I got something to share:

My WD HD, I took it for a ride. I live in Serdang and went to Wangsa Maju to transfer some files to my friend's PC. After going to Wangsa via KTM + LRT then back again, I checked my HD with speedfan and... sad.gif

The performance had drop from 100% to 89% jus in one trip?!

It has been working at 100% since,... erm... year 2000... Ahhh...
I'll never bring my HD for a joyride again...

Possible bad/slow sectors. The "krak" sound could be possibly the head re-setting and re-seeking the bad/slow sector.  sweat.gif

will it affect the other 2 partitions?the quiet 1

That statement sounds not good at all. This can indicate "weak" bits in one or more sectors (ie. causing the ECC recovery). As abovementioned, there could be slow and/or bad sectors in that drive. sweat.gif

but now it's back 2 252(normal)...erm...what's goin on?evrytime i do the in depth anal...the result varies...hoh doh.gif

my 80GB WD got loud tickling sound a few days ago...and it died TODAY!!! jz used it for about >10 months... even my 20GB seagate year 2001 havent die yet!!!:furious:  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif  vmad.gif

anyway to recover information inside??? i got lots of valuables item inside!!!

BIOS still can detect the HDD, but inside windows, its ultra lagging...and only can see the HDD as RAW data...after unplug the HDD,everything runs fine...
Sounds like slow and bad sector problems.. and possibly some corruption. Since the drive is detectable, there may be a good possibility that the data (maybe not all of it) can be recovered.. Try some of the recovery software mentioned here in this thread such Stellar Phoenix, Acronis Reovery Expert, GetDataBack, PC Inspector, SpinRite, R-Studio, etc.. wink.gif

I just plugged in my 2.5" WD HDD into the laptop to check it's SMART status. Everything looks ok but there are 115 Reallocated Sector Count. Speedfan online diagnostic adviced me to backup data and get a new disk. This disk was actually used in a problematic HDD enclosure. Does this mean that my HDD is dying? Maybe because of my lousy cheapskate enclosure, it has caused the reallocation. Can I un-reallocate the sectors by writing zero or formatting?

p/s: Don't use cheapskate enclosures.. They give headaches. sweat.gif

I found this way when i try to fix a pc and then had to say goodbye to the hdd

How long will a HDD with bad sector will last if I've already "fix" it with some software but still using it to do regular stuff such as surfing and light gaming?

Maybe your HD is running at high speeds with little or not air circulation to cool ur disk. Try to get a hd cooler.

If u fix the HD with software, it might last 3days to 3years. But who knows?

Wa... that disk is less than 6 months and it cost me 300++ for that 60GB. To RMA, there is not enough reallocated sector count, I think.

I have had problems with my HDD for 2 times since I start using my PC. Whenever I heard loud clicking sounds, my heart start clicking too tongue.gif Tat's when you know ur HDD is gonna choke to death. Hehehe a year ago my Maxtor 120GB died just 3 weeks b4 warranty. And They return me a 160GB thumbup.gif But so far still working ... but I guess soon it'll leave me again sweat.gif

Warning: Heavy HDD usage kills (esp. BT, install~uninstall games, defrag too often) shakehead.gif
After suffering from "random click sound and hang" while in game for 2+ months. My Maxtor 160GB finally kick the bucket, as it wont boot to Windows anymore. Arghhh .... music, video and data gone cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif
