Sorry,just borrow this space awhile.
Where can we claim our warranty?lifetime waranty from manufacturer?Agent or HQ?

Lifetime warranty? Is there any manufacturer providing lifetime warranty for HDD? If you bought it from a shop, the shop will help you RMA in the 1st year. Other remaining years, you'll have to pay the shop or send the HDD yourself.

Possible. Especially if the HDD is being accessed(read/write), the blackout may cause a scratch on the platter thus damaging the disk. But so far, for me, I have not encountered such problem. sweat.gif

Try sys information software such as SpeedFan, PC Wizard 2006, Everest. They give pretty detailed hardware info and temperature too smile.gif

Did lots of video encoding for 8 hours a day. After one month of hard work my 120GB Maxtor said bye bye and took permanent vacation. Another way to kill your HDD...

Hello forumers, I really got a weird problem which I found it ridiculous. I never experience or heard about cases like these before.

I recently bought a Western Digital 2.5" 60GB HDD. I use the HDD in a cheap external casing mainly for storage porpose with use with my laptop. After a few days, I found that the HDD will seem to stop responding if I touch(i mean gently touch) the casing. Moreover, the data will be badly corrupted if I transfer files while touching the HDD's casing. The data will be 1-5% corrupted if I do not touch it. Then I checked more in detail. The HDD will not be detected if I place it on the floor. Once in a while, a "Delayed Write Failure" message will popup in the taskbar and I need to reconnect the HDD to the computer.

Out of all these problem, I went to the shop and I complained. After all the checking, I was amazed that HDD worked as if it is the best in the world without a problem even on my own laptop(which I am using). Conclusion, the HDD and its enclosure is 100% working.

To make the story short, I found that the HDD works perfectly if I use batteries only on the laptop. Whenever I use the adapter, the HDD gives problem. It is against the myth that batteries may not provide sufficient power to the HDD.

I know my problem is lengthy but give me some suggestions. I never seen such weird problem for all these years of computing. Sorry for being lengthy and thanks for helping...  notworthy.gif

hi there,

got same problem as you. delayed write failed. the dreaded error message keep popping out when i try to write any file to my 2.5" seagate momentus 40GB in housed in 'ayam' brand enclosure.

after 2 weeks i finally managed to sort the problem out. my solution only applies if you're using ich4 or ich5 southbridge, found on boards using intel chipset. i'using thinkpad r51 with intel 852/855 with ICH4M southbridge.

first check the driver of your IDE ATA/ATAPI controller in Device Manager. if the Intel 80xxx controller is using pciide.sys driver, high chance you'll get delayed write fail because of this. you can refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322359/ for details.

you need to use the intelide.sys for your controller to solve the problem

gud luck

Yes! I'm using North Bridge: Intel® 855GME, South Bridge: ICH4-M. There are 3 drivers. atapi.sys, intelide.sys and pciidex.sys. I already have intelide.sys in this case. So, what should I do? Ah, you should have appeared earlier. I have actually solved this problem by buying a new RM 50 enclosure. The cap ayam enclosure is in my desk.

Edit: Oops... the driver that you mentioned is pciide.sys but mine is pciidex.sys

I've the same problem with my 160GB HDD and usually happen when I load up a game. Used to think that my HDD has bad sectors, but scanned with Maxtor's tool it says healthy. Could be caused by something else eg. software, OS, IDE controller, old mobo or maybe other hardware. unsure.gif

Hi all,

I have a problem with my hard disk. One fine day, after i put in a new SDRAM into my PC, it work fine. After i restart, my PC just keeps restarting everytime it shows the Windows bootup screen. So, i troubleshoot it myself and i thought it was the power supply. So, i changed the power supply, and it got worse. It displays a msg "Disk Boot Failure...." or something like that. I've tried using another IDE cable and making sure that the jumpers are set correctly. But then, it still didn't work. I'm really afraid that my hard disk really 'kong'.

What should i do?

You all still considered lucky...

my Maxtor 20gb hdd went on flames right infront of my eyes  shocking.gif

I so shock I fast close the PC luckily only the hdd died  sweat.gif

(that happened 2 years ago)

after that I didnt buy Maxtor anymore always buy WD only  thumbup.gif

the cause of the fire was the solder on the chip overheat because of excessive dust (closer inspection of the decease was the hdd was choking on dust cause i didnt clean the hdd and I open the case too)

so word of encouragement to you all is CLEAN YOUR PC FROM DUST REGULARLY

it happen to me and could happen to you.

cry.gif Same me ,mine died 2 days ago.Maxtor 160gb Diamond 16,now try to recovery but very slow, it can still see the files inside but cannot transfer coz cyclic redundancy error,
sometimes can transfer certain files. Upon checking also found dust choking the poor bugger and my casing temp go up when i on 24/7, and it work so hard on BT sad.gif
