Base antenna has more sturdy and robust construction. Essentially they work the same. However, not all antenna are created equal. There are high gain antennas as well etc.

Made my own slim jim antenna out of 1/2" copper tubes.
UHF band tuned to 440MHz center. After tuning I got literally 1 SWR but after fixing the solder for got 1.3 -1.5 SWR as the best across 420 - 470MHz Tuning this thing is quite a pain because it is pretty sensitive :/ Anyway, here are my measurments: CODE 1cm ___ | | | | 32 cm 48.8cm | | | |___ |16cm I used the copper L shaped connectors. ![]() Pictures ahead » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Anyway, the antenna performs great! I can listen to what I could never before at my place. Too bad my Mototrbo Mobile Rig is damaged on the Tx part so I could not really test the Tx performance. QUOTE(wiraone @ Dec 30 2017, 02:11 PM) Tried to build one before for RTTY interface but failed, haha. Most probably my opto-isolator chip went bad or my soldering skill not good enough. I was going to buy the thing on ebay, but shipping is more expensive than the unitsee how now nearby my place got one electronic shop where i can buy some component solder myself with breadboard first... see how la Above is the schematic i am planning to do... need a usb-to-serial too for ptt This post has been edited by eddie_lim: Dec 30 2017, 03:16 PM |
