I guess this is the standard of the jam during this time. It will be worse on Thursday or Friday I guess.

you can look at that jam over there, but i can tell you, I can pass the immigration in around 30 mins even i started the queue on the bridge because they closed 2 of the car section and opened it for motorcycles. so its not as bad as u imagine tongue.gif

PS: forgot to mention, i might be 1 of them there... hehe, oh wait, izzit today's picture? if yes then i am not there coz i reach causeway at 6:15 on the bridge today and i manage to reach jb at 6:40, keke

Just curious, since I have only been travelling from JB-SG for less than one month, do the traffic/bus crowd after 7am be the same during school days and school holiday?  What about when getting back to JB in the evening?  Very curious...
*
i think the school bus won't affect the motorcycle section, mayb u will see less bike after 7am (i assume coz some parents might go out earlier to send their children to school). I also started taking bike when the school holiday starts, about 1 and a half month now. overall i am satisfied with the experience because the expectation set to me by my friend is crazy (he say if wanna reach office 8am, must leave home at 4:30am which is bull crap). somemore he stay in Taman Sentosa while i stay in Taman Ehsan Jaya. If i stay in Taman Sentosa, i think i can reach office in less than 1 hour. Now my travel time also is around 1 hour 15 mins.

not sure about Singapore Driving license. But riding a bike in Singapore is rather safe compare to KL, if u rode a bike in KL before, you will feel that riding in Singapore is a lot more comfortable, their roads doesn't have those manhole in the middle and bike can ride at the middle on the road if you are going a fast enough. and on the $$ wise, its expensive if u stay in SG because u need to pay $0.65 daily just to park your bike at the HDB car park. Road tax is expensive as well. The other day when i am jaming in the causeway, there is a uncle riding a Singapore bike similar to mine, he asked me how much i bought mine, i bought mine at RM8k so i asked him back about his bike, he said he bought his bike $8k. and his roadtax is $200+ yearly while i am only paying RM30 road tax and RM100+ insurance. I doubt his insurance gonna be cheap though. And when we park our bike back in Malaysia, we don't have to pay car park. So my suggestion, if u are planning to buy a bike, why not stay in JB and get a Malaysian bike, even after calculating the $4 daily VEP, it is still cheaper to get a Malaysian bike compare to SG bike unless you are talking about long term (at least 3 years and above). Who know ur company gonna transfer you to another country or you getting tired of SG and wanna go back to where u are from, by then you are on the losing end. And since u work odd hours, then you don't have to worry about the traffic jam in the causeway as well. as long as you go and do the biometric identification for biker (free), then you definitely can cross the causeway in less than 10 mins (avoid 5am-9am JB-SG and 5pm-9pm SG-JB).
*
yup its for long term...
i've done a bit of research...
those kap cai bout 3 to 4k for a new bike + insurance + the suck money device + road tax...(2nd hand 1k can get liao...but condition...hmm...)
with 8k i can get a big bike liao...probably a scrambler...
but then my main purpose is just to commute between office n home...
i've checked the route as welll..quite safe...but then malang tak berbau...

insurance cost bout 700, road tax 200, erp 1(but got many route to avoid erp) and yup 65cents for the parking...but currently my area is newly develop area...so parking free...and many blocks still havent finish...probably can tumpang their parking tongue.gif

dont want stay jb...i working tanjong pagar n my main purpose is to save time...

30mins of exhaust fumes almost everyday ? that's more than enough damage.

i think the traffic should be better now since they opened the bridge for cars that goes from SG-JB. only motorcycles are still using the curve road. But its actually good cause its a lot safer since there are no cars around when we are using that road.

I come from Kajang, single
Has about 10 yrs working exp. in MNC R&D electronics & as sales engineer (1 yr only)
currently pursuing Master of Eng. Management in UPM, will be completed
within 1.5-2yrs
Interested to get a job in Singapore in future due to current situation in M'sia is not encouraging.
Will stay in Canberra road Sembawang in the future, relative apt. is there.
Any opportunity inform me in future. (finished scanning the thread from V1-V5, n DL some important links)
In fact, downgraded salary after switched to local company as sales engineer, but is reasonable due to no exp. Resigned already (dont have 2 mention 2 much about Chinaman company). Grateful that I got some sales exp.
Quited Jap MNC due to no work-life balance (stayed overnight once a wk in recent yrs)
(passed JLPT Level 3) - just some other ability
found that searching job in Sing. is not easy, been trying for few mths
even asking for SGD3K only -engineer or sales job
Thanks!

Isnt your market exclusively in apple products? Since its a controlled item, i dont think theres much problems in spoiling the apple market.

Yeah, it is very low. I had a previous colleague with only 8 years of exp (not in sales but engineering) and he's living the expat lifestyle and being paid 5 figure salary in USD. It depends on whether you can get a decent job.

hi Bro,
I mean job for sales engineer, SGD3K.
As for manufacturing,
my specialty is uncommon in Singapore.
I had surveyed that 4 my job scope,
it is considered niche market.
They will offer as Assistant Eng only.
Anyway, all of them rejected me because
either open for PR/citizen or my qualification 2 high
for assistant eng.
n also, i noticed that the job description for engineer
in Singapore is more challenging, most of the skills I not acquired.
maybe due to education system different, or mostly kwailo MNC provide these skills.
I was graduated in Physics.
Anyway, as long as I able to get job in Sing. then I can settle down
and aim for PR and so on. C how lah.
Now oledi 31 yrs old, late oledi when look back.
Recently I got called for interview for sales engineer in Sing local company,
when I demanded that I 12 stay in Sing. n drive M'sian car (they 1 me 2 stay in JB
n to n fro daily), no more reply from them.
When review back, ridiculous 2 drive m'sian car in Sing.
But if stay in JB, many disadvantages :

-need pay house rental
-safety
-jam in traffic/custom
-driving risk (eg. accident, etc)
-energy

4 company point of view if stay in Sing (I guess)
-SGD20 per day, petrol, parking, higher allowance, etc.
but advantages for me :
save rental, time, energy, good safety

Thanks!

There is a few reason why they ask you to stay in JB.
1. You can't stay in Singapore if u wanna drive a Malaysia car because the car must leave the country at least 6 hours a day and the driver must not held any residential address in Singapore it self.
2. Parking in Singapore is expensive, petrol is expensive as well.
3. If you leave home at 6:30 and reach immigration at 7am, i can guaranty that you won't stuck on a traffic jam because its rather empty (i commute daily by bike, but after school holiday, i not so sure).
4. Safety in JB is a not as good as SG, but if you stay in KL before, i would say its more a less the same, so no big deal.
5. when your company ask you to drive a Malaysian car in SG, i think the $20 VEP is beared by them right?
6. Rental wise, JB is a lot cheaper compare to SG, a room in SG is $500 (minimum) and with RM1.2k, you can get a whole condo unit just next to the causeway.

Unless you will be driving a SG car (you need SG license to do this), it is impossible that you can drive a Malaysia car in SG long term.

Thanks for the info,
btw how much do u think i need 2 pay my aunt apt in Sembawang HDB
(I live there alone 4 whole house), I already have a figure in mind, just need some opinions.
Electricity + water + etc.
in the future, will go there 1 month, get the newspaper, n hunt 4 job.

BTW, how to installed free GPS for my Iphone 3GS.
can send to shop to fix it? how much? any idea?
I know Garmin can't be installed. maybe papago, tomtom, etc ok
Correct me if wrong.

thinking about M'sian car, it would be a problem if i left it n work in Sing.
Luckily not yet purchase any property in M'sia.

What is the salary should I demand for engineer in MNC?
I think similar to what I got in Msia rite?
The master degree I pursuing now is not thesis, just coursework based.
Somemore not NUS or NTU.
Many people adviced to take MBA because popular n high demand, but it is just 2 business oriented 4 me,
I prefer some technical knowledge so that not 2 boring.

THX.
