I'm from Sg Buloh, not familiar with any hams from Shah Alam but I believe they're quite a number .. probably you can just stop any of those hams which most of them will have their 9W2 or 9M2 call signs clearly visibile on their cars. Or you can try to head up to MARES clubhouse, they usually have a flea market on the first Sunday of the month. www.mares.org.my and check the info there. I've no idea when will be the next RAE, it will be usually announced in the paper and most clubs will put the announcement on their websites too.
On ebay thingy .. if you're lucky, it won't get stopped at the customs and if not, you'll need to apply for an import permit from SIRIM before it gets released from customs. No advisable! TYT/Puxing and other Chinese branded HTs are good for a start. The cost shouldn't be more than RM350 each. But for sure, nothing beat the Japanese ones .. so, if you've money, go for those Yaesu, ICOM or Kenwood. BTW, if you're on facebook .. there're quite a number of groups that you can join in. Added on April 5, 2012, 5:21 pmOh BTW, many local clubs usually organise the RAE classes a month before the exam. This post has been edited by wiraone: Apr 5 2012, 05:21 PM |

Yeah, don't hunt for the "tonto" though .. haha..
On the fleamarket, I've no idea really .. they had an AGM on the 1/4, no idea if they'll have it this weekend instead. If you're on facebook, check the following groups: https://www.facebook.com/groups/radioamaturmalaysia/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/mymares/ Or do a search. MARTS members were usually had their gathering (eyeball) somewhere in TTDI on every Friday night but of late, they've none. The last one I attended was last year. I've no idea what to suggest on a good handy to start with, but personally, I'm using cheapo Yeasu FT-60R, a dual band HT. There are few shops that sell amateur radios but the one I would suggest are One Communications (shop in Bukit Puchong) and Wave Communication (shop in Sri Gombak). For non amateur radio sets (aka those China made ones), you can find them all over .. Jalan Pasar, LowYat, Lelong, mudah.my .. |

Not that many cbers around and not that many are selling cb radios locally either. May I know what frequencies do you guys used? I believe it should be the uhf one instead the hf.

Baofeng UV-5R has wide frequency coverage which includes some amateur, commercial and UHF-CB frequencies. You'll surely can't use the VHF band at all without license but you can use it for those PMR/FRS frequencies (UHF-CB).

QUOTE(porkchop @ Aug 28 2012, 08:19 PM) I am just wondering who is around to be tracking who is having the license?? the only time my friend was stoped was during a road block during car convoy and he had to show his license to the polis to avoid trouble To tell you the truth, nobody. The only thing that I heard is, sometimes, the MCMC enforcement team will team up with the police to do a sport check at roadblocks. They'll only act if there is a complaint, e.g. For hams transmitting from their base, if the neighbours complained about TVI problem, they'll send the team to investigate. The same all over the world.. They're not going to track you without reason. |

QUOTE(Empathy @ Sep 1 2012, 02:29 PM) Anyone knows where I can buy Icom IC-718 . Can trust or not if I buy online ? I am a SWL and shortwave is my first love . There in nothing more gratifying than to listen to a weak utility station from a remote pacific island in the middle of the night . As SWL, the only way is to buy from local dealers. Do check kedaiscs, one comms or wave comms, a bit expensive but you won't go dealing with all the customs hassles. I've just bought a radio and the courier has asked me to get an import permit.. So went to SIRIM QAS and they asked for my ASAA and checked against the frequencies I'm allowed to tx/rx on.I wanna buy Icom IC-R75 but I think it is not sold here ... so the next logical thing is to get IC-718 . Thank You. |

QUOTE(TeckGuan @ Sep 14 2012, 04:11 PM) Hi! Just signed up in this forum due to interest in amateur radio. Shouldn't we have an apparatus assignment prior to owning any radio equipments? For the fear of MYR300k fine? You could join us in facebook, under https://www.facebook.com/groups/radioamaturmalaysia/ On having the ASAA (Amateur Station Apparatus Assignment) first, well, legally yes. Owning a transceiver is I believe not wrong, transmitting or interfering with other transmission might be.. as long as the transceiver is under SIRIM, you're alright. But .. haha, those handy made in China ones are not certified by SIRIM and many hams do not have their equipment certified by SIRIM. 2x5=10. |
