If there a way to identify what panel does a specific monitor used? or to say: whether it's using TN/VA panel? on the spot.

what model is it?

In my office I am using Philips 201E wide monitor. Its cheap but the color is very acceptable for image editing. Impressive tone and almost no banding problem for a TN monitor. Samsung and LG badly outperformed at the same price level rclxms.gif

Very satisfied with it

phillips 202EL2SB/69 . very nice and clean design. it looks like a sleek lcd tv. no mechanical buttons , touch screen kinda switches.
i tried it all movies, gaming, internet office reading typing all very good! happy with it.

i have been looking around for lcd for some time before buying. from what i see..
i believe most lcd no matter what brand today(big names) is just the same. i believe the panels or components inside is made by one or two same company and brands like asus, phillips,LG,samsung all just buy the raw components like the panel and such then design the look of it, buttons, power features, inputs and assemble it up into one piece as a product for them.
seriously theres like no difference in terms of picture quality and performance unless some very unknown brand. any good name brand will do. it seems they all share the same things.
choose the one you like and with a good deal if u wanna buy. thats all smile.gif

Are you both able to compare your Philips TN panel against an IPS or eIPS panel, like the U2311H? How would they compare?

you can get better for the price, something like the LG E2340V/E2360T [these two are still below the U2311H though]

It doesn't have HDMI,but it does support HDCP so if you use a converter you can still connect a HDMI Blu ray player/PS3 to it and play the media without any problems.

Dear phyzoul, using DVI is sufficient for Full HD movies.

if you're talking about downloaded HD movies then it doesn't matter. If you're talking about HD movies on a Blu ray disc then you need to get a LCD that supports HDCP [the port doesn't matter,DVI/HDMI are both fine].The U2311H is one,it'll play DRM protected movies on a Blu Ray disc fine.
