the GF2 is not really pocket-able when u pair it up with some serious lenses or even the 14-42 is kinda big. u might wanna consider some cargo pants or a small bag to keep it then. well as the S95, its really pocket-able. me myself i own an S95 n the reason why i bought it is bcuz of pocket-ability. so when im not with my bulky DSLR, i still can shoot up some decent images. so its really up to u, pocket-ability, or better iq. hope this helps. cheers thumbup.gif

D3100 is a good decision.

Which one is better between D3100 and D5000? which can capture low noise for night scene and easier to use for Beginner in DSLR
